They always manage to save the best for last — don't they? Phil Schiller just announced the new MacBook Pro, which is the world's thinnest 17-inch notebook, measuring in at .98-inches thick, and weighing only 6.6 pounds. On the side of the laptop, you'll find a Mini Display port, a Firewire 800, digital audio in/out ports, three USB ports, Expresscard, and the standard Ethernet and Magsafe. An optional add-on? You can pay an extra $50 for an antiglare screen if you really want to pimp it out.

Other great features include the glass trackpad, which includes four-finger gestures functionality and multibutton support. It even comes with the longest-lasting battery ever, which is said to last up to eight hours on a single charge. The sad part? It's built-in, so you're stuck with it. And for eco-chic peeps, it's EPEAT Gold, and arsenic, BFR, mercury, PVC free, and comes with 34 percent less packaging that's highly recyclable. The new MacBook Pro's will start shipping late January and will cost $2,799.

Too bad I just bought one last spring.
1Seriously, is this all you got for me? Come on! Where's the beefier mac mini?
2i do like how this computer is "greener" than other laptops, however, i would much rather stick to my 11" sony vaio. i love how convenient my laptop is when i am carrying it around to class. it weighs not more than 2 pounds and i think a 17" is a little too big and bulky for me
3not to mention.. an internal battery: not good. what happens when the battery fails overtime? are you going to have to ship it to mac and pay for them to open up your computer to replace it? no thanks. i'll stick to my sony with an external battery so replacing it is a piece of cake and costs nothing, because sony gives its vaio customers a free battery!
4I know the feeling, glam sugar! Now I always wait for the latest and greatest to come out before you make your purchace. Especially with Apple. I learned that the hard way when I bought my first computer years ago, only to have my heart broken when a newer system was released 2 months later.
5Why are they getting smaller? Soon they'll want to implant them in our heads! Ahhhh!!
6awesome in some ways and not so awesome in others. the main drawback for me is the fact that the battery is built in. that could cause major problems later on. but the battery life is a very big plus. however i'm just fine with my new 13 inch macbook. 17 inches is way to big for me to carry around everywhere.
7I'm still freaking about the price tag. $2,700?!
Does this mean there won't be any more 15-in. MacBook Pros? Or is this 17-in just a special edition [haha call it "MacPro SE"!]on the MacBook Pro line?
I want a new Mac [I've got a 12" PowerBook G4, it's almost 4 years old, but still works like the day I bought it]...but I'll just wait until I go off to school so I can get the educational discount. :/
8Im surprised they didnt release another opticaless drive catastrophe.
9Well, I still couldn't afford it, so I'll stay happy with my 15" MacBook Pro that I got in November.
