Let's just say I tired of Dane Cook's shtick sometime around 2005, but his recent rant about Photoshop put him back on my geeky radar.
The actor/comedian ranted about the photoshopping and general artwork for his new film, My Best Friend's Girl, basically calling out the shoddiness of the work and how differently it portrays his own looks and the feel of the movie.
Usually we notice runaway photoshopping of females, like Keira Knightley's blown-up chest or the lightening of Beyonce's skin, so it's interesting that a male celebrity is up in arms.
Choice complaints of Cook's list? "They should have called Donnie Hoyle and had him give a tutorial using "You Suck at Photoshop" templates." And "It looks like I'm wearing Maybelline Water Shine Diamonds Liquid Lipstick."
You be the judge; as Cook says, his skin has been smoothed to an unrealistic porcelain finish, but is it worthy of Photoshop Disasters?

It IS a really crappy promo....
1He complains too much about the poster. No big deal.
2yes!!!!! i never liked him before, but this is true and hilarious.
3i'd be more upset if i was jason biggs and they did THAT to my EYEBROWS....
4He's right, the poster looks totally sh*tty.
5It does look ridiculous but I think most movie poster do. I remember that the Legally Blonde poster had Reese Witherspoon's waist photo shopped down to nothing. I think the Chihuahua had a bigger waist than she did. It is all getting to be too much.
6he just needs to get over himself
7it lop
8yea it does look BAD!
9Meh. I've seen much, much worse Photoshopping.
10yeah it is pretty horrific and dane is hilarious. i'd be pissed if it was of me, wouldn't you?
11His smile was totally liquified too. If you can tell a picture has been photoshop, it's a bad job.
Anyone see the movie poster for the Traveling Pants sequel; it is worse. You can tell that the girls faces were pasted onto the bodies.
12Is that a real lipstick line? If so, I'd be more afraid that he knows the name of the lipstick then embarrassed about the photoshopping.
13More than anything, I find myself slightly impressed that he knows of Donnie Hoyle. Then I go back to disliking him, and thinking he should stop complaining. There are worse photoshop jobs.
14Anyone heard of this movie before his famous rant went up? I think this is his way of promoting the movie.
15Oops. I was a tard and accidentally posted my comment. Thank you chubby fingers + iPhone. What I was trying to say earlier is:
Yes, it looks obviously photoshopped. All movie posters do though. It sounds like he's a spokesperson for Maybelline... I don't know if that's a real product, but it certainly sounds like one!
16Guy needs to stop complaining and THANK those digital artists who photoshopped his bad skin away. I've never been a Dane Cook fan, but the guy is just not that good looking. Having watched him in hi-def, it's very obvious that he's got really bad complexion. Like TidalWave said, he needs to get over himself.
17DEFINITELY!! I'm so sick of hollywood churrning out crap posters for their movies. So few are actually good these days. And bad photoshopping is the worst. What's sad is that as a graphic designer myself, I doubt the fault lies with the designer. More likely the "marketing" head who thought this looked freakin' awesome and the poor designer who followed so he/she can continue getting their paycheck
18He's right, it is a pretty painful photoshop.
19his rant made me laugh out loud when I read it yesterday and totally made me interested in the movie...job well done on his side, we are all talking about it how
20It does look a little weird...
21That rant was so funny I snorted! He has a point. He just wants a realistic portrayal of the movie to attract the right people. It looks like a sweet romantic comedy, but the way he is talking it's more of a hard core comedy like wedding crashers.
22Publicity stunt! Not sure if it was planned or not but if it was...be ready to see another poster out soon.
IMO it's not the worst photoshop I've seen but it's definitely more flawed for something that everyone is going to see. For something that is trying to promote another.
23He's working on the movie, I think he should have say on how it's promoted, and honestly that ad is kind of half assed....
24Publicity stunt for sure!
25Self-deprecation that he and the studio can turn into ticket sales. My guess is that someone (maybe even Dane himself) came up with the plan to do this.
Goal achieved.
