If the name of Steve Job's latest presentation — Let's Rock — led you to believe that he would be unveiling new iPods, you would be right! But not only were we the first to see the new Nano design at the Yerba Buena Center For the Arts today in San Francisco, but we also got a sneak peek at some new yet-to-be-released games to hit the App Store, the details on the newest upgrades to iPod Touch, and the scoop on what the cool new features will be for iTunes 8.

The big news of the morning obviously was the new Nanos! This generation will be smaller, packed with more features, and more cost effective. Oh, did I mention the colors? The new Nano will make your plain old black and white versions green with envy. Not to mention purple, pink, red, blue, yellow, orange, and grey.

How much will the new Nano set you back? To get pricing, more product details, pics, and to find out what else is coming up in the world of Apple, just read more.

Also being included in the newest iTunes release, the Genius Playlist creator will analyze the current track you are playing and toss together a cool playlist based on the features of that song, giving you a mix of similar songs to listen to without having to hunt and peck through your music. Other goodies include an accelerometer, a built-in voice recorder, and a "Shake to Shuffle" feature. Yes, you really can shake it!

Thankfully, Steve wants us to save a little dough while enjoying our tunes! The new Nano will come in two versions: 8GB for $149 and 16GB for $199. Plus, they are available this week for you to pick up. My wallet already feels a little lighter. What else did Steve announce today? Here's a rundown:

  • iPod Touch will be smaller, sleeker, and louder with an on-board speaker. Plus, the Nike + iPod transmitter will be built right into the Touch — no more lame transmitter sticking out the bottom! The iPod Touch will come in three models: 8GB for $229, 16GB for $299, and $32GB for $399.
  • New games hitting the App Store include Spore Origins, Need for Speed: Undercover, and Real Soccer 09.
  • The iPod Classic will get a hefty storage bump, going from 80GB to 120GB with a $249 price tag.
  • iTunes will now offer HD TV shows, including those from NBC for $2.99
  • The update for your iPhone to 2.1 will fix bugs and dropped calls and will back up iTunes faster.

Not big on these new colors...but I'm glad they brought the more vertical look back to the nano's. It's easier then the wider ones if you're in the gym or out for a run, imo.

I like the colors but that is about it. Won't they scratch more easily with a rounded screen?

Katharine, the screen is rounded glass.

I really like the new colors and I'm tempted to get a nano this year to use while exercising instead of my really really old 1st gen shuffle.

I think the first game I actually buy for my iPhone will be Spore. That looked really fun.

honestly, i am so ticked that they dumped the 160GB classic. aren't these things supposed to INCREASE in storage? I understand it is all apart of apple phasing out the classic, but until flash memory in the touch is capable of handling it, why not appease those of us who like more storage versus teensy-weensy ipods?

I don't really like the colors but maybe they will be better in person. My fav color is green but Apple always does ugly greens. I like the purple the best in the pics anyway.

Either way, I have an old school Mini and the battery on it is seriously dying...so I have been anxiously awaiting these new Ipods! Looks like a trip to the Apple store this weekend...

apparently Mr steve dont give a sh*t about the dropping the prices outside the US!
While the US now get double the capacity for the same amount of money, they used this opportunity to raise the prices, at least here in Australia! i bet this is the case other places as well.... this sucks! (before the 8gb nano sold for 249 A$, now the 16gb is 279$, while in the US its 199 us$ = 245 A$)

And what up with the huge price difference, globally, on the ipod touch?

Ditto ehadams, favorite color also green, but Apple never does it justice!

No new iPod for me. I also have an old school mini (best green I've seen 'em do), and although I've seen my sister go through two minis in the time I've had mine, I got really lucky and my battery is still good. *knocks on wood* As much as I like Apple, I have to say the quality can be pretty iffy.

I love my 3rd gen green Nano, but the purple and the shake to shuffle might be too much for me to resist. I kinda really want one!

I'm worried the shake to shuffle feature might get annoying - what if it's super sensitive and it gets jostled around in your bag? Not really something that I'm too keen on.

I'm still cool with my 30g ipod classic, so until that craps out I won't be looking at getting a new ipod.

yup i'm sticking with my creative zen which does exactly what i need it to do...hold all of my tunes and play them in my car/when i'm working out for way cheaper than an iPod...

now if steve and co made the larger capacity iPods in color i'd be way tempted to upgrade to a purple one but since that's not the case...i'll pass

if i can't have all my music with me it's not worth that price...

I love the new iPods - especially the colours and new features...

...but sickened at the prices. In the US, the 16GB is almost the same price as the 8GB in the UK!

(I'm from the UK btw Smiling)

I wont be buying anything from Apple, ever again. I went to an Apple store last night and had the WORST customer service experience EVER. After noboy offered to help us for the first 1/2 hour that we browsed the store, lingering over the iphone, we went and stood in the line where one would stand to make a cash purchase. After standing in this line for a while a customer service rep changed the sign in the window to say "Iphones are not available today." Then he proceeded to tell the 5 people in line waiting to buy the iphones that they were sold out.
I asked for a manager and explained that I called the store just an hour before I arrived there and was told to come in anytime before closing to purchase one and that they had "plenty" in stock. The manager went to the back and pulled out two new iphones, one for myself and one for the other guy that stuck around to talk to a manager.
The manager had no reasoning for why she had just sent the customer service rep to lie to all of the customers anxiously waiting for the phones. All she said was, "Sorry about that."
I chose not to buy the iphone, nor will I buy another ipod. Im sure Apple won't miss my business, but I wont support a company that is going to treat customers that poorly.

P.S. This is the second time Ive had horrible service at an Apple store. The first time they sold me a laptop that had been previously opened and re-sealed, and then gave me a hard time about wanting to exchange it. I had to explain the situation to 5 people at the Apple store before they finally proceeded with the exchange transaction.

So just an update on my story: I went back to the Apple store last night and bought the LAST 8gig Iphone in stock. They transferred my number to At&t (from Tmobile) and then discovered that the Iphone was inoperable. The customer service rep told me that they could reverse the transaction (leaving me with an early-termination fee (for my 2 minute contract), and my long-time phone number would be lost OR I could take the broken iphone with me, and bring it back to exchange when they get in more phones. So, here I am, with NO phone. Thanks Apple.
