Martha Stewart may be one of my idols, but a health tip she included in the January issue of her namesake magazine, Martha Stewart Living, has me disagreeing with her pretty profusely.
Here's what she says:
"Alongside every one of my computers, I have a pitcher of mineral water infused with lemon, lime, orange, or cucumber and mint. I find that I drink more if the pitcher is there as a reminder and I can freely pour a glass, rather than opening bottle after bottle of water during the day."
Martha, really, open pitchers of water right alongside your computers? Sure, you should drink plenty of water, but putting a large, open vessel of liquid right next to your computer is just inviting damage (don't those pitchers look foreboding rather than refreshing?). Careful as you may be, it only takes a little nudge to fry a keyboard or worse, a motherboard.
Unless you can afford to replace expensive tech easily, do as I do, and drink lots of water — just put a lid on it.

I'm pretty sure Martha could buy a computer company with all the money she stole and got away with....
1just use common sense and don't knock it over. It's not going to spill if you just pay attention.
2lol the things that we choose to stress over. we have to remember that she's more about aesthetics than practicality sometimes, so that's just how i'm taking that one.
3I was always really careful about my coffee but one day my daughter accidentally knocked a big old cup (I mean BIG) right over into my 1 month old brand spanking new MacBook Pro laptop. Turns out cream and sugar in your coffee is the worst kind of spill because the sugar in it makes your laptop fry even more. We turned it over and I was shocked at home much coffee came out (atleast 2 cups worth). Then one of us held it upside down and the other used a hairdryer to dry it (aimed at the keyboard). After that we let it sit unpowered to dry for 3 days. On the 4th day we powered it up and lo and behold...it worked!
4Is this really any different than the big old coffee mug or can of soda a lot of us keep near us while we work/surf? Just be careful...
5I have lost two macbooks from people with liquids around them. I would not put a pitcher near my workspace. Perhaps keep a SIGG or Kleen Kanteen bottle nearby with H20.
6This is Martha we are talking about. She would NEVER spill anything...
7actually i have to deviate from the talk about liquids near the computer and add that i'm the same way. it keeps me a lot healthier, and having water always available really makes me drink more. I'm not sure why, but always have water there does. When i didn't have a giant water bottle i used to just drink one small one, but when i got the larger ones i noticed i was drinking the proportionally same amount of water, but it was more since the bottle was bigger. Does anyone know why this happens?
and back to water around comps. I have a giant water bottle. with a lid. for that exact paranoia.
8Haha, Martha is so silly sometimes. Perhaps she means that next to all of her computers, she has a server waiting to pour her water.
9Not to mention water that simply sits out tastes funky after awhile.
10hmm, not the smartest cookie now are we Martha?
11hahaha infused waters in pitchers by her computer hahaha
