We've discussed Update Envy — the condition in which you experience great jealousy when a friend gets an updated version of a gadget you have, like if a friend got the iPhone 3G before you, and you were left with your sad old first generation iPhone.
But do you ever experience Refresh Rage? This is when a tech company (I'm looking at you, Apple) refreshes a product you've just bought, and your purchase is so recent that you wouldn't dream of replacing it, but it ticks you off that there's already a new version. Yes, I'm referring to the rumor that Apple might be coming out with a 32 GB iPhone 3G sometime soon.
While it's altogether silly to be mad - your gadget is by no means obsolete, it's just not the newest version of it - I totally admit that I will be beyond irritated if the 32 GB iPhone premieres and my shiny, still new-to-me phone is not the hottest newest gadget on the street. Petty? Yes. Understandable? I think so. Tell me you don't get annoyed if you buy a new product, just for the company to come out with a bigger and better product the next day!

I actually heard the opposite - that a 32 GB would /not/ be coming out. Hm.
But I don't get too mad. I know that's the price you pay for early adoption, and I know that when it comes to technology, when you're on top of the latest thing, the next thing is already half-completed. Basically, when you're on time, you're already 6 months too late.
1I won't be mad if they come out with a 32GB iPhone because I don't think I would use all that storage.
2I do sometimes. But I didn't with my Ipod. It was one of the big old heavy ones. Ipod photo 20gb, I think. And Apple keeps coming out with newones everyday. But I don't care. I love my Frank. He's the only Ipod I need. But if you take video game consoles for example, I wait for six months or so until they work the kinks out and then buy them. They're usually cheaper by then anyway. Shrug.
3Sadly, I am not often on the cutting edge of things due to budgetary restraints. I tend to suss out the best version for the money I have, and then I love it until it breaks down.
That being said, I recently lost my Sony Ericson 810 to the sewer mutants, a week AFTER they discontinued the model. After frantic searching all over the city for a replacement, I was forced to purchase a lower model. (I live on my cell, so not having one for even a few days was not an option).
About a week later, I got the announcement for SOny that they were releasing the new, bigger and badder version of my beloved phone. And yes.. I did get angry for a minute!
4I'm on the bleeding edge of technology so it is rare that I get burned (I have the newest thing immediately and I suffer through the kinks). While I was hoping for the 32GB iPhone if it came out tomorrow I would still be OK with my 16GB.
5I was bummed that 1 year after I stood in a very hot line for an 8g iphone for $499 and the 3g was already out 1 year later...I'm still not ready to upgrade.
6This always happens to me. But I deal with it as too much of a good thing can get overwhelming.
7Aww I'd be kinda sad/mad if they come out with a 32GB. Apple is such a liar.
8I just got a 8GB 1st Gen. for my birthday last February & I had to trade it in for the 16GB 2nd Gen. I love the new features that 2nd Gen. has. My husband was perfectly fine with the trade, because when I got my 8GB, I gave him my 30GB Video Ipod. He was very happy with that!
9I feel that way about the ipod nanos. I just brought a square nano this summer and this month there's a new cheaper version
10I'm kind of mad at apple right now. I fianlly broke down and bought an ipod nano, and of course after it's too late to return it, Apple announces the new nano. Ugh! I guess I should have known better.
11it's always the case though. the minute you take your gadget out of the store it's basically obsolete.
12I don't know about the Apple store taking trades, but we have the Mac Store in Seattle which does. It did however, give me store credit for $107.00 so I had to pay the remainder. I didn't have the earbuds, just the usb & unit.
13i don't care as long as the other version still works. i did get annoyed with able over the ipod though. i was digging that video for everyone thing but had no plans to buy a new one. plus i thought that little square was ugly. now they have seen the error of their ways and gone back to the longer version and i wonder how many people are pissed!!! haha. now that i have an iphone i have no reason to update. i can watch videos on there. but i didn't buy the 16gb iphone so i could care less about a 32.
14I definitely do. :| Been burned a ton of times. But it's more of a newest product envy and ticked that a newer version just came out AFTER I bought than anything else.
Now I research and research so I can be sure if/when the next, newest version is due out.
15I bought a first generation iphone a month before they released the (cheaper) 3G. I could have returned my phone to the AT&T store and just paid a restocking fee but I missed the cut off by just a few days. Needless to say I was filled with much rage.
16I wait and wait and wait until a gadget does just what I want before I buy one, but I do get a little peeved when it goes on sale or price drops within a month or so of buying it.
