Starting today you can add some color and flair to Google's personalized home pages. You'll get the choice of six fancy panoramas - a city, a teahouse, a winter scene, a sky, a beach and a bus stop - that change depending on the time of day and the weather. If you add the beach theme, for example (changes with time of day), it will ask you for your Zip code and adjust itself to match your local sunrise and sunset times.

You can add a theme by first setting up a personalized homepage. Once your homepage is set up, click the "Select Theme" link on the right-hand side of the page. From there you can choose between the classic theme and the six new themes Google has designed. A giant thanks to calamari for sending me his personal page...I've been trying to make one for hours and have been timed out. Seems like it's the thing to do today.

These themes are SO MUCH fun. Another unique attribute is the characters in the Asian scene (above) change what they are doing, moving around the screen throughout the day. Plus, the entire page changes color to complement the changing sunlight colors. It's beeeaautiful!
1AWESOME!! I'm going to have so much fun with that!
2So much fun!
Style Before Comfort!
3Ooh snazzy! Thanks for the heads up.
4Mine is a beach and when I set it to beach, it asked me for my zip code so it could set the beach scene to something similar to a beach near me!
5WOW ^_^
6Going to have some fun with that hehe xs
I set mine to the beach too!
I love how the positioning of the sun and the sky
correspond with the time where you live!
Very cool feature!
7What? I the only one who's not getting this option? Theme options are nowhere to be found on my personalized google page.
8TO: luminousfae
Look for some type that says "new SelectTheme". It should be next to the "Add Stuff" button towards the top of the screen.
Some other friends of mine were also having trouble with this last night. Is anyone else having problems?
9I am calamari. I chose it, but, now to scroll up or down i have to double click the arrows instead of just clicking. Plus, i had the google logo on random, and now it seems to me stuck.

Why don't you wear the face you have when I am not around?
I keep hitting refresh but nada
I see where I have the "add stuff" option and I see where the
option for "select theme" should be from the screencap in this post but it just doesn't appear for me. Hopefully in time.
11I am not getting this option what so ever.
Thats sucks!
12Wow! These problems sound weird. Things are slow at my work right now, so I am going to do a little research and try and find some answers.
I did just read that if you are using anything other than google.com (google.ca - in canada, for example) than the theme option isn't available.
But before I bog down the comments section with possible solutions, I will try and find some other answers. Maybe we can meet later in the teamsugar forum, rather than just posting comments back and forth.
I'll let everyone know if I find anything.
13My Google homepage is a part of my daily routine --- I stay on top of blog postings, weather, news, etc. --- so I love that they introduced nifty themes!
The sun on the beach theme is a little out of synch for me but it's still pretty!
14I'm set up
Thanks... this'll be fun!
15Hi Everyone,
Sorry, I couldn't find any definite answers, but lots of other people are having the same problem.
There are similar comments over at wired.com, but no real solutions yet:
http://blog.wired.com/monkeybites/2007/03/google_homepage.html#comments
They mostly just suggest some typical things to try:
logging in & out of your account, clearing your browser's cache, etc...
I contacted google about the problem and will let everyone know if I get a response.
16Thanks for staying on top of this calamari and please keep us posted!
17Brrrrrillian Idea, am so going to try it now!
18Good idea geeksugar!
19thanks for the research calamari
20I noticed problems when I first used it in firefox- when I switched to IE it worked fine. A day later, no problems.
21I sent this to GeekSugar but I also found this today: http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2007/03/easter-egg-in-google-personaliz...
22I finally heard back from google about the problems that many sugar users were having getting google themes to work.
Not much help I'm afraid. I pasted the text from the email below:
Thank you for your note. You can find our online help content for themes at http://www.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=63162
Please keep in mind that our themes feature is currently only available on Google.com with your interface language set to English. We hope to expand our homepage themes feature in the future. If your friends are using Google.com in English but don't have the "Select theme" link in the upper-right corner of your homepage, please be assured that we're aware of this problem, and our engineers are currently investigating. We hope to have this fixed soon.
Regards,
The Google Team
This sounds like the problem that luminousfae and some of the other users were having. So I guess they are aware of the problem and are looking into it. Hopefully it gets fixed soon...
23Did mine and it looks awesome...I did the beach scene...that is where i wish i was all the time...
24Guys, this is the coolest part of gmail. I used to live on the beach in Miami, and now I recently moved to Chicago - no ocean - but my google home page helps, especially in the morning.
25i've got it! but there's this annoying gray box that says "To rearrange your page, drag and drop the title bars." does anyone know how to get rid of it?
26nevermind i got it!
27Hi chiccox3

28I love it! The random flickr pictures are so cool, and I picked the cute tea house as my background. Thanks Geeksugar!
