I remain somewhat impressed by Pottery Barn's tech accessories, because even when they're overpriced, they usually hit the right style mark.
The Simple Dock in particular, is no exception; not only is it pretty nice looking (though my thoughts are still in conflict over whether I like the faux leather), but the size is great for a smaller place or desk. Which brings me to my next point; iPod docks these days keep showing up with so many bells and whistles and extras, and sometimes you — or a person you might want to give it to you — don't need all that.
But still, Pottery Barn did it again with their disappointing pricing: $80 for this? It was appealing to me until I got to that point. It'll inevitably go on sale, but I still don't understand why they price such simple (but not altogether unique) products so high.

I do like that, but you are right, $80 is waaayyy too much for that!
1I'm not sure if that simple of a dock would do for me. Right now, I have a Bose, which cost around 400 dollars, so I think I'm riding a little spoiled at the moment. Haha.
2I fail to understand why a dock is such a must have item. I just plug into my "headphone out" on my receiver and play music on audiophile quality equipment. Of course, mp3s aren't the best quality either, but they are convenient and easy to carry around. And no, I don't buy the Bose hype either.
Docks are basically a really crappy amp/speaker combo with some illusion of added ease. Save your $80+ unless you need them for your cubical or studio apartment and you do not care about sound quality.
3I don't see a need for a dock. I have the separate iPhone dock that I never ever use on my desk.
