With wedding season in full swing everyone has been talking about my favorite things: rings, dresses and cakes. I tend to keep up on tech and cake news so I should have realized that a surge of geeky cakes, like the iPhone cake and the Super Mario Bros. cake would influence the wedding cake market and give birth to beauties like this Nintendo wedding cake I found on Flickr. I am going to attribute the trend to a couple things, one being the Ace of Cakes show on the Food Network, which details the joy of a finely designed and decorated cake, and the other being the fact that nothing looks more delicious than a giant Nintendo.

There are many things to be said here, starting with kudos for the non-traditional cake (my Flickr snooping tells me the rest of their wedding was pretty traditional and elegant). The caption explains that the groom is a big Nintendo fan (no doy!). I say, that bride must be amazing.
There are two other delightfully geeky wedding cakes, read more
This Super Mario Bros. wedding cake was entirely edible except for the Mario and Princess on top. "It even tasted good," said the Flickr user who put it up. "It was seriously the coolest wedding cake I have ever seen."

The Star Wars Wedding cakes are in my humble opinion, the highest pinnacle of the geeky wedding cake pyramid.
If you check out the album on Flickr, you will see the couple went all out with a full Star Wars theme - Jedi and all.

OMG, the Mario and Nintendo cakes rock!
1whoa the mario cake is saweeet lol.but deff. not for my wedding cake lol
2I've always wanted to do the battle-bots wedding cake, like what they did in the Reese Witherspoon movie Sweet Home Alabama.
3
at no doy! i haven't heard that said since high school.
4I like the Super Mario one! But I agree with gigglesss, who would have that as a wedding cake?
5Cute anniversary party cakes maybe
6Oh noooooooo
7Cool for any other day 'cept the wedding
I'd use any of those for a wedding. That Mario cake is awesome.
8Omg, too geeky for a wedding.
9Well weddings don't have to be that serious -- everyone can have a good laugh. And that middle mario cake is pretty much amazing.
10For my younger brother's engagement dinner, I bought them a Harry Potter cake (they both LOVE Harry Potter) and they were so thrilled and happy. Of course, my parents didn't "get it", but that's okay! The cake wasn't for them!
11i love the nintendo cake. its a lil interesting thats its a wedding cake but oh well...the couple gettin married must be a bad ass couple!!
12ADORABLE!!!! I love it. But I would not trade my wedding cake for anything....weeeellllll, MAYBE, Just maybe a Mario Princess cake!!!!!
13not for a wedding but sure if its for a b-day!
14L!VE !N LOVE
Man that's weird! Maybe my gamer/animator friend wants something like this for his wedding... if he finds the right girl!
15The strangest cake I've seen was at a fellow band geek's wedding. their cake was shaped like a snare drum. i wonder if in exchange for all the pretty things she wanted, he asked for a geeky cake lol.

I like the Super Mario one hehe x
17I've been married once (horrific marriage) so if I got married again I'd probably just have a private ceremony and then just have a reception/party. So for that, I'd maybe have a cute cake like that but not for a first or formal wedding.
18I think the Nintendo cake is PERFECT for a wedding.
Uptight, fancy, wasteful, expensive weddings really annoy me. People who can laugh at themselves and have fun with a Nintendo cake are all right in my book.
I wish I thought of it first.
19Love the cake..but not for a wedding. And with all the fondant..I am sure it tastes pretty bad!! But it would be a great cake for my geeky husband's birthday. He is a videogame fanatic!!
20I love it! I might do this for one of our next lan games
21I dont know about "too geeky" for a wedding. I wore my HTTP panties (http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts/ladies/6792/)
22That's a GROOM's CAKE
23That would NEVER be the principle wedding cake.
It is customary in large weddings to have an additional cake with a much differnt flavor and it is typically decorated in the groom's activiy of choice (i.e. If you marry a golfer, the Groom's cake would have some sort of golfing theme to it.)
In this case, the groom's probably an old school gamer, hence the nintendo. It's not that the bride's cool. It's the tradition.
Aww I love the Nintendo cake! If I marry a nerd, which I'm sure I will, that would be perfect.
24I don't know about for a wedding, but cute!
25When Hubby and I renewed our vows for our 15th anniversary, we did it on the bridge of the Enterprise D in Vegas, and our cake was Star Trek all the way!!! (Ok, it was a 3 tiered carrot cake and it had a ST Delta Shield in gold sprinkles on the top. It was awesome!!!)
26cute cute cute!!
27As wedding cakes?? Nuh uh.... as birthday cakes, most definately!!
28I think something geeky is definitely better than the traditional. Something to remember and talk about...
29If people are having theme weddings anyhow, I don't see this as far-fetched as others.
30All of thes are adorable!

the nintendo cake would be an awesome and fun idea for a groom's cake!
32The Mario cake would make an awesome birthday cake. It looks so amazing.
33the mario and nintendo cakes are so kickass!
34At my wedding a month and a half ago, we had a traditional wedding cake, but the groom's cake was Han Solo frozen in carbonite from Star Wars. It was a surprise for my Star Wars geek fiancee, and he LOVED it. I think it's great that the guys get to have something like this at weddings, because everything else tends to revolve around the bride and what she wants.
35loves it. people getting to be themselves is the best part of weddings.
36OMG I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEEEEEEEEEEEE THESE! that mario one.. omg.... AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
37I got married last year twice: one party in Brazil (i'm Brazilian) and one in France (my wife is French). I'm addicted to internet and computers, and my wife is always begging me (well, I'd better say ordering me) to leave my computer.
For the wedding, I ordered special toppers that reflected exactly our relationship. Although it was not a geek party, all the guests loved the toppers, both in the Brazilian and in the French party.
