As I'm writing this, my boyfriend is playing Gears of War 2 with a buddy via online co-op play. He is also wearing an Xbox Headset so that they can communicate and strategize their mission.
So to say that my boyfriend loves GOW2 is a bit of an understatement. Besides the fact that there was a permanent butt imprint in our last couch when the first installment of the series hit the shelves, it seems that in some weird way the game re-establishes a sense of manliness that is lost from days of working in customer service, IT support, or just bending to the wants and needs of others. It brings an aura of brotherhood as you battle the "Locusts" together, lending a hand with your chainsaw to amputate the enemy that chokes your brother-in-arms. It's a phenomenon I'll never be able to explain.
I can't say that I've had much time to play Gears of War 2 myself — you know, since there are always at least four guys on my couch taking turns high-fiving each other for destroying the "horde" — but I can give you some observations I've made over the past few days. To find out what they are, just read more.
- There's much more story involved in this game than in the first Gears installment.
- Online co-op play is the preferred way to "Gear Up."
- You can literally play for hours and not get bored.
- Graphics are good, and blowing things up is awesome.
- The Locusts' voices are pretty creepy.
- This would be the ultimate Christmas gift for a guy in need of some male bonding.
- You'll have plenty of time to do your nails/shop/workout/play your DS without your BF bothering you about it.
I don't know if any of these insights will help you decide whether or not to actually purchase Gears of War 2 for yourself, but hey, if I'm going by my boyfriend's enthusiasm, it's like the greatest game ever.
Gears of War 2 is available now for $60 on your Xbox 360.

my brother says it's epic...I say he's a looser
1my husband all weekend has been wrestling with whether or not he should buy it or wait until Christmas. He's really leaning toward buying it now.
2Allow me to add some insight as a female gamer who has played through GoW2 (and one before it), that YES, Its very very good.
My BF and I played it Co-Op as well, and it was a LOT of fun. Yay for teamwork!
3I don't get the game, but my husband is obsessed with it right now.
4I totally understand where he's coming from being obsessed with the game, but I personally feel that it's not the best habit to have. No game should detract you so much from your life that you ignore your GF. Sadly it's times like these that give guys who play video games a bad rap.
5Kick your boyfriend off and get some gametime!!! You can always go, "Honey, I'd really love to spend some time with you blowing up mofos. How about we order a pizza and play GoW2 together tonight?" Works for me every time.
Now if I could only get him to share my love for endless puzzle games...
6We have the two Xbox's so we can play system link Co-Op. Having trouble getting back into GoW as the controller config is so different than the Rainbow six games. We loved the first one as that was really one of the first system link Co-Op games that let you play in story mode. We already have a date to play tonight after the baby goes to bed.
Also currently play CoD World at War system link Co-Op on Xbox and Little Big Planet on PS3. Too many games, too little time.
7My brother is crazy about the game! I think I'm probably going to try it out this weekend.
8my boyfriend and i got it yesterday. we're looovin it. although its still somewhat new so online play still takes a while so we're still addicted to halo 3.
9this game looks divine.. i can't wait to play this and forget about the importance of sunlight and fresh air. XD
10My BF has been playing all day long since he bought it! he says it is really addicitve!
11First Gears game is in my top three.. this one's GORGEOUS! To say it has "good graphics" is an awfully large understatement. It kind of annoys me, this review I mean. If you haven't played it, don't review it. I wish this site had a bit more focus on games.. in this month and December we have Left 4 Dead, Tomb Raider, Prince of Persia, and we HAD Mirror's Edge, Resistance 2, CoD: World at War, the WoW expansion.. AMPLE fodder. Sorry.. haha, I'm a bit intense when it comes to Gears. I work at EB Games and for the launch the employees were given special COG tags, well I took two, and made earrings with them, so I was all decked out in COG earrings, a COG tag necklace, Gears t-shirt, and a Gears lanyard. Also, I've claimed our store's cardboard display.. haha. It's all really quite sad.
12My husband and his friends are addicted to this game... its crazy but it keeps him busy
13My boyfriend and I bought the game last week and literally spent 2 days glued to the couch playing it. It felt like my brain was turning to mush, but it was so much fun!
14My boyfriend and I love to play this co-op. It is so much fun!
15I love it!
16i loVe it n im a girl!lol
