This year's CES has already begun pouring in the tech treats, and one I was particularly excited for was Palm's. I wasn't let down: Palm announced its newest smartphone, the Palm Pre, with soft lines and a gorgeous OS.
The new phone has a multitouch touch screen, full Internet browser, slides out to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, but the best part — and what actually sets it apart from the iPhones, the BlackBerrys, the Androids — is the wireless charger, the "Touchstone."
No pricing has been revealed yet, but the phone should be available in the early part of this year; if the Pre also comes with competitive pricing (around $200), then look for this to be a worthy rival in the smartphone game.

I couldn't be excited enough that this phone will most likely hit Sprint first.
1Oops, just checked and it's only on Sprint...sooooo...nvm.
2this looks neat, eh?
3It looks neat, although I don't know if it's enough to launch Palm back into the smartphone market. Especially with this tidbit:
When Peter Kafka asked if the Palm Pre's price would be less than the iPhone's $199, Palm CEO Ed Colligan replied, "Why would we do that when we have a significantly better product?"
I don't think they can afford to be cocky at this point, but it looks like the competitive pricing might not be a factor. :/
4looove this phone! and I'm sooo excited that it will be on sprint.
i've been doing research on the pre and it just sounds and looks so sweet and perfect!
5Ugh. I switched from Sprint about two years ago because they're phones were zzzzzzzzzzzzz now they get all the great phones.
6This is a hot looking phone. I just saw a video online of the OS and it looks good.
Even if you're not into Palm, competition is good for the entire smartphone market because it forces everyone (Apple and RIM) to keep innovating.
Now, a complete design snob comment...the edges of the phone look too rounded to me. I think the device would look more sophisticated if the edges were a bit less rounded. Overall though, nice job Palm.
7If it will let me have multiple web pages open at once and let me install Flash player I'm sold. That's my biggest gripe about my Centro.
8why the pre? it just sounds unfinished to me but it looks pretty nice. hopefully they won't do those stupid product placement commercials that i'm sick of seeing for the instinct.
