Oh boy. I spotted this Internet addiction test because I was um, surfing the Internet, and oh my, is it illuminating! Provided by the Center For Online Addiction, the addiction test is just a quick battery to see if your constant refresh button finger is anything that needs to be taken seriously.
And doesn't everyone agree with "How often do you fear that life without the Internet would be boring, empty, and joyless?" OK, so maybe not joyless, but my quality of life definitely would have been diminished if I'd never seen Justin Timberlake's SNL mother-of-all viral videos. Not to detract from the seriousness of the issue, though, so take the test if you're curious. I'm curious about how many people it confirms an addiction for, especially since an Illinois facility is offering rehab and China considered it so bad they opened a Summer camp. To see what the test told me, just read more. "You are an average online user. You may surf the Web a bit too long at times, but you have control over your usage." On that note, I think I'll take a snack break. Talk to some three-dimensional people.

"You are experiencing occasional or frequent problems because of the Internet. You should consider their full impact on your life."
I don't know about that...
1Ditto SweetnLow. 63, heh. The internet helps me with so many things, though! It helps me happily procrastinate AND get my work done.
2You are an average on-line user. You may surf the Web a bit too long at times, but you have control over your usage.
3I'm just average, which is what I figured. Don't get me wrong, I surf the internet when I should be working (ummm... like now?) but it doesn't interfere with my sleep/life.

5"Do you fear that life without the Internet would be boring, empty, and joyless?"
Although I"m positive this test will tell me I"m an internet addict (and I agree), I actually think my life would be better without it sometimes. I really do have a love/hate relationship w/ it. Some days I wish someone would just take it away, because I don't have the self-control to do so.
Any good, real-life tips for becoming less dependent on the internet?
6average here too! it's the first thing i do when i get home. but i actually have a social life. the internets just help me share that life with others.
7Average. I got a 30.
8average here...26
9Good, I got a 31. Average.
10Scored a 36.

Travel somewhere where you won't have easy access to the internet. Bodhigaya, India is nice for that.
On the other hand, don't come to Hong Kong if you want to shake an internet addiction. We have free wifi at just about every government branch office and also some shopping malls.
I don't think I answered some of these the way they intended:
Q: How often do you find yourself anticipating when you will go on-line again?
A: Rarely because how can I anticipate when I'm hardly ever off-line?
Q: How often do you try to cut down the amount of time you spend on-line and fail?
A: Rarely because I rarely try
Q: How often do you try to hide how long you've been on-line?
A: Rarely because I rarely get any crap about how much time I spend on-line.
Q: How often do you feel depressed, moody, or nervous when you are off-line, which goes away once you are back on-line?
A: Rarely because I rarely spend enough time off-line to get depressed, moody, etc...
Honestly, luddite stuff like this test makes me roll my eyes right out of their sockets. "Oh noes! Technology will doom mankind! Why can't we all go back to simpler times? Like the lovely simple times when someone with a computer would have been burnt at the stake for witchcraft!".
There'll always be people with addictive personalities, and "internet addiction" is sure as hell far less dangerous than gambling addictions and drug addictions. What if people are using their internet time to brush up on current events and expand their knowledge? So what if, for some people, their life on the internet is more fulfilling than their "real life"? The only reason that might seem "weird" and "abnormal" is because things didn't use to be this way. And things didn't use to be this way because the internet didn't exist.
Strictly speaking, it's pretty "weird" and "abnormal" that we have lightbulbs. Humankind have lived for centuries without lightbulbs. Why aren't people more concerned about our terrible addiction to lightbulbs and have more knickers in a twist about limiting our use of lightbulbs?
Of course the authorities don't like the internet. People connected to free flows of information you can't completely control is the last thing you want when you're trying to run a totalitarian regime. You can try to filter a lot of the internet, but it's so vast and ever shifting, you can't possibly catch it all. So what else can you do? Put those pesky internet people in a camp.
If you don't see me after this, I'm probably at camp.
12My husband worries about my "problem" with my sugar rss feeds. He says it's almost like a full time job to keep up with them. He's being slightly silly of course. I do however like to have viewed them all for the day before i go to bed. Otherwise they double by the time I have to check them again. With 5 sugar site that can be like 100 post a day
13I scored a 55, true dat
14I'm kind of afraid to take that test.
15I think if too many things are lacking in your lifestyle because you're online all the time, then you might be addicted to the Internet. I like to check in on Pop at least once a week, like on the weekend. Combined with my usual rare surfing on the Internet, then I still would not say that I'm addicted.
16I got a 24. I'm way average.
17OMG average with a 45 ^o^ I thought I would have been worse
18I scored a 55........... maybe I need to reevaluate my time on the internet........................ nah.
19I got 49.
20Although I may not be addicted to the internet, I have a felling I'm addicted to my computer.

You are experiencing occasional or frequent problems because of the Internet. You should consider their full impact on your life.
Well, this has gotten worse since I've been living in Saudi...there's really not much to do here.
2985.......wow.I knew it
30"Your Internet usage is causing significant problems in your life. You should evaluate the impact of the Internet on your life and address the problems directly caused by your Internet usage."
I'm sure I could blame most of this on school, but I'm pretty sure most of it is my fault.....
