I know I've reached a certain amount of stability in my relationship completely based on one gadget: the remote. Though there was a day when I selfishly hoarded the remote like it was the ring and I was Gollum - and totally called out on it by my boyfriend - I am happy to report that today, our remote habits are healthy and egalitarian.
We agree on most TV shows, or we give up the remote when we've just watched something we know the other person doesn't love (I'm not into UFC or Scare Tactics, he can't suffer through reruns of 90210 or Sex and the City). All in all, it works out, but I still remember the days when I was so greedy for the remote (especially pre-TiVo when you had to click around to find something good).
So I've been honest, now it's your turn: Are you a remote hog? And if not — is there a remote hog in your life?

It depends on what show is on—if my Tivo is already recording it I don't care but if it's something I want to see that's not recording I'm a bit greedy.

2ok i have the WORST habit of putting something on in one room and then going in to another to hang out (i think i do it to my mom the most because she will hand me the remote) and then switch that one on whoever is watching and then get bored and go back out to the original tv. And if someone already went out to switch that one, eventually i switch channels again out there. lol i am in a support group. I go to meetings.
3it's the sense of control i desire! and besides, i get dizzy when someone else changes the channel too quickly, but not if i do... weird? yes!
4I'm not a remote hog, but man my husband sure is. There are some things I've given up in my relationship, such as being able to control the volume of my TV and pushing the cart in the grocery store.

7I am a remote hog. I like to change the channel during the commercials. There is a 2 1/2 - 3 minutes break and sometimes 5 for shows/movies and if I don't have the remote in my hand to change the channel after that time I miss some of the show/movie. So I basically hog it so I can watch other things during the commercials.
8I really don't know. I usually have my TV to myself. My boyfriend is not into TV much.
9I'm not. In fact, my boyfriend and I are kinda the opposite of remote hogs. We each prefer when the other controls the TV! We have TiVo so there is always something to watch, and commercials to forward through.

11We don't have an actual TV so our tv watching is kinda evenly spread. Sometimes we'll watch one of his shows, sometimes we'll watch one of mine and most of the time it's stuff we both like.
