New G1 T-Mobile Ad: Pretty Cool or Pretty Patronizing?

Since the Google/T-Mobile presentation yesterday of the hotly-anticipated Android-running G1 smartphone, the G1 has been playing with my emotions with reports that it looks great, works great, but has some big flaws. The again, up and down reviews are no huge surprise, especially if you weathered the storm that was the iPhone 3G launch.

So here's the new commercial for the G1. The concept is apparently based around the fact that if you make words grammatically incorrect, young people will respond (since that's how they talk?). Maybe I'm guilty of using the non-word "funner," but "funnerer?" Never.

That said it's a nice-looking commercial that doesn't cop anyone else's advertising style (ahem). What do you think?

The phone looks cool, but the ad seems to target the teen crowd, for some reason. I'd give it a whirl, but I'm no longer with T-Mobile.

It's a great ad, it actually makes me want one of those phones. but I'm too happy with my AT&T service, so I'll stick with my centro until google and att join forces (which is unlikely)

Maybe being in my 30's is the reason I've never run across "funner" or "funnerer". If you are marketing to the crowd that does use those phrases can they pay the price for your phone or data plan? I haven't looked into their costs but I doubt they are free or cheep.

I thought the commercial was funny and was targeted towards the teen/20s age group. I'm getting one and the phone is $179 for an upgrade with 2 yr contract and the unlimited data plan is only $35. So if someone can afford an iPhone, they can afford a G1.
