And your parents said all that video game playing would get you nowhere! If you really take your gaming seriously, you could take it to college — New York University is going to start offering degrees in video game design, research, and development.
Higher education has never seemed more appealing; gaming doesn't just have to be something you do in between classes.
Next Fall, NYU's course load will increase to add classes like The History of Donkey Kong and Feminist Theory: Princess Peach's Resistance. Just kidding about those course titles, but a girl can dream.
In the meantime, would you major in video games?
I'd totally minor in this.

They have been offering video games degrees in the UK for a long time. The video games market here is VERY competitive. I have a friend doing video games design and he is currently on placement with a studio in the UK - very difficult to get also!
Video games have a LOT of money ploughed into them.
I would never major in video games, I just don't see it as a stable career option. I know a lecturer who teaches computer games programming and he said the market is too all over the place to guarantee work for a video games programmer.
