T-Mobile is reporting that presales for the first phone to use Google's Android platform, the G1, are three times higher than what they expected, which is awesome.
I'm happy to see a smartphone enter into iPhone and BlackBerry territory so seamlessly, and the G1 is a great phone to inaugurate Android.
Interestingly, in my informal polls of friends, when I ask if they're interested in the G1, they say yes but that they'd really like to wait for a show-stopping phone to utilize Android before they switch cell phones. It makes sense, since many shy from early adoption and wait until a better, second version comes out.
So, is that you? Are you into Android but not necessarily the G1?

Well, I was interested in an Android phone, but then my fiance surprised me this weekend by getting me an iPhone for my birthday! Woo hoo! He's interested in possibly getting an Android phone for himself, though.
1I love my iPhone, I wouldn't switch
2Seriously... is that is right there???
3It's hideous.
Row--that's not the G1, but an early prototype Google used to show off Android.
4Yeah, not the most attractive phone. Even the Palm Centro is cuter.
5Not interested. I'm perfectly happy with the iPhone.
6I've played with the android phone a bit, I wasn't totally impressed.
7I'm not really in the market for a phone, since I just got a pearl earlier this month (and love it!) but I imagine by the time I need a new one, there will be a new Android out.
8I'd also want it to be for AT&T too :eyes:
I preordered the G1 mostly because I'm with TMobile and was due for an upgrade, but I think it's going to be great and am glad to see TMobile finally get the contract on an innovative phone. In all honesty, I don't think it's the prettiest phone tho. Function over form? Idk-- I'll have to wait to see.
9Yes, I'm waiting to see what comes out next. If SE do one, then YES its mine if not ill buy from china wholesalers and get something cooler.
10The G1 is pretty limited, I'll wait for a G2 or a different Android phone. I'd love to have one (and program for it), but the G1 isn't convincing me.
11good grief. just cuz it's from Google, doesn't mean it's good. i've yet to hear WHY it's actually so great.
you're talking about a company that intentionally keeps its products in beta for years on end (hello, Google News? Gmail?) so they don't have to take responsibility for them and you want me to buy hardware with their software on it now?
no thanks!
(and i agree with the others, the phone looks like crap. my first Nokia, back in the 90's, looked better.)
