Now that I have my Blu-ray player in my PS3, I feel like I can start buying movies again, in that format. I stopped buying DVDs because it's time to move forward, and it sounds like I'm not alone: DVD sales have flatlined recently; whether that has to do with people waiting to see if they should commit to Blu-ray or movie downloads remains to be seen.
Luckily, my big DVD library doesn't qualify me as a hoarder since my player is backwards compatible, but I still remember my boyfriend insisting that I get rid of my haggard old VHS tapes (I wasn't watching them). I give crap to other people, too — when I ride in my mom's car, I inevitably pull out a few old cassette tapes and wave them around saying, "really?!"
It's hard to give up old formats though; many people don't, electing to keep old players around because they enjoy the format (like with records) or just don't want to give up things they own. So tell me: Are you hanging on to old formats — VHS, music cassettes, records, etc.?

My family still has a VHS player, but we rarely use it. We also have a DVD player. Not Blue Ray or HD, just a regular one with a ton of DVD's.
1I still have a lot of my CDs from when I was in Jr high, high school. I have a couple FIRM work out tapes that I will never get rid of because they work!
2I still have old vhs tapes still but i dont watch them. I really need to burn them to a dvd or something it's time ~sniff~ to move on.
3Does CDs count?
4Cause I still prefer CDs. I usually like having a hardcopy of my music.
5ive still got vhs, a vhs player, dvds (i guess those are old news now too), cassette tapes, records, mostly everything ahhah
6Mint condition record collection:) So that's here to stay!
7Ditto, Berlin.
8I'll never give up my records.
I'm hoping to some day convert my VHSes to DVD I have 2 seasons of Sex & the City and other great stuff on VHS! I just got them not that long ago, but my VCR just broke, I'm debating whether it'd be cheaper to get a new VCR or all my VHS on DVD!
9i have tons of records (over 150) that i keep lugging from place to place. this new apartment is the smallest one so far, so we've decided to either get a USB turntable and convert our records into MP3 or just keep them and play them from the new turntable (we'd have to spend $100 to get what we need to be able to play the records on our new sound system.
I also have a ton of DVDs that i still watch. i just bought my first blue-ray disc (hellboy!!) since i recently got a PS3.
so exciting...
10I don't download movies on the computer because if its crashes then i loss way to much i can hold on to my dvds forever almost without that worry
11Yes, I keep some old formats. I would love to collect some old records and buy a record player, I think it would be fun and show respect for the past.
I still have Dvds; I do not trust downloading them, I prefer the hard-copy. Also I still use my PS2; works just fine and I'm not too interested in blue-ray (yet.) I haven't bought a DVD in almost 3yrs; I tend to just leave my favorite films on my DVR for use, plus it allows me to find out just how much I love a film.
Also, I still have my Cd's; perfectly good and I have only my fave tracks on my iPod. I plan on keeping my Cd's for nostalgia same goes for my cd player. I still buy some cd's however they have to be really worth it (The Beatles "Love", soundtrack to "Nightmare Before Christmas.") I also have back-up cd's for my downloads.
I also have old VHS homevideos that need to be transfered to a DVD before the films rots (unless it has
.)
12Yes, i still have a VCR and tapes. I also still have cassette tapes but i no longer listen to them. I can't get away from my Sansa.
13I still have a ton of VHS tapes, from years and years of taping movies and shows from the TV - but I don't watch them anymore (unplugged my VHS ages ago)
As for DVDs, I download most of my movies and would only buy a DVD if it was a really good/collectors type thing. Over here we haven't had the HD / blu ray surge (South Africa is a wee bit behind), so as far as I'm concerned DVDs aren't on their way out just yet. Besides, most Blu-Ray players can read DVDs and CDS, yes?
14Yeah I've got a VHS player. It's an 'all-in-one' with my little tv. And I might get rid of that one, but only to buy a bigger one. I like my millions of VHS Disney movies and don't plan to toss them out for DVD versions. I like to be old school like that.
But I do have a DVD
player and a couple DVDs. But I don't use it as much.
15I still have the movies from when I was a kid on VHS. I need to get them converted to DVD.
16I still have some VHS tapes that happened shown up on DVD yet.
17VHS player? Is that what it's come down to? LOL
18i have tons of vhs tapes and i actually still use my vcr to record my fav shows. so suck on that!!! haha. i even have a few cassettes from back in the day. rhythm nation! yeah, baby! as long as the players still function, i'm not updating. obviously i don't buy new tapes but i still use the ones i have without shame.
19Long live vinyl! I have a massive record collection. It's actually becoming a storage problem in my one-bedroom apartment, but I'll never give it up.
20I have mostly ripped all of my dvd's and I got rid of my CD collection back in 2002.
I have moved house a lot though and carrying around old format media was not helpful to this. Maybe I'll "collect dvds" but it's unlikely.
