Despite the well-known contract between AT&T and Apple, Boy Genius reports that the exclusivity length is not public and therefore unknown, and that yes — the iPhone could come to Verizon soon. How soon? As early as an announcement as 2009's MacWorld event.

Since most of my friends and family who want to switch to an iPhone but haven't blame being in a Verizon contract, I know many of them will be stoked to hear this news and start gearing up for a switch. Tell me — if the iPhone comes to Verizon, will you buy it?

Hell yes! That is the only reason I dont have one. That and the fact that I dont have hundreds of dollars laying around.
1it's still too expensive for me. and i live in silicon valley, and I have a full time job at a NICE computer company. TOO EXPENSIVE.
2for the longest time i was really upset because verizon didn't have the iPhone, so when the 3G came out my fiance and i sucked it up and changed our plans to AT&T to get it. i think that i would be a bit sad if i could have stayed with verizon since i'd been with them for AGES - but i guess you can go back right? oh well...i think that it's great that another provider is going to try to get in on the revenue that's generated by apple, the only problem that i see is that verizon has vCast and all that other stuff that you can't put on the phone right?
3It's the only reason I don't have one. And my family and friends would kill me if I switched and I would cost them minutes. Oh and I also would like it to have more storage space on it.
4i am waiting for the rumored mini version...but i would buy the regular one now because i switched back to verizon for a family plan from ATT right before the release...either way, new phone time for me:)
5I wouldn't get one either way. I am with Verizon now and I have a DARE which is totally fun and takes great picture. I'm not a Mac kool aid drinker so I don't feel any pressure to get the iPhone. I think it's kind of cool NOT to have the same phone everyone else has maybe I'm nuts
6abso-freaking-lutely! I hate AT&T service with a passion!!!!!!!!!!!! My boyfriend has an IPhone and Im on his plan and we hate AT&T we can't get service anywhere! seriously people it's not even worth it to get the Iphone but if it came to verizon i would make my boyfriend switch asap
7of course i would. im with verizon right now and would love to upgrade to an iphone.
8I don't have the money right now...but if it comes to Verizon, I'll definitely save up and try to get it!
9It is so hard being a techie and being frugal, but that is my life. So while I lust after the iPhone, there will be no iPhone for me. Hell, I don't even have an iPod, just a Shuffle.
But, I think opening it to other carriers would be wonderful for those out there with more disposable income.
10Proly would, love Verizon service but hate most of their phones.
However, I went to a Blackberry a while ago and am really liking it. Just don't like web surfing on it.
11I might look at it a little more intently, but I love my blackberry. Iphones touchscreens don't like me!
12I've been waiting for this. Hellloooo MacWorld.
13No, the carrier wasn't the problem, I have AT&T. I'm just not an iPhone person
14If i didn't already have a blackberry curve.. I'd be all over that sh*t! haha But there is nothing wrong with my bb so I'll stick with it until it breaks... then maybe I'll do the apple! Yay verizon.
15Seeing this has calmed my urge to get a new iPod Touch like I've been wanting. I can live with my 5th gen video for a little while longer if the iPhone on Verizon is a possibility! Very exciting.
16Hmmm... that's interesting... Does Verizon have a GSM network? Otherwise, how would the iPhone work? I guess they can make a non-GSM version...
Anyhoo, my vote was no. Hahahaha. Not an iPhone person at all. I'm hoping the Touch Diamond (or the MDA Vario IV) comes to my carrier next... I'm not keen on shelling out like $800 for an unlocked version...
17So strange.. I have AT&T and have service EVERYWHERE around here. It's the Verizon people who always have problems with service.
But I actually read some article about how much money an iPhone costs a year (all the monthly payments and other contractual obligations) and it's wayyyyy too much money to be putting out if I could use it for something else like an awesome vacation!
18I had Verizon for almost a month and actually didn't like their service at all. Plus they've got all this software and stuff that you're expected to use if you want certain features. I already have the iPhone 3G and AT&T is suiting me fine. I get excellent 3G reception where I live and the calls are actually clearer than the ones I had on Verizon. Go figure.
19I've been screwed by Verizon several times, so I wouldn't want an iPhone on Verizon's network.
20I wanted it to be covered by T-Mobile. I ended up waiting out my contract with them and signing with AT&T, which I'd had bad experience with in the past. So far so good this time around though.
21I like verizon service, i think the ipod is really over-rated. i would pay an etf just for a phone that is made by Apple. For me its not about phones they are a added bonus, but there in Washington i get great verizon service. espically in my apt which is in a building more then 100 years old. I have my pearl and soon I will have my LG Dare. so i am content with whats ava to me. I think we focus to much on products and not the service. which is what we are paying for.
22When it comes to Sprint let me know.
23I switched to AT&T when iPhone came out and will never go back, I love AT&T!
24omfg. I've been waiting forever for this! If I knew about this before, I wouldn't have updated my contract with a new LG Voyager(which I happen to LOVE!!). Hmm, I dunno if my love for the Voyager will keep me from buying an iphone tho!! ughhhhhhhhh I want oneeeeeeee!!!lkzjsdhfliwefskhlsie7udfgzlfduag;wougas
25iphone mania anyone?
doesnt matter which network its on, some people (me included) just AREN'T interested.
26no, because verizon sucks!!!
27omg i love verizon and also get a corp discount with my job. Everyone i know has verizon so its perfect....that is really the only reason why i never got the iphone.
28Oh my yes I would snap up the iPhone if it were to be available to Verizon customer. Right now I'm using the LG Voyager which is for now a great substitute for the iPhone, but I've been heavily seduced by the iPhone.
29Well, I'm currently stuck on a 2 year contract with AT&T, but I'd switch to Verizon if the plans were cheaper.
30Omg that would be totally awesome if they brought it to Verizon. I have a Dare now but would totally give that up for an iphone.
31No I wouldn't buy an iPhone for Verizon, because they will strip it of all it's features, put their own menu on it, and make you pay for any of the services that the iPhone provides for free with their crappy "Get-it-now" service. No free email, no free ring tones, no free anything. I've had a Verizon phone from motorola once that had all sorts of kewl features...only to learn that Verizon stripped it down and put there own crappy menu on it and disabled all the features (email, blue tooth connectivity to transfer files with PC). They make you pay for EVERYTHING...ring tones should be free if you can find them or make them yourself. Not on Verizon. Email should be free, just using a simple POP account, but not on Verizon. I think the number one reason Apple doesn't have an iPhone for Verizon, is because Verizon wouldn't negotiate with them on the features.
Other than that, I have no strong feelings.
32^^ There have been some rumors that Verizon is going to start not stripping their devices of everything because it is riduclous (latest rumor is the new Blackberry Storm will not have a locked GPS)
Verizon was the original provider that Apple wanted but Verizon wanted to strip everything so I'm sure they would have no agree not to strip if they were to carry it.
I would have to try it out for 30 days to see if I liked it over my beloved Blackberry so we'll see.
33I can't wait for the iPhone to be available at another carrier. I'm with a small rural cell company that was just bought out by Verizon, and it would be the icing on the cake if that also meant I could get an iPhone. *crossing my fingers*!!
34I would get it in a heartbeat and I know my BF would too. I was sold when my friend showed me an app where if she didn't know where she wanted to eat she could open it up, put her location and shake it up and it would respond by generating a random place to eat!
35I had also heard that Apple went to Verizon first but they couldn't make a deal and let Apple have the control they wanted. Also since it has to sync through iTunes I think that was in direct conflict with Verizon's own services. I think this is a rumor that we won't see come true.
36i love my iphone but it's not without its problems and neither is att. but i'm all in so i guess i'll keep it. i think it should be available on other networks and then maybe my monthly bill wouldn't be so darn high. competition has its rewards.
37for me, it's not the carrier.. it's the price.
38Um, yes yes yes!!
This has been the huge debate in my family now. No one will switch to AT&T. Plan's up in...June, so if they have the iPhone I'll be in cell phone/Apple heaven.
39That would be awesome, but perhaps it's just a rumor :/
40No way. My mother has Verizon, and I HATE them. I have a iPhone now, and if I'm forced to switch to Verizon, I may seriously consider selling it.
I changed over to AT&T from T-Mobile not too long ago because of horrible reception in my apartment, and AT&T has never given me problems, so I'm happy not switching for quite some time.
Verizon would have to offer me one hell of a plan to get me to switch again.
41Ughhh. The iphone needs to come to Sprint!
.
42that's def the only reason i don't have an iphone...if it was on verizon right now i would impulse buy it without a second thought. but since i'm sticking with v-dubs (good plan, coverage, etc) it's made me think about other cool phones i could get...like a blackberry of some sort (so many to choose from!) or the dare or something else!
