In recent years (and even months, due to the Hands Free Law), the use of Bluetooth earpieces has become more and more common, and I'm increasingly seeing more and more people on the street wearing them, which is great!

They're convenient and wireless and that's nice and all, but seriously. What is this trend of wearing them when you're not using them (or expecting a call)? I'm not talking about keeping it in the car (which gets a free pass for safety's sake), I mean just putting them on, walking the streets (or the mall, or where I inevitably see a gaggle of them: the airport), and sporting them like an accessory. No one's calling.
Is it the anxiety that you might get a call and won't be able to get it on and connect fast enough? Educate me, inactive Bluetooth headset wearers!

There is a guy i work with that we call "Bluetooth Brad" because he walks around the office all day with that damn Bluetooth headset attached to his hear. Mostly i just want to shove it down his throat b/c it bugs me so much .... but i'm not bitter or anything
1I wear my when not on a call only in the car. It is just as dangerous to put it in while driving as being on the phone. IMO. I don't wear it while in the office or in stores because that looks so ridiculous to me.
2I don't even have one. I just use the free earphone included with my phone when I drive. And I rarely drive.
3I wear it almost always while at work (when I did work) but otherwise I don't even use it. I don't talk in the car, but I am guilty of Texting While Driving
4My Dad referrs to these lovely individuals as "the Borg" I have to laugh every time I see one. When we were waiting for a flight together we had a 3 hr long running joke about it, so now it's called Borg spotting!
5Bluetooth Brad will now be known as "The Borg"
thanks psychobabble!!
6I never wear bluetooth devices, but if I did, I wouldn't wear them around when I'm not using them. I think it's pretty dorky when others do it. It would be the same as wearing ipod headphones when I'm not using them (I don't do that either).
7Srsly, I think that a bluetooth makes people feel important or something. I wear it in the car and that is it.
8I don't use one at all.
9I feel like a tool if I leave it in. So unless I'm in the car I don't use it.
10they are tacky! worst invention ever!
11I only used a set once and it was while I had to do a lot of talking at the office while doing computer work at the same time. Otherwise I never use one.
12i'm still one of the few i guess that don't have headsets yet, but i also walk everywhere that i go living in NYC so i don't have to worry about being pulled over for driving while on the phone. i do see a lot of people with them on even if they aren't on a call, and i think that it's a bit rude. i don't know - i feel like i just don't know if i can talk to them since i'm never 100% sure if they are listening to someone talk - but i guess if i had one, i might be one of those types too.
13And lately...I've just been wearing my apple headphones for my iPhone, it's easier for my Mom to hear me on that. My jawbone, first edition isn't that great.
14no. I find that really obnoxious.
15i have enough trouble keeping it on while talking. they are uncomfortable in my ears. i don't even use it in the phone anymore.
16You mean the mid-life crisis badge? No, I never wear a bluetooth headset.
17I used to have a bluetooth headset which switched between my office phone and my work mobile, which was heaps handy, it was permanently on my head unless I was out to lunch... Took it off when I went home/shopping on the way home from work etc. But then I was permanently on the damn phone, so it was necessary.
Now I dont even have one - just dont pick up the phone whilst driving!
18The people who walk around wearing them when they aren't on a call only are doing it because they want everyone else to know how very important they are. I can't stand those people.
19I just think it's quite a pretentious thing. But I do understand that it's a necessary tool for some people.
20Well I think it would be kind of a pain in the butt to have to keep taking it off and putting it back on. I don't wear them, or even own one, but I can see it would be a bit of an inconvenience. Except when people randomly start talking I think they're a little crazy, but then I see they have a Bluetooth. Meh.
21Seeing people walk around in those is a pet peeve of mine. I can understand it for certain jobs, but Joe Schmoe sitting in a restaurant with one on is just for show. I almost turned down renting a house based on the realtor walking around like a dick with one in his ear.
22I call people who wear them when not on a call "BlueTools". But I have to use one in the car because I live in CA and it's state law now. :::shrugs::: But I don't stay on the phone if I go into a store, it's just obnoxious. The only time I'll stay on is if I'm walking from car to home.
23I usually put mine on when I leave the office for lunch, and don't bother to take it off when I return. It's sometimes difficult to hear my phone in my purse when I'm running errands, and it's a pain to dig it out before it rolls over to voice mail.
It's certainly not pretentious. If I get a call from DH or one of the kids, it's much easier tho just slap the button than dig out my phone.
It's nothing like MP3 player headphones, because you never know when a call will come in. I presume you know when you expect the music to start playing (or not).
24i dont have one because i have no need for one. we don't have handsfree laws in VA yet & even if we did i would just not answer a call if i was driving unless i knew it was important.
ugh the thing that annoys me the MOST about bluetooth headsets is when people dont take them off when they go into a movie theater. then all you see is that flashing blue light during the whole movie!
25There's a woman who always wears them to our meetings, the whole time. In a meeting! It's not like she can take a call-so what's the point? We're always asked to turn off our cell phones or put them on vibrate! I have never worn a bluetooth in my life. They cannot be that comfortable. And do they even have a vibrate setting??
26I only wear it when I'm using it, even though my hair completely covers mine.
27I got one a few years back when I was working in D.C. and the laws required it. But I would never wear it unless I was on a call.
It's now collecting dust somewhere.
28Wearing one while you're driving is OK and makes sense.
But walking around town, going out to eat, sitting in meetings, sitting at your desk -- wearing a BT headset makes you look like a total douchebag.
AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP SENDING TEXTS WHILE DRIVING!!! Was it not enough that a train conductor killed himself and 19 other people recently while texting?!?!?
29I'll wear mine mainly when I'm driving and sometimes when I'm doing stuff at home which required me to use both of my hands changing diapers, cleaning, cooking besides I'm cursed with small ears and the darn thing don't stay on all the time.
30I do while driving and out shopping - I miss way too many calls from loud store music/crowds/etc that having it in my ear means I won't.
31If I'm expecting a call I do. Especially since I got this ginormous bag that I can't find anything for the life of me...
32I had one, but the sound quality was terrible so I went back to a plain old corded headset.
I think anyone who wears a bluetooth headset when not making a call looks like an enormous tool.
33i wish there was an option that said "no - and i hate people who do!"
34If you want to keep your headset close but not wear in your ear all the time, here are cool headset carrying solutions: www.nectaraccessories.com. Also there's a 20 discount coupon, which is NECTAR20 that's good until 10/31. Feel free to foward to your friends who wear in their ears all the time ...
35I wear them when I'm playing games online to chat to other players
