A 21st Century Gal's New Social Need: "Don't Blog About Me!"

Maybe Chris Noth was right — maybe technology is hurting our chances of finding true love. It's definitely hurting a girl's reputation, as Curbed SF found with this San Francisco-based telephone-pole plasterer. She felt the need to tell her potential dates a new don't:

"Don't blog about me!"

With everyone and her mother starting her own blog these days, I've got to back a girlfriend up and warn others that in the art of personal blogging, please, keep the date-blasting to a minimum. It'll come back and haunt somebody. Maybe even on a telephone pole in your town.

OMG this is on Dolores and 18th!! It's so close to my neck of the woods. . .I wonder if it's still there. But it's not just the blogs of people you know in a romantic-ish sense that are annoying if they're about you. Similarly irksome are those super passive-aggressive entries that give no names but drop enough clues that it's CLEAR who they're bitching and moaning about--both to that bitchee, and everyone else--BUT they're not mature enough to simply talk to that person. That's irritating.

Well in that case I would agree with you that you have a legit bitch. If something is set to private, its equivalent to a locked door in my book. I mean, would this same guy not have a problem walking up and peering into someone's bedroom window?

TidalWave why don't you just switch your profile to private? I don't think you have a gripe. You remind me of an ex-gf I had that would wear revealing and provocative outfits and then complain cause guys would check her out. You have a choice.

There's a whole new etiquette that needs to spring up around blogging and social networking sites, I think. I have so many friends who all have different ideas of what is polite and what they expect. Of course, the most polite thing is to know all their expectations and respect them, but the question is what is the most common expectation that can be used as a ground rule until you know an individual's expectation.

I sometimes want to say "Don't facebook stalk me". Meaning when someone looks through all my friends, all my tagged photos, every wall comment.... get a life!

hilarious. and so true. that whole quarterlife show proved we're not really interested in being the subject of your blog post as you sort through your fabricated angst. i love the very non-tech way she posted it and it still went viral. gotta love technology.
