Barbiegirls.com, a new site for the Barbie girl in us all, has revealed it will sell a Barbie Girls MP3 Player starting in July.
Apparently, the accessory pack to go along with the player includes art deco beads, fashion-girl earrings, a color-popping backcover, a pet charm and an exclusive pet (panda, penguin or turtle) adoptable online. The accessories snap onto the wires attached to the ear buds. Accessory packs will cost about $10. No word yet on the cost of the player.
As someone who grew up in a Barbie-free household, I am less than excited for this and wonder if young girls really need Barbie on their MP3 players to make them interesting. Isn't it about the music and player's functions after all?

I'd buy it as a gift for a little kid. I have to admit that I think the earbud earrings are super cool for a little girl. My sister and I were both big on Barbie as kids. Is she still cool?
1I would have had it 15 years ago, but not now.
2no, maybe not even as a gift...maybe.
3Not even for a kid. Cheesy!
4I bought my 6 year old daughter a Tinkerbell Disney mp3 player, which also has a slot for "mix clips" which are memory cards preloaded with disney music. It's wonderful and so cute. We were also able to get a matching digital camera from Disney with Tink too. It's a really great product for the early elementary set.
We're a proud to be Barbie/Bratz free household too!
5It kinda freaks me out because it's in the shape of a doll.
6I would be embarassed to use one
7I don't think little girls should even own MP3 players. My neighbor bought her 5-year-old and 4-year-old daughter and son (at the time) iPod shuffles for Christmas, and you wouldn't believe how loud they blasted those things. I know that's an extreme situation, but I just hope Mattel doesn't forget the volume control.
8Sure...for my daughter (when I have one).
9Maybe as a gift for a cousin or a niece but as a thing for me? Nah, I'll stick with my boring Sansa, lol.
10I would. I wouldn't give a damn about what others think about it. If they don't like the fact that I'm expressing the kid in me, then the hell with them. Beats the hell out of being like everyone else if you ask me.
11I have never been a Barbie lover, so this is really way too far for me. Although it'd be cute to see a little kid with it; something like that...
12i loved barbie as a kid. i wouldn't buy one for myself, but i would buy one for my little cousin. she would love it.
13I grew up in a Barbie-free house so this doesn't thrill me. Now an iPod on the other hand...very exciting!
14Definitely! I love Barbie, and the kids at my daycare would practically worship it! lol
15No way!
16aw, that`d be cute if i was 7. i`d show it off to all my friends. yup, this is gonna start some drama. HAHAHa!

I wouldn't buy one. Girls are exposed to Barbie-esque beauty/body stereotypes all over the place, so why should their music player be another source of that? Music tastes are about individuality, and that's not exactly the feeling I get with Barbie...
18No way, I don't like Barbie.
19For me? No. For a little girl? Sure, maybe, if they're into Barbie.
20I've never been a Barbie fan but I could see the cuteness of it for a little girl...I just think they're giving high tech devices to younger and younger children, cell phones, mp3 players/ipods...my son got one for his B-day and he's 3! I guess it's up to the individual.
21Maybe if I had a little girl, but not for myself.
22I guess it'd be cute for a younger girl, but mostly unnecessary.
23I asked my 7 year old cousin if she still liked barbie and she said no...so I guess this is out
24I wouldn't buy it even as a gift for a young girl. Barbies reinforce the already pounded in idea of having to be skinny to be pretty. Helloooooo body image issues. Plus, as the kid gets older they're not going to want a Barbie mp3 player anymore and it'll become a waste of money.
25no way , ha . when i was 7 i would .
~i could see us holdin hands

My daughter is 9 and she's been over Barbie for a few years already. She does have an iPod shuffle and absolutely loves it. I know it seems like kids are being introduced to technology at younger ages, but that's what every generation says. I'm proud that my daughter is Computer savvy and likes gadgets just like me!
27My niece would LOVE this
28nope, it is too girly and i think a little childish. plus it is bigger than my mp3.
