For the past two weeks friends have been sending me emails wondering if I upgraded to the new iPhone 3G and how much I like it. They wonder: "Should I get one? Is it worth it? How much better is it really?" It just dawned on me this morning: They're jealous! They want to upgrade, but just haven't committed. Having experienced all the diehard fans in the iPhone line on the 11th the envy is perfectly understandable. I'd probably be suffering myself had I not sprung for the new model.

I upgraded and wish that I hadn't:) I had my old one hacked with TMobile prepaid, so my bill was uber cheap. The new ones? I have a brand new $100 phone bill each month...ick!
1I usually try to find something I don't like about the upgrade, oh well the this is that and that stinks! LOL. However I didn't have an iPhone so I now have the new one and love it!!
2I think the word jealous has some negative connotations. While envious is close to jealous, I think I would be more comfy using that word. I think you can be envious and still be happy for your friend. Semantics I'm sure
3I have the LG enV and love it. I don't really have a need for anything more, and besides, AT&T's network is awful compared to Verizon. ;p
4My friend has an iPhone and I have the Blackberry Curve and he swears I'm jealous. Yeah, not so much. I love my Curve and I love my service so switching does not sound like something I'm interest in. If I wanted an iPhone, I'd totally buy it. Now the Macbook Air, that's something that might get me jealous.
5I'm a Mac girl and I can't wait to get the new iPhone. But I'm glad I have to wait (no AT&T or MAC stores near me this summer) so they can get the bugs out of the MobileMe system. Wish I could use my Verizon service though.
6i buy the toys i want based on my own desire to have them. i don't care what others have. usually. i was obsessed with the ipod before i got it, but i like to take my time snatching up gadgets.
7I will admit it. I am! I have one and I got back and forth on whether or not to upgrade. I guess part of me feels like I have no reason to upgrade that I should save that money especially given the economic times. But I also love gadgets and want the latest thing.
eeeekkkkk!
8i don't think they're jealous when they ask if they should get it and what's good/bad about it. maybe just curious. they want to know those things before buying it just so they know what they're getting into. i'm considering getting an iphone myself but not too sure if it'd be perfect for me yet. so, i'd like to hear the opinions of those who already have it, first.
9Does it count if my friends don't have it, but it simply bugs me that a better gadget is out there and I can't have it (because I know I shouldn't blow my money every time a new upgrade comes out)?
I have a macbook and a Nikon D200, and they work perfectly fine for my needs. But I do have some serious macbook pro and Nikon D300 envy. But I'm aware that there'll be other upgrades down the line, so as long as what I have is working, I should just save my money and not get something new until it's really necessary.
I have some iphone envy, too, but I don't envy the expensive monthly bill. I'll stick to my three year old Samsung flip phone and pay as you go sim card, at least for now.
10i agree with looseseal. its not friend gadget envy. its just the fact that its out there and i can't have it NOW. i am by far the most tech geeky of all my girlfriends. i will be getting the iphone, just a little more down the track, after i've payed off my nikon and ipod. i just can't to get my hands on it!
11Not to sound completely arrogant or whatever, I'm usually the one who does get all the high tech stuff first. I'm really into gadgets and use a smartphone for work. all of my friends love my phone but are still using Razrs or whatever. I know a lot of them can't afford to upgrade, but most of them just don't care....
12I'm the one who has the upgrades
13Update: I no longer have the envy. I got one of my very own today -- 16GB white. Ooohhh so lovely!
14It doesn't sound like your friends are jealous. It sounds like they're smart - asking to see if the 3G is truly as fast as Steve Jobs said it would be - now that so many people are using the device. Or if the GPS works well.
Who wants to shell out $200 for just two updates (neither of which is video) - unless they're solid?
15i rarely get upgrade envy. i'm they type who gets a gadget after it's been through a couple of versions, all the kinks have been ironed out etc... i can be very patient
16What is upgrade envy?
I'm usually the first with a new toy, although I don't think
curiosity and questions about it are necessarily jealousy.
17I. am. so. sick. of. hearing. about. the. iphone.
And it's not because I'm jealous. I just don't think that it's that big of a deal -- the upgrades are relatively minor.
18I have the old Iphone and would love an upgrade, but I am afraid when I finally get one, the new iphone will come AGAIN!!. I am waiting for the new red one christmas.
19oh yes. but not too much...i'd go crazy, since apple is always coming up with newer versions!
20unless the iphone comes out in some sort of.. slimmer version, i will never buy one. theyre huge and ugly.
21By the time I ever finally buy things, something new comes out already! I've been contemplating a blackberry all year already.
