Usually when I do a laptop bag review, it's for a bag I've only gotten to carry around for a few days, so this is something different, but probably more useful and realistic — this is a review for my own laptop bag that I bought and paid for myself and have been carrying for the last few months.
I bought the Pinder Thin Laptop Bag for $40 in March (on sale from its usual $58) and they threw in the Vinnie Shoulder Strap for free.
The Thin comes in custom sizes depending on your computer, so I got the one that would fit my MacBook Pro perfectly. Even though the bag's description suggests the pockets for peripherals, when I used the bag, I left them empty. Which is why it was a surprise that the fabric of my bag started ripping just a few months after use.

I've used my Pinder laptop bag a few times a week in the nine months that I've had it, but I would have assumed that the ballistic nylon exterior fabric would have been able to support the shoulder strap's pull (not to mention that the bag is intended for the exact computer I used in it). A few months ago, I noticed the first tears on the outside, which was bad enough because the company touts its "super tough, water repellent, abrasion resistant, ballistic nylon exterior and trim". Yet it was tearing and not only did it look awful, but I worried it would only get worse. Which it did.
Last week, the fabric tore clear up and out — meaning that it pulled the nylon of the pocket out, exposing the thin foam that's supposed to keep my PC safe, and also exposing the computer itself!
I wrote the company this week and included the photos you see here, explaining my predicament. I probably won't be buying another bag from Pinder, considering that my average use of it was hardly as hard-core as its description would have you think it could handle.
I hope to get a refund so I can invest my money in a bag that won't be destroyed in under a year; and maybe I'll have to walk my own talk about making an investment in something that's excellent quality that will last, and more importantly, protect my precious cargo.

I had a Pinder thin and was happy with it for over a year, but when I 'upgraded' to the larger bag (to hold more accessories, documents, etc), it ripped within two months. I used it daily on my commute (via CAR) and for one intense conference (SxSW). I was disappointed that it wasn't more sturdy, especially considering their ad copy.
Now I'm using a hand-made designer leather bag that I feel like I had to mortgage my left arm for, but love. I've also happily used a Microsoft Ladies' bag, and even a canvas tote I got from the Montreal Games booth at GDC with a sleeve in from M.Avery designs.
The Pinder bag has been by far the most disappointing.
1Wow, that really sucks. Especially since you don't use the same bag daily. I have had really good luck with bags, unfortunately they are kind of ugly ones
I'm on my second Brenthaven. The last one would still be in use but I just got so sick of it's ugly
manly ways. I ended up with their "ladies" tote, it doesn't have the same kind of padding that I like in the Brenthavens but it is a tiny bit better looking. I also have a Metro sleeve in
brown with baby blue lining, I love this bag but it isn't big enough to carry my tech stuff too. I mostly use that when I travel.
2a few months and it died already?

5I have a pinder bag too and it broke so easily! I called to asked for an exchange and never was able to get anyone! So after several emails, two months later I told them I was going to call the chamber of commerce and I finally got someone to reply. Pinder HAS THE WORST Customer Support department ever! So after I got a reply to my email, three months later I had sent them my bag for repair, they sent me a new one... except the new one broke after a month!!!!
6I'm now asking them for a refund and they don't want to give the a refund! They want to give me a new bag!!!!.... I'm so mad!!!
I've been reading all your comments and I have to say there is something seriously wrong with you people
1. I bought a pinder 3 years ago and it's still in great shape
2. I recomended the site 10 of my friends
3. 2 out of 10 had a problem and it was replaced in a week
Now I don't know what agenda the person that posted this ridiculous blog. Maybe he or she was in a bad mood and cut open the bag.
people who are reading this I just have to say Pinder Bags makes a find inexpensive product and I'm proud to own it
7I love my Pinder bag. I think this article is a perfect illustration that one persons experience is excessively loud but the thousands of other people that have used the Pinder bag have had great experiences. It has outstanding quality and better than anything you can get at a store. In fact, I experienced the issue that you are describing and the company replaced it under their warranty program. The new design uses ballistic nylon throughout and not just in the pocket so the issue the author described is a non-issue. I strongly recommend Pinder bags to anyone as they do stand behind their warranty. I think the author's influence is disproportionate to the truth about the outstanding quality that I and many others have received.
