When I heard that Best Buy was buying the flailing Napster for $121 Million, I had to remind myself that yes, Napster has been around in a completely legal incarnation for the past few years. But let's be real — Napster's glory days were 1999-2000, when it popped up as the first really mainstream file-sharing network, only to be slammed down, of course, by angry artists like Dr. Dre and Metallica.

At that time I was just a naive college student with a T1 connection, and in those first few months, I honestly had no idea there would be consequences for all that "free" music. As quickly as everyone started downloading with abandon, everyone stopped once it became a matter of legislation. But still, salad days.
Anyway, tell me: Were you a Napster user? I don't think Lars is listening.

Alexander McQueen
Just Cavalli
Ernest Jones
Never had a desire to use Napster. I'm a pirate =]
1loved it! too bad i grew a heart and now pay for my music through itunes.... :[ poor college student!
2No
3Yep, I used Napster way back in the day. It was glorious.
4Aww Napster. I remember when I was 9 or 10 in Chicago with my best friends listening to music from Napster. My dad had downloaded it for the computer and we would use it. Those were the best years of my life. Too bad I moved.
Anyways before I started rambling lol. Yes I did use Napster back then.
5Nope, even back then at 13 I had a problem with getting something for nothing.
6mainly cuz i didn't hardly use the computer, let alone knew how to download back then, even tho i was in like 8th grade hee hee.
7Those were the days! I was on Napster everyday. *sigh* Aw, well. iTunes gets my money nowadays.
8You guys are making me feel OLD. Stop!!! I think I'm closer to GeekSugar's age.
Hell yes, I remember the golden days of Napster. It was teh awesome. It is awful in its current incarnation, so like everybody else, I'm an iTunes-er these days.
I thought Shawn Fanning was so cute back in the day.
9ohmy haha, back then you would find the FBI at your doorstep if you used this! now, everyone uses file-sharing networks and some people still buy their music. oh, how times have changed.
10I was. Before it changed.
11Those were good days. I was a poor college student just discovering that yes, Virginia, there IS other music other than Top 40! I can still see visions of downloads dancing on my screen, and I still remember the very first email I got from the university's IT department telling everyone in the dorms that they were sucking up too much bandwidth with all this Napster business. *sniff* I miss those days.
12of course. my entire college music collection was from napster. and i didn't care about the "stealing" factor because no artist put out an entire record that i was feeling. so i downloaded the songs i liked. apparently apple paid attention because they gave me a reason to purchase music again. although, i still dip in the free bucket every now and then!
13Of course I was a napster user.
I'm a little curious as to why Best Buy is buying Napster though. Are they just trying to replace their declining in-store CD sales, or will Best Buy try to partner with mp3 players like Creative? hmmm...
14No, I never used Napster. I was like 8-10 years old and I didn't want to get in trouble with my parents because they said I wasn't allowed to download it.
15Oh yes I was. But why on earth would anyone want to buy the company? People stopped using it as soon as all the legal sh*t came into play, and quickly switched over to other P2P programs. Now most people just use torrents. Honestly, I didn't even know Napster still existed.
16Oh yeah, throughout university I spent ages on this - got the email from Metallica (also got the patch
). Stopped using it when I decided most of the songs were not worth it, poor quality etc etc. I prefer iTunes now.
17My dad showed me how to use Napster back then. sigh. The good old days.
18I was a Napster user! That was way back when I was 10 years old or so. It was the coolest thing to rock in my life. And I'm still cheap, so I've just moved on to Limewire. Huzzah!
19I used it and loved it.
20I was a napster user at a young age lol untill my parents figured out what i was doing and banned me form it good times..20minutes for a 3 minutes song
