In case you missed it, Oprah announced that Amazon's Kindle was her new faaaaaavorite gadget on her show on Friday. Now, when Oprah says something is her favorite, people don't just acknowledge it — they respond with consumer glee, often selling out that product (I bitterly recall not being able to get sold-out things like the Clarisonic or Uggs because of their placement on Oprah's favorite things show).

So I'm really curious to see what Oprah's fans make of her endorsement of the Kindle, whose popularity has been moderate but not mind-blowing; will the exalted O's influence introduce a new audience to the eBook reader? Is Oprah a tech trendsetter, in addition to her grand reach? That $50 off deal certainly can't hurt.
Do tell: Does Oprah's love for the Kindle make you want it?

right now i can't afford to get a kindle (broke college student) but hearing good things from oprah (and geeksugar
) make me want to look into getting one.
1I don't know why people follow Oprah's word for everything like she is God. She's just a regular person who happens to have a lot of money. :\
2No, it makes me want to avoid it more because her endorsement makes me feel like you have to be money to have it.
I'll stick with getting my news on a computer and my books at the public library.
3She certainly didn't influence my book-reading, and she won't influence which gadgets to get either.
4I have a Kindle and I absolutely love it!! Its great for the constant traveler.
5If I want something it's because it's something I'm interested in. Not because Oprah endorses it. I don't know whey everyone takes her word as law.
6i love my real books...but if i traveled a lot, this would be useful.
7NO! sure it might be great and all, but there are downsides to having it, no thanks.
8She doesn't give me the urge to buy things. But I do listen to her thoughts on things. I been looking at a kindle for a while, hopping the rumors of being able to get certain college text books on them. If that becomes a reality I will be all over it. I look forward to carrying that text books that only need to read in a compact devices.
9I had never even heard of it until the last GeekSugar post about it, when you predicted that the Kindle would be her fave gadget. But after that I looked it up, and it's awesome, so I guess in a way, yes! Oprah-through GeekSugar ;)-turned me on to the Kindle!
10I definitely don't want things more just because Oprah endorses it. Sometimes things get in limited stock or more expensive when they get celebrity endorsements...
I never really wanted a Kindle anyway. I'd rather get a Sony Reader, if I was going to get rid of all my books and go digital-only. It's sleeker and looks easier to handle than the Kindle, IMO.
11Actually, it totally made me want one! Although, not because it was Oprah who loves it (which when i saw the preview for her show and she said she was unveiling her new fave. gadget i knew it would be the kindle!).
12But, I've always been too busy to really sit down and research the pros and cons of a kindle. I was kind of against one because I stare at a computer all day at work and school-and didn't want to stare at another machine to read, but now I think its amazing. In the future I hope it becomes standards at universities and especially law schools. Not only are books so expensive, but I literally kill my back everyday lugging around 500 page books! This would be amazing!
I love my books. Sorry Kindle...
13No because she endorses everything at one point or another. It used to be fun and cool, but now she's endorsed everything from Louboutins to Juicy Couture to books to political figures to... well, you name it. LOVE Dr. Oz, though!!!
14I can't help but feel compelled to NOT want something because ophra endorses it /:
15I really would like a "library kindle" because I really don't buy that many books, but I read a ton from the library and it's a lot to keep track of physically.
16Her opinions don't sway me one bit. Look what happened to her endorsement of Airborne? If she tells her most loyal fans to jump off a bridge, they probably would.
17I don't watch Oprah.. I don't really read books that much (other than studybooks) . No Kindle here, thank you.
18I have stanza for the iPhone and so I don't really care much for the kindle. Do they still make those?
19wouldn't it hurt your eyes?
20i think it would hurt your eyes and you'd get a weird strain from it. and while i believe she thinks the kindle is cool, i do not believe she would actually use it unless someone filled it for her and she was travelling. she seems like an actual book type of person to me. though the endorsement makes sense.
21I wanted a Kindle before this, and to be honest, her endorsement makes me want it a little less...
22Love Oprah, but love reading books the old fashion way even more. Besides, I'm on a budget...
23I couldn't care less what Oprah thinks.............about anything.
24I badly wanted a Kindle pre oprah and want one even more after watching her episode. It isn't her endorsement, but she showed me it could do more than I even thought. Plus I've heard the Clarisonic is amazing from friends - two additions to my X-mas list!
25I've wanted a Kindle for sometime and have been saving for one. My only concern, since she endorsed it, is that when I save up for it, I won't be able to get one.
26One of the main features of the Kindle--and I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned on Oprah--is that it uses this weird paper-like display. It's nothing at all like a computer screen or an iPhone. So unlike a computer screen, you don't get eye strain from reading it for prolonged periods.
27Yes it does however I don't read as much as I should to justify spending the $$ on it.
28nope, i don't watch her show.
29Oh, haven't we all learned by now??
30If I read more than I would've bought one at launch. Should've bought Amazon stock Friday morning though.
31I already wanted a Kindle, so Oprah's endorsement doesn't change that at all.
The discount does mean I'll probably get one sooner than I otherwise would.
32well she made me crave having it BTW there's a sony kindle look a like for out sie the US
33Oprah will never positively influence my opinions on gadgets. Her endorsement actually sways me against the kindle -just the teeniest bit. I've really wanted a kindle for a while now; Sad Amazon decided to snub Canada/UK out of the picture. Though the $50 discount is by no means a 'dent' in the kindle's price, anything helps right? To cover tax at least.. My only complaint, I can't take advantage of the discount.
