It's hard to believe that the product that put Apple back on the map just a few years ago, the iPod, only accounted for 14 percent of Apple's sales revenue this year. Of course, Apple is doing great, thanks to strong sales of the iPhone and computers, it's no longer just dependent on the growth of the iPod.

No doubt Apple's success today is indebted to the iPod, which after its seventh birthday just may still be my favorite Apple product. I definitely have to say that the iPod got me back into Apple, after dabbling in PCs for years, and I know many people whose love for Apple started with an introduction by the iPod. What about you?

I'm a PC =]
1My mom went to grad school when I was a kid and so my dad bought us an Apple computer so she could write her thesis on it. We've used Apple ever since--we have four Apple computers (three laptops, one desktop) as well as multiple iPods (at least 10 among 4 people).
2I love my iPods but I'm a PC!
3Well a little bit. When I was very young, the first computer that my parents bought (or the first one i can remeber) was the apple. Then when we moved to my home when i was seven we got rid of the apple and we got a gateway. Then i believe seventh grade i got my first ipod (ipod mini in blue). Then i got an ipod nano, and now i have the ipod video. When i went to go get a computer for college (this year) i got my macbook, and I couldnt be happier!!!!
4Love my iPod, but I am a PC girl.
5Nope, I went with a MacBook (circa 2003) when I had to get my laptop for college.
At the time Apple didn't have any stores (gasp) and I ordered it online.
I switched to desktop (Dell..Gross) when I got my first apartment, and then quickly switched back to a 13" MacBook when the new ones came out.
I'm a Mac girl, through and through. I will never again buy a PC.
6I like my pc but I'd like it better if they were to find a better operating system. But I love my Ipod Itouch!!!!!!!!
7It wasn't an iPod, but downloading iTunes that got me into Macs. I "hated" them until about 2 years ago, when I begrugingly switched from using WinAmp (I KNOW) to iTunes. I was an instant convert. Non-bulky, non-crashing, easy-to-use software? *gasp*
8I used PC for a time after I got my first iPod. When my PC started crashing, my boyfriend convinced me to get a MacBook...I thought, why not? Apple presents such quality in something as small as an iPod...imagine what their laptops are like!!!...I was so right. I'm never looking back.
9My first Apple product was an iPod. A few months later, I got the MacBook, then the iMac and now the iPhone 3G. So, yes, I'm a Mac convert thanks to the iPod (and iTunes).
10I love my iPhone but I am a PC
11Aw hell no!!! I was playing Oregon Trail on an Apple II way back in the day. I'm OG Apple.
God I bet most of you are so young you don't even get the OG reference... sigh.
12Nope. In fact, it pushed me further away.
13I got my ipod, loved it. It broke, took it back to the store, they replaced it no questions asked. That made me an Apple person.
Continually have had great customer service and great products. The iPhone is amazing.
14always been one! the ipod just makes me more of one!
15No, I already love Macs before the iPod.
16Never had an iPod or any other apple products.
I'm a PC too!
17Evryone in my house used to have apples i was the only one qith a pc laptop then i met the ipod, and then the macbook, then the iphone. All is better when kept within the family.
18I had apples growing up and then back on '01 my system crashed when I pressed save on a 10 page paper I was writing... I was on page 9.... It made me switch to a pc for a few years. After I got my ipod I started looking at Mac's again and I finally got a macbook earlier this year. I love the new systems and they are so much easier to back up then the old systems. I love my macbook so much I actually got rid of my desktop HP because I wasn't using it anymore.
19I think I'm the exception. I always thought iPods were the ultimate in worthless, status symbol gadgets, but my first iBook opened my eyes to the wonders of Apple. I bought it during the student promotion so I got an iPod for free, and now I live in a home with an iBook, a MacBook, an iMac, a Time Capsule, three iPods and two iPhones.
To be honest, I can't think of anything (aside from my family) that I'm as loyal to as the Apple Brand.
20The first computer I ever used (when I was around 5) was a Linux (computer geek uncle!) and I have loved the Unix OS ever since, used a PC for a few years, never again!
21No, not an apple lover. I love my ipod though!!! I mean, I'd love a macbook since I dabble in graphic design but I'm fine with my pc for now.
22Used Apple since 1986 (or thereabouts) when my Dad first brought home a machine from work.
A friend of mine, whose family have also been a Mac family since the early nineties, commented that iPods made Apple less cool, since it made it less special as everybody suddenly had it. Whether he's right or wrong is another matter.
23I switched to Mac's well before the iPod came out, and never looked back. Now we have three laptops, three iPods, and an iPhone (soon to get another iPhone for DH) and love them all!
24The 12" Powerbook got me into Apple. I was so nervous using it initially and then it was like... WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE? Then I got a 12" Powerbook given to me (yey) and then an iPod shuffle and then my iPhone! I bought a MacBook in April 2007 too and have never looked back.
25It was actually the iPhone that got me into apple. I never bought a ipod, I had a sansa MP3 player that took SD cards.
I have to admit, if my experience with the iphone wasnt so darn fantastic, I would have never thought I would have purchased an iMac - the boyfriend and I are even looking into an Apple TV!
Although, the boyfriend was convinced about the imac when he found out that bootcamp allows you to run windows and osx on the same box!
26No I was Apple way before iPods. I actually owned the model in the picture. It is still working 7 years later I gave it to the ex husband.
EvilDorkGirl- I'm OG as well, grew up in the LBC
27I am a Mac girl through and through!!! My family had a couple different Macs while I was growing up.. and then I got my own blueberry iMac in highschool.. and then purple iMac with a firewire port when I got my iPod... then I got an iBook for college... and now I cannot live without my iPhone and Macbook Pro. My 3rd gen iPod and iBook are still going strong.
28i have a PC but if I could (afford it) I would have a Mac, I just think they're so much better!
29I became an Apple convert back in 2004 when I bought the ipod mini. But, that was the only thing I converted to then. Over time I upgrade to the video ipod and then last year finally HAD TO HAVE the macbook. Then the iphone then the 3g iphone. I will never go back.
30my dad bought our first pc when I was 10. I've never had an ipod but I'm getting an itouch soon. I really like the macbooks but I would rather a dell laptop... they come in pink!
plus, apple is just too overpriced.
31It was mainly my Macbook that got me into Apple more... not so much the iPod =]
32It wasn't the iPod, it was powerbooks, then the ibooks.
33iPod/PC Girl.
34Nope, always been a apple girl. We got our first computer all the way back in 1993, I feel so old. Which was kept for 10 years until it was replaced with a mac mini. I'm on my third laptop (blue ibook, a white ibook, and a Macbook.) And I'm on my third ipod (classic, nano, and a touch.) Apple get me into the iPod, had another mp3 player first.
35apple was the first computer company i ever interacted with so that's why it's my fav. but it's too expensive for my personal gain so i own an ipod and an iphone but no mac computer.
36I used to be a pc girl. We had those huge clunky macs in school and the macs of the 90's couldn't compete with Windows 98 and frankly weren't competitive until OSX. Anyways I got my first ipod as a graduation present and then got my first macbook (the black one
) in
college (our school has special student laptop loans for the mini apple store on campus). I haven't looked back. I'm on my second macbook. I bought it during the back to school special so I
got a free ipod touch. As a downloader nothing beats having a spyware and virus free computer, plus you can't beat the look. Windows notebooks just look clunky to me now.
In a few more years when the macbook is as thin as the macbook air, you'll know I'll be replacing this one.
37the iPod definitely introduced me to apple! i got a video iPod and then when i started college i got a macbook and since then i've gotten three more ipods (shuffles for myself and my mom, nano, etc) and recently i got the iPhone 3G and i'm in love with apple! i will never go back to PCs ever again.. i'm just waiting for the family desktop to crash so that we can get an iMac
38I had an iPod for a while, but I switched to Mac from PC my freshman year in college because I'm going to school for music, and a part of the program involves audio editing (can't do that easily or well on a PC). I'm sooooo glad I switched, and you couldn't pay me to go back.
39PC girl here.
40actually my first ipod actually turned me OFF of apple. horrible sound quality and buggy nonsense!
41Well, my dad was the original Apple fan, so we've had Macs since I could use a computer and although I've used a few PCs, nothing can compete with the OS, the interface, the safety, and that fact that it's so easy to use! I used to have this no-frills MP3 player but when the iPod mini came out, I got one and never looked back!
42Oh, and now at home, we have two iMacs, two MacBooks, one MacBook Pro, one MacBook Air, a fourth generation iPod Nano, a first generation iPod Classic(160), a first generation iPod and an Apple TV nano shared between me and my parents...
haha.. apple stickers!
43I'm an apple girl.
Forever.
PCs are illogical and just confuse me.
44I was a PC until I started working at an ad agency, who uses Macs. Now I love Macs and will probably never go back to a PC
45I got an iPod a few months before I got my first mac, a blue iBook, and I wasn't all that impressed with it. I was a dancer, and music has always been my thing, so having something that could hold all my CD's at once, and I could dance around with it attached to my body was cool, but it didn't blow my mind.
BUT, once I started using the iBook I was hooked. I convinced Dad to get a mini, then I upgraded to a white MacBook, and I'm currently lusting over the new MacBook Pro's (I want that Graphics Card!).
If I couldn't use a Mac, I wouldn't use anything at all. Seriously. PCs are ridiculously slow, and annoying.
46i was an apple fan from the wayyyyyyy beginning of time. i 've always loved apple/mac
47More like my re-introduction to Apple. I used Apples through high school. My first year in college (1997) I had an Apple computer and people made fun of it all the time. Apple was old technology and PCs were the newer, cooler thing at the time. My, how Apple has changed.
48I've been apple back when they just called themselves Macintosh and nothing more lol with the little colored apple circa 1994 lol....
