Ahahah I do this all the time and I'm not embarrassed to admit it either! I don't like talking to people in public and I really don't talk talking to people I know (I.E. people I went to high school with but never was friends with).

LOL Maybe 4-5 years ago, I was walking on campus, coming dangerously close to some obnoxious sounding women with clipboards, who were soliciting something from innocent passerbyers. Then suddenly my dad called, so I picked up the phone and started chatting. That's when one of the women started yelling at me that I was just pretending! I just ignored her. My sister years later had the same experience with someone at the on-campus Army recruiting table. When challenged, she actually held the phone out and asked if he actually wanted to talk to the caller!

I always walk down the city street with my earbuds in. The petition people tend to leave you alone and if not you can ignore them and it doesn't look (that) rude.

pretty much the only time i do this is when i'm in my car....i can't remember specific instances why i've done it, but i've wanted someone to think i was on the phone so i didn't have to make eye contact or something

omg i do this ALL THE TIME. People tend to follow me around when i am in a store or a restrant.So i put ma phone on vibrate and prtend like im talking.then if someone calls i pretend like im linking them. IDK how many times this saved me from ma followers.
