It describes the point of "realism" an animated character gets that is well...creepy in our perception. Cartoony is better in some cases!

I've heard this term used for stuff besides CGI and robots, too - I think it can also apply to mannequins and dolls and such, which would explain my intense fear of Chucky until I was 17...
