I have a lot of friends who are distraught about the news that Pandora may be going under due to overwhelming royalty fees. The popular Internet radio service doesn't just stream music online, but becomes attuned to your listening habits and creates customized stations for you. I love Pandora for an alternative to my own music library, so I'd be disappointed to see it disappear however many imitators there may be.

But Pandora's not my only Internet music service that I enjoy; I have a few stations that I'm partial to when my play list doesn't cut it anymore. Never mind whether you still listen to old-school AM/FM radio anymore — do you listen to Internet radio?

I only listen to Pandora because it allows you to discover new music.
1I have listened to Pandora, but I prefer Last.fm because it keeps track of everything I listen to and I'm a geek for charts and things.
2
WHAT!?! I can't believe that Pandora is going to be no more! It was the BEST. It
kept track of the songs I gave thumbs up to and was always on the money with the music suggestions.
3I like Last.fm better too (woohoo charts!), but my fiance is addicted to Pandora.
4I'm a fan of blip.fm (http://blip.fm) - like Twitter with music.
5Pandora definitely helps me find great music
6I love Pandora, and I'll be sad to see it go. I love last.fm too, but it's more for graphic listening trends than finding new music.
7i'm a huge fan of AOL radio. however it has been going through major changes. it was initially connected to XM radio, but that has since ceased. it's still pretty good...
8i love pandora but i also use imeem, which isn't streaming radio exactly but provides the kind of effect. i will miss pandora if it goes under but i wondered how they even made that profitable. if music companies where smart they would let them play the music royalty free. i discovered quite a few people off my playlist that i went on to purchase.
9I like Last.fm better because you get to discover international and underground artists through similar artists from your playlist. I also like how you can listen to what other people are listening to that are on your friends list/ in your neighborhood.
10I use slacker.com because I can customize my radio station to play all the artists I want (and ban the ones I don't want). I use the lastslacker bookmarklet/mashup to scrobble to my last.fm feed. Love it!
11I dont know what Pandora is... i assume some sort of internet radio service? I use Itunes, though, and I do love listening to internet radio through that....
12I listen to Pandora a lot while online.
13I haven't listened to internet radio in years and have to say I'm the network police when it comes to my clients listening to it. Nothing takes down the speed of the internet faster than an office full of creatives all streaming music and watching youtube videos. I hate being the bad guy *sigh*
14I listen to the radio at SonicJive.com - it is all indie music and really solid stuff. It's free as well.
15Pandora was great til they got sued and had to make it USA only.
Dont really listen to any other service, its usually poor quality or only available across the pond!
16Oh wow...that sucks. I listen to Pandora on my macbook and iPhone. I also use Last.fm.
17I am a big big fan of internet radio. There is a Mac app that lets you keep track (on Last.fm) of what you listen to on Pandora. So I use that for the best of both worlds!! I've really gotten back into using Pandora, and I will cry the day it goes under.
I was thinking that they could
consider making it a pay service, maybe a couple bucks a month? Do you think that would deter too many people?? Any way to keep it alive...
@Macgirl - At my old job we had a rule about not listening to streaming radio during work hours. The programmers would get angry because it took them years to upload and test code when the network was so bogged down... teehee. At my new job, one person will usually have a station on and the rest of us listen to it. Its nice when we all have similar tastes in music.
18I listen to Pandora and I adore it! Love that it helps me discover music. It's usually spot on, too. Really hope it doesn't go under since I haven't really found a better alternative.
19I love Pandora. And I listen to my college's internet radio station, and I've got a weekly show on the station as well.
20I love last.fm. We can't get pandora in the UK.
21I do listen to Pandora, Musicovery and some of the iTunes radio stations when I'm bored with my iPod.
22All day at work and even on my mobile when I have a wifi connection. Radio around here sucks, seriously. The station I listen to most is swanksocityradio.com. Great mix of music and DJs.
23I'm an online radio DJ so of course I listen to it.
24http://justiceradio.net
It's mostly tuned for gamers but it's a lot of fun.
There are a lot of DJ's who display a variety of music.
So it's definitely worth a listen if you have time.
musicovery.com is also a nice one
25i listen to a stream of my favorite radio station from where i grew up (philly area) all day long at work. it plays through itunes. i know they've struggled a bit with royalties, but they are a "commercial-free" station through UofP and take pledges, which i contribute regularly.
i don't know what i would do without them! i love the bay area, but there's not another station locally that appeals to my musical tastes like wxpn (it's VERY eclectic).
26I listened to Pandora for awhile and totally forgot about it until just now. I typically listen to the radio via iTunes. Does that count as Internet radio?
27I listen to internet radio so I can listen to my favorite radio station in the morning.
28I'm definitely a fan of Last.fm
29i like last.fm better
30I love Pandora. It exposes me to all sorts of new music that I never would have found otherwise, which I end up loving and then going out and BUYING the song from iTunes. Too bad Pandora doesn't get a kickback for that!!
31Yes, but not too often. Usually I use Last.fm
32yeah I love internet radio. I listen to pandora and last fm but my favorite was always radio indie pop. My sophmore year, one of my teachers introduced me to it ( i graduated in june) and it was always what i fell back on when i got tired of my music collection. the sad thing is that it also went under earlier this year.
33I'm addicted to streaming. I don't know what I'd do at work without last.fm
34It's ashamed that the greed of the industry forces somebody such as Pandora to basically go under. Plain and simple - people are not going to PAY to promote overpaid artists. We don't mind the commercials. We deal with that and don't whine. Limiting us to 40 hours, well, you just lost a WHOLE lot of your base there. With Shoutcast and HUNDREDS of other means to find music, get real and change your business model. You DID have a good thing going here, and through the use of commercials and we-based advertising, it probably could have been made to work. Thinking we're gonna feed the greedy industry kitty more, well, we're smarter than that...
