We all know how I feel about texting during dinner, a movie, or a heartfelt convo, but how acceptable is texting during a (very) public event?

Although this pic of Paris and Nicky Hilton at Fashion Week makes me want to sit them down and give them a lecture in appropriate text behavior, I'm trying to be understanding. Like I've said before, I get the addiction, I just don't get the text dependence. Seriously, if I had a front row seat to check out Pamella Roland's beautiful collection, there wouldn't be a single thing that could tear my eyes from the runway. Except for maybe Nigel Barker there on the left . . .

I text a lot, but I know when it's appropriate and when it's not. At Christmas mass I saw a girl sending texts in church! It's insane to me. Plus my little sister tried to get away with sending texts during Christmas dinner and I think my mom was going to throw her phone out the window!
1I love texting. But I know when to text and not to text. I text at work when I'm at my desk, but I certainly wouldn't text during a meeting! I hate seeing people texting at dinner, movies, public events, church, etc. It is rude and it drives me nuts. I used to sit next to a girl in class who would text all through the lecture. So disrespectful! And don't get me started on texting while driving... that's just dangerous.
2i don't see the issue with texting here, i mean sure if they were texting throughout the entire show that'd be bad, but if you need to send a few quick texts its not the end of the world
3Man oh man. I don't get the whole texting ordeal. I don't text on my phone, but I do text on my xbox 360. Still, I type properly, just maybe without capitalizing something. And Soulight is absolutely right. Texting while driving is almost exactly the same as talking on a cell phone while driving. Your brain can only focus on 1 thing at a time. You may be able to multi-task but, You're focusing on just one thing. So if you are driving, most likely people focus on talking or texting, not the driving.
4I guess I just don't have that exciting of a life that requires a constant stream of texts. Or maybe I don't have that many friends?
5I never texted a lot, but had a few habitual texter friends. Best way to rid yourself of it, get rid of the text plan and know that you pay 10 cents (or whatever it is) for every text sent and received.
Habit over.
6I text a whole lot, but only in appropriate situations. If I had front row seats anywhere during Fashion Week, I would do nothing but drool over a collection I could never own, and sit in amazement. Yet, Paris and Nicky get to do these things all the time, and I guess for us more "common" folk, we would act a lot differently.
7I don't text at dinner, and I don't text while driving, although I do talk, but to me it's different, I would never text at church.
But, almost all else is fair game.
I used to be, but not so much anymore.
8did it alot more in high school. msn too
9now alot of it is web based, email, tweets, facebook or call
if i do text it wouldn't be during a conversation, church or a fashion show!!
Yeah... I would be way more interested in chatting up Nigel Barker than texting!
10i love texting.
i get excited when i get texts but if im really busy i get annoyed a bit,
11My question is: what is so important?
12I still believe it should be at appropriate places..maybe they were taking pictures and uploading to some website right away
13I think at loud events, like sports games, then texting is ok. If you were trying to find someone in the crowd, then you wouldn't be able to hear them if you called them. If it's more of a special event, then texting should be avoided.
14i'm incredibly ridiculous when it comes to texting. i average 5,000 texts a month.
15I'm not really "obsessed" but I do text alot. With teenagers it's the easiest way to communicate with them. If they're out, I can send a quick "You're going to be late" message that i know they'll see. If I call, they can just ignore me, but I know that THEIR obsession will make them look at the text. LOL
16these two are probably texting themselves...
17OT: Nigel look haute!
18Here is my deal with it, I can not stand when people do it at movies, concerts, places they pay to be at. And then people like Nikki and Paris who get invited to such amazing shows at Fashion week would rather spend time texting people they can talk to after or even probably during. JEEZ people are so selfish!
19I hate to text but I always find myself doing it. But I always turn off my phone for dinner, movies, etc.
20I often prefer to text because sometimes being on the phone just drains me...although I'm not texting CONSTANTLY....
21Texting at the show is TOTALLY rude. Were I the model, and I noticed, I'd be pissed, and show it. Save it for between shows, or don't take the front row, brats.
A girl in my area actually got arrested for refusing to stop texting in a HS class. It's gotten BAD.
22texting doesn't bother me to the point of annoyance. for the most part, the only time it bugs the crap out of me is when i'm having a conversation with someone and they keep looking at their phone. ugh!
23I only really text one or two people now!
24I am ADDICTED TO TWEETING though. =)
I'm not obsessed & I don't get it either.
During a fashion show, date, even dinner with friends. One text is fine, saying, "I can't talk right this sec."
But more than that, I think it's rude!
I went out on a first date with a guy. He texted a 2, 3 times through dinner.
Then picked his phone up as soon as it vibrated again! I never went out with him again.
It shows no consideration, in my opinion.
25I admit, I have a texting problem!
OMG Soulight!! A girl texting at MASS? Too much!!
I don't even need to look at my phone while I'm texting anymore...
26azh, LOL!
27I don't mind texting, actually.. I don't even like my cellphone much. I sound deluded. O.O
EhMyGawd! LOL. How Can A Person Become Text Obsessed?? I'd Really Like To Know
28I have one friend and all we ever do is text to communicate with each other. I spell everything out though when I do it, I've just learned how to type as fast as possible, I can't, CANNOT do the whole word shortening thing.
29i am not as bad as some friends i have...during dinner, movies, school, it is insane. one of my friends broke up with her boyfriend cuz he told her she had to cut out texting while they hung out....CRAZY!
