Recently married and stressing about the whole name-changing process? Well there's this awesome new site called namebirdie that will walk you through all the steps to change your maiden name to your new married name online!
It costs $25, but for this small fee, it will save you the hassle of finding all of the forms to fill out online, and you won't need to get a lawyer.
All you have to do is fill out the necessary forms, print and sign them, mail the forms away, and voila, your name will legally be changed! Love that!

Awesome idea. My mom still has issues with this and she's been married 40 years! xo
1I didn't have any trouble changing my name I thought it was easy. What makes it so hard I wonder.
2Great, but how do you change it BAAAACK??? lol
3I'm so glad I'm Spanish and I don't have to do that. I've had my surname for a long time and I won't change it for anyone. This honestly baffles me.
4I am using this service in December! I was sold after I found out that they can change my medical license and other similar documents, because I really didn't want to hire an attorney.
5I don't remember the process, but I think it was fairly easy when I went about doing it myself... but this would have been nice to know 2 1/2 years ago!
6Um...I don't know about in other states, but here in MA, you can just walk into a court (probate court for sure... perhaps others, just call ahead), ask for a name-change form, and fill it out. The people behind the desk will take it and tell you what comes next. Best of all: it is FREE.
Why would you spend money for that??
7Yeah, but it's a hassle to go to court. Who has time for that? I'm at work during normal court hours. I hyphenated my name after I got married--I wonder if this program will let me change it again to just my married name--hyphenating has been a hassle for me.
8What makes it so hard? Oh man, it's been tough. My work changed my email, but it took them weeks to get the new business cards. Then, I had to get a new license because my registration was expired, but because my social security card wasn't in yet, I couldn't get my new name on it. Then you have all the magazines, online stuff, and I changed my email address. It's a hassle, but it's worth it.
9Maybe it is easier in some states? There's no court involved in CA, well not for the basics. Maybe medical licenses and other stuff would be different.
10I didn't think the process was hard! But as macgirl said, maybe it's different here in CA. I've never heard of hiring a lawyer to change your name when you get married.
11yeah, like six of my olders friends got married this year and last year, and they all said they just went down to the courthouse and filled out a form...
12i've been told that it's relatively easy - my biggest issue is that my primary residence state isn't where i live - so i'm going to have to make another trip down there to Florida in order to get a new license and all that. i like that there's a site though that can help with everything...
13this is seriously the thing I'm stressing over and i don't even get married for another 6 months! I haven't the foggiest idea where to even start, so maybe I'll give this site a try.
14HA! My best friend spent a month trying to get her new social security card. She went to their office, spoke to four different people on the phone who all told her different (and slightly moronic) things, went BACK to their offices and finally had it come the next day...after ALL that hassle. It's not the name change itself that's hard, it's everything else you have to update!
