As adorable as I find Asus's EEE PC and Everex's Cloudbook as dreamy and light as a MacBook Air, I just have no need for an ultramobile PC. The Air has more memory than the two former petite PCs, but its lack of an external drive exempts it from ever becoming my main computer. As nice as it would be to travel with a tiny laptop, I couldn't leave my full-size, powerful laptop at home.
And now, with news that the latest mini laptop is a $240 paperback-sized laptop by CherryPal, the big manufacturers are starting to worry about the low costs of these PCs threatening their big machines, and in turn, their livelihood. That is — if everyone can get into them. But as of right now, they don't have to worry about me, because I'm not ready to give up my mondo storage and speed. What about you? Are you ready to switch to a teeny tiny computer?

hecky naw. there is a such thing as too small. i'm a writer and i need to be able to reread what i wrote just a few mins ago. this would be too much scrolling. and i gotta say i like my power and speed and cool extras!
1I like the idea of having a super small one for traveling or sitting outside and other such things. The convenience would be better then having a larger laptop. BUT I'd rather use my 17 widescreen for everyday use. Wouldn't give it up.
2Definitely not as my main computer, but I'd have it as a backup computer for traveling.
3I always wanna take my laptop when I travel, but I never do... I usually fly overseas and I worry that I'll be so jetlagged I'll lose it, or have it stolen or something... plus, altho small, it's a heavy little bugger.
But this would be perfect for the plane! Between that and a good book, 8hrs would go by in no time!

4I'm holding out for a small dual touch screen one the size of a paperback for all the quick things I would like to do on the go: read, IM, check email, set appointments and reminders, look up word definitions, surf the web, update my blog, play games, and take pictures.

6No, but maybe my next laptop. I'm trying to move to cloud computing so i don't need so much storage on my machine and can just access what i need from various devices.
Still not there yet though.

8The current offerings are a little short on the features I really want, and a touch too expensive... but MAN, do I ever want one. I'm tired of a 6 1/2 pound laptop, and a laptop will never be my main computer anyway.

MSI Wind-sized keyboard (EEE's is a little tough to use)
SSD (Flash disk)
Linux
Under $500 (preferably around $300)
I feel like it's within reach...
9I kinda want one but I think the macBook is small enough and the OS can't be topped linux. I mean linux is fine and all but for a surfing notebook os x rocks.

Just like star54 said; not as my main computer, but I'd definitely like to have one to have my most important files sync'd and be able to work on them anywhere.

I already have a MacBook and I find it a bit cumbersome to carry around. I am so excited for something even more travel-friendly.
12I would LOVE a small laptop to bring with me to classes and whatnot, but not even a regular sized laptop can replace the importance of a desktop to me. Especially since I'm a gamer, PC's just pack more power at a lower cost and therefore are more college kid friendly, in my opinion anyway. I'd love to know where I can get my hands on the 240 dollar laptop though... Any word?

15The ultra-portable ASUS U6E, powerful but only a little over 3lbs. It's a great machine and stylish too.
Definitely not into the small computers, iPods, cell phones, or other gadgets. I like me hunky, powerful stuff that I'm not too worried about bopping around.
16sounds like these should be marketed like "capri" cigarettes! perhaps great for kids and women who have smaller hands. i have to adjust each time i switch from my big-old laptop, but it isn't a huge problem.
also, i just got back from traveling across the country with mine and i'm telling you airport security was WAY better than with my wide-screen HP mega laptop.
i used to have a lovely little macbook something-or-other several years ago...this is even better because i can bang it around without ruining stuff.
see...i'm a fan of figuring out how to make it work, and now that wear and tear has been relieved from my hulking beast that treats me right design-wise...HOOOORAY!

18I have several computers, none of which are my "main" computer. The closest one I have to this size is my 12" powerbook, but even that is too heavy at times. The idea of having a computer that small with a full keyboard for times I'm out and on call is tempting, when I only need SSH.
19Nah, I don't want such a tiny laptop. I'm quite happy with my MacBook. For me it has the oerfect travel size, though it's too heavy at times. especially when I abandon my car and travel by train...
I'd only want a tiny laptop if it's as powerfull as a "grown up" laptop.

21Its cute and tiny but I'll probably use it for downloading vacation pictures and surfing the net while waiting but other than that I like my full size notebook.
22I want a mini laptop so bad it's not even funny. I would only really need it for web stuff and I can remote control my work desktop so I'd have all the stuff I need there. We have a regular sized laptop that my husband uses and if I were as tech savvy as he is maybe it would make a difference to me
23I like the idea of a true handheld UMPC, like the ones Microsoft made look so awesome and cheery in one of their commercials. Where did those go? I would like something I could toss into a purse, but not nearly so tiny as my iPhone.
24i have a sony vaio tz series, which is one of the tiniest laptops you could find. it has an 11" screen and weighs about 3-4 pounds. it maybe small, but it is so very powerful and was rated better than the macbook air. (at least mine has an external battery and a disk drive) i love my tiny sony vaio! i never have any problems with it
25Wouldn't it be hard to read things like news stories on such a small screen? It's easier for me to use my MacBook.

29If you only need to surf the web and check your email, there are plenty of smartphones that can do that. But it's not enough for me because I need to be able to run programs like Photoshop and Illustrator on the go.

31I have two EEE pc's (one linux and one with a bare xp install) and I absolutely love them. Coupled with a verizon card, I'm pretty much connected anywhere I go. Due to the price and the SSD, I don't worry too much about it's safety as I would if I was carrying around my MB or Vaio. These laptops are great for surfing the web and when you need to access and accomplish things quickly. Not meant to replace your full-size laptops or desktops at all.
32i wouldn't mind one to be used just for internet surfing in bed, checking emails, and taking notes in class.
33It really just depends on the PC itself...
34I need something fast, but I'd love it if I could throw it into a backpack... or whip it out to write notes in Word really quick and then backup to a flash drive.
