On this week's How I Met Your Mother, two things were shown that frightened me: Strange, naked men and an iPhone being dropped in a toilet. Thank god it was just Hollywood make-believe.
What's also funny about the HIMYM incident is that even though a vengeful woman deliberately drops Barney's phone in the loo, I have had far too many friends to count, accidentally drop their phones into the toilet. Not to mention the rice story and the nasty outhouse diving story. No one seems to have as many problems with sinks, bathtubs, or swimming pools as much as the swirling water of the porcelain throne.
Tell me — have you ever dropped your phone in the toilet? Did you fish it out?

yes... and i did it on purpose...
1I haven't, but a friend did! I almost had it happen though... it was in my back pocket, and when I went to sit down it fell out onto the floor - thankfully!
2I have. It was traumatizing. I was at the mall WC. I don't recall why I dropped it but I sure remember my hand grabbing it from the dirty water like in lightning speed.
3I haven't but my little sister did two weeks after getting a new phone. It was so funny.
4I haven't, but my sister just did the other day and a friend did a few weeks ago. My sister was using the bathroom at a party and it was in her back pocket and fell in! She had to dig it out, lol! Her phone wouldn't turn on, but my friend's was ok.
I realized just how dependent we are on cell phones cuz my sister has no house phone. Luckily, her roomie's # was on my cell from when I let her use it when she was in the hospital, so I called her to talk to my sister.
I don't know what I would do if I dropped it in a public toilet! I can't imagine going after it!
5I dropped my new razor phone in the toilet the first day I got it, and there was no TP in the stall either. I had two broken feet, so I was on crutches. (drippy hands have to touch crutches) Sometimes when you drop something worth $400 into the toilet, you just have to go after it. It works now, I just had to dry it out for a few days!
6I've never dropped my phone in the toilet. However, my friend Nathan, did have to describe the hilarity of explaining to the guys in the phone store that he broke his phone by dropping it into a bowl of black beans. This doesn't seem too terribly funny until you take into consideration that he's Mexican lol.
7No, but I've dropped it in the tub.
8oh, and then the next week when the phone finally worked again, i spilled a container of coffee cream into my purse and disabled the phone again for a day. But, it keeps on truckin. Good little phone!
9I never have, but my dad dropped his Razr in the toilet a couple of days ago. I found it pretty amusing because I don't understand how a person can do that.
10I had a friend who dropped her cell phone in the toliet. She went after it. Hilarious!
11Thankfully, not yet. If I ever dropped my beloved iPhone in any type of water I'd just sit down & cry. I use it as my home phone as well..so, I'd definitely be out of a lifeline. :T
12Not in the toilet, but my iPhone fell into the bathtub tuesday night when I was helping my daughter with her bath. I had it in my PJ pocket, bent over the tub forgetting it was there, and PLOP! I cried... I drained it as much as I could, set it upright, and in the morning it worked fine! Whew!
13Yes I have. It was in my pocket, and when I sat down it fell out!
Oh well, at least it was a good excuse to get a new phone!
14I accidently left my blackberry in my jeans pocket and put it in the washer, works fine.
15I haven't but I know people who have.
16I dropped my iPhone into my toilet.. (thankfully before I used it.)
It literally was in there for a second and a half before I reflexively pulled it out.
I dried it out with my blow dryer for about 30 minutes, after some tweaking out with the power button it eventually went back to normal.
hands down one of the scariest moments ever!
17My best friend has. I laughed and laughed, until I almost did it one drunken night. Now I'm mildly paranoid about it.
18TWICE. Both times wasted, it was in my back pocket (you know, so I didn't have to carry a purse around the bar. SMART) and fell in the potty when I stood. I screamed. Both times.
19Yes, which is why you never EVER should put a phone in your back pants pocket. When have to rush to pee you sometimes forget. Although whats really funny is when it happened it made a loud "plop" noise when it hit the water and the girl in the stall next door yells out "Ewwww...thats disgusting!"
I tried to explain but I just laughed.
20Worse than a toilet, I dropped my phone into Lake Ontario, right over a bridge. I had forgotten it was in my back pocket, and I had decided to be smart and sit on the ledge of the bridge. It was a brand new LG Shine!
21yes
i´ve also forgotten my phone in my pocket and its gone into the washing machine
twice, its fallen from a few stories high and my friend once dropped hers into a bathroom at this club thing and there were lots of people waiting outside
22Nope I haven't. Drop it on the ground more times than I would have liked though XD
23She dropped his iPhone in the toilet!
24KrisSugar, how did you use crutches with 2 broken feet?
25I never have, but my brother dropped his in mine last New Year's Eve just as he went to flush. It fell out of his hoodie and actually went down and got stuck in the pipe. It was absolutely horrible but so funny.
26I almost did, once. I somehow managed to grab it *before* it fell in. I'm pretty sure I have never moved that quickly before.
27Yep. Done it.
28no, but I'm paranoid. it's happened to so many people. what if I'm next?? lol... I'm just really careful.
29i'm very careful around the toilet.
BECAUSE i've had THAT happen to my mom, friends (about 3-5 of them), and a couple of my cousins. for reals. and in public toilets.
but i've had a couple of close calls...
30It has never happened to me before. I'm pretty careful, my phone hardly ever drops, as a matter of fact,my man say i'm borderline-OCD! However,i honestly don't know what i'd do,especially if it's not my toilet!
31I did it once at school. I had it in my jacket pocket and I sat down and I didn't even notice it went in. There was a 'plop' but I was on the toilet, so I thought it was something else. I don't look at the toilet contents when I'm flushing so I still didn't know at that point. It wasn't till I left the bathroom and was heading towards the bus stop when I put my hand in my pocket to check the time from my phone. To my shock and horror, when I couldnt feel my phone in my pocket, I suddenly realized what that little 'plop' was. I ran back and shoved my hand down the toilet, but it was long gone. I was so sad! lol
32oh, and I told the phone company it was stolen so I got 50% off on the new phone
exact same kind.
33I have never dropped a phone. I have had three phones, an old Nokia, a razr, and now an iPhone. If I ever dropped the iPhone I would cry lol. I know there are ways to fix it if it happens, but still lol.
34mine fell out of my pocket into the toilet at Target and I flushed. While it was flushing I saw it and started freaking out. When I told the security guard he asked if it was a joke. Like seriously?? HAHA I flushed my phone! GOT YA! stupid guy
35yes the week after i got it. at least it was clean, as clean as a toilet bowl can be...
36i dropped it in the little soda carts in NYC... idk how it slipped but it was working fine, but i decided to return it to tmobile for a new phone and they charged me $100 for water damage!! argh lol
37Never dropped my cell phone or iPod, but I have dropped my work pager in the toilet.
38No, but I have dropped my cell phone into a pool before. That was lame.
39nope, but my friend did at a party. it was really funny at the time.
40yes but thank gawd it was a phone that I had found
41I dropped my phone into the toilet AS IT WAS FLUSHING.. it was just.. gone. I almost cried, but I was laughing too hard.
42I've nearly done that, but luckily it fell onto the seat, and then onto the floor after I stood up. Now, I'm very paranoid about it.
