Since PetSugar had noticed the controversial portrayal of pit bulls in one of the commercials for LG's Dare, I began recalling the other commercials for the Dare, like this one where a Jessica Simpson-lookalike risks life and limb to get her Dare back from a ledge.

Since LG has begun giving their products cheeky names (many of them so similar to Alfred Hitchcock film titles that it warranted a quiz) and the voice over for these ads says sexily, "Dare You To Touch One" with its "bold features" and "fearless design," it seems like the company is reaching far into its bag of gimmicks to appeal to a young, hip audience (like they did with Lauren and Brody in their Shine commercial) by seeming edgy.
I'm not so sure that the controversy of the pit bull commercial was unintentional, either (thankfully the commercial got pulled); I mean, here we are, talking about it, after all. Juxtapose these ads with Apple's commercials, which, though they rely on catchy songs, the product is always the star — like in the MacBook Air commercial.
But you be the judge: after seeing these ads are you intrigued by the Dare? Do the ads influence your buying habits at all?

The commercials don't make me want it but from what I've read it's a pretty hot phone and LG are pretty good. I'd rather have an iPhone though.
1they piss me off. i just sit there frustrated at the actors thinking 'you ran all the way over there to touch the damn phone, why dont you pick it up?"
2I think they're kinda funny. Of course that doesn't make me want to own one (smart phones are the only phones that make me tingle).
I still don't really understand the controversy over the guard dog commercial though... Guard dogs are suppose to be vicious
3no the problem was that the dongs were pitbulls, and the commercial stereotyped them as vicious blah blah blah. people are too sensitive. i didnt even know what breed they were, nor did i care.
4I hate these commercials. There's edgy and creative and then there's just plain ridiculous. These commercials are the latter.
5I don't mind the commercials, because they are just hype, like all commercials. Even the macbook air only said it was skinny, no other specs. When I buy electronics I always do a lot of research online first. I do appreciate getting exposed to new music though
6the phone's ok. not the best lg phone. i don't like the commercial, it's ridiculous. i would've taken off my damn shoes before getting to the phone!
7the commercials are annoying, and the phone is subpar at best, for what they tried to make it. Definitely not something I'd be enticed to buy.
8I can't stand that damn commercial. The whole time I'm watching it I can't help but yell at the television, "Why are you wearing a dress and high heels on the ledge of a building, stupid!? Take off the heels and then maybe you won't fall off the dang edge." Ugh!
9honestly i had no idea what the commerical was for, whenever i see it all i seem to catch is some blonde girl walking to the edge trying to get something and something happens with her shoe. doesnt grab my attention at all.....
10i wanted the phone even before the commercials started coming on tv. they don't influence whether i want it or not. (which i do, btw.)
11Northoffantastic, I was thinking the same thing. Like, "Damn, girl, if you're going to do something stupid, you should at least put on something with a nonslip sole."
But then again, if she fell, I guess that would be Darwinism at work. Kind of. In a commercial. But you know what I'm saying here.
12she's supposed to be daring... wearing heels on the edge of a building...hence the name of the phone...lg dare. btw, I saw a girl with it at a baseball game and it I likey!
13i hate the commercials because you don't see anything about the phone except the start screen. i want to see how it works in the commercials and they don't give you that. losers.
14EvilDorkGirl, LMAO. EXACTLY!
15The commercials are pretty out there and it helps me remember the product, but I wouldn't buy a product just based on the commercial. I would have to test it, read reviews and think about it, especially before I bought a new phone. I use mine so much I need to make sure I love it.
16I thought the commercials were ridiculous. I didn't even want the Dare til I saw it in person. that's the only way I can decide if I like something or not...
17Those LG commercials are pretty lame. They don't make me wanna buy one. Dare me to touch one? Not if it's sitting on the outside window ledge on the top floor of a 50-story building. I think not! I'll get something that is less trouble.
18(like they did with Lauren and Brody in their Shine commercial) by seeming edgy.) .. .. This was AT&Ts commerical, not Verizon Wireles
For the record yes the commercials are pretty lame,(nno the manufactor, but the cell company) but the point behide the commerical is that the customer goes and looks up. it to make you wonder and ask "LG DARE?" if they try to sell it to you like normal it wouldnt be as interesting. Compared to just going to learn about it yourself.
19@aprilfashion28, I feel the same way. Commercials on T.V. don't really make me want to buy something. Seeing it in store and testing it out and reading online reviews does it for me.
