As a Gmail convert, you have probably already messed around in your settings to optimize your email experience, and no doubt you've come here for helpful Gmail tips, like how the period in Gmail accounts can go basically anywhere in your email address, but are you aware of Gmail Labs?
To hear what I like about Gmail Labs, just read more. The Labs contain rotating, experimental Gmail features that you can be the first to try out — I have a few applied that I love, like adding profile photos in Gchat and the feature that applies random quotes as signatures to your emails.
Get to Labs either by going into your Gmail Settings or in the little green beaker on the top margin of the page.
Not only is it a sneak peek into features those Google kids are working on, but they enhance an already great email system!

I like the new custom color label feature, as I have been sorely disappointed by the limited default colors.
1Nice! I was not aware of this feature, thanks for the heads up!
2I have thought about the random quotes, but was worried who might get what quote. Does anyone know what they are like?
3ditto hoaxerz! i need more color options. the old palette is so flat.
4Thanks for the tip...heading over to gmail now!
5I read lifehacker.com so I've been playing w/Gmail labs since it started in June. I only have a few enabled now: custom label colors, pictures in chat and superstars. It's fun to play with the new ideas, but the bugginess the betas can be annoying when I just want to go through my email.
My current favorite Gmail tweak is the Google Redesigned add-on for FF. I love that sleek steel skin.
