When someone asks for my email address, I have a quick debate: work email or personal email? Before, it was school email or personal email? Now with all my social networks, I feel like I have a million other inboxes to check too.
Over the years, I used to switch email carriers as well; I had Hotmail when it was hot, Yahoo when I got sick of that and I remember how fancy I felt when I got invited to Gmail. I probably have a smattering of email addresses in my name that I'm not even aware of anymore (I am a total deadbeat).
What about you? How many email addresses do you currently have?

About 4.
1st is my primary address for friends and such.
12nd I use on my resume.
3rd is if I sign up for anything.
4th is for a fansite I run on myspace.
4 here
21 is for graduate school, 2 is my undergrad alumni address, 3 is my personal email using my maiden name, 4 is my personal email using my married name. It'll be down to 3 once I finally get everything switched to the personal married name email address.
I have my own domain for personal email, so I theoretically have an infinite number, as I can choose anything I like before the @ sign.
All those different addresses are redirected to my gmail account, so they are all in one place.
This is really useful, as when I sign up to a website, I put in something identifiying the website in the bit before the @, and if I start getting spam at that address, I a) know who sold my address and b) can easily block that specific address.
It's also easy to filter emails this way too.
Lastly the best thing is that gmail can be set up to send mail from any address you can prove you own. This means I can reply to someone that emails me on a specific address from that address, without my gmail address appearing.
3I have many email addresses, but two inboxes as they reroute to the domain I use with google apps. I never give out work or alumni addresses to anyone who isn't part of either, and I create new email addresses for almost every service I sign up for. That way, if I get spam, I know who resold my email, and I simply delete that particular address.
4Hmm... six.
One personal
One old personal which was retired (but is still linked to some accounts I use)
One for signing up for things, blogs, forums, etc
One for resumes
One for things I feel will generate a lot of spam
And my school email.
All except for the school email, of course, are Gmail. (ps I totally felt special too when I got invited way back when
)
5Three.
1. personal
62. work - only ever use it for work
3. 'spam' - for if I sign up at random websites / forums and I don't want anything tracing back to my personal info.
Three.
71. personal
2. school
3. work
1) Work email.
82) Personal email for serious stuff.
3) Personal email for not-so-serious stuff.
4) Ancient Yahoo email for registering for internet things.
5) Business email.
6) Ancient Hotmail email that I should really delete but haven't.
i have way too many email accounts. but you have to have multiples for all those stupid signups you have to do that will lead to spam and then you have your personal, your work, business (personal domain) and your industry email for all those blog posts! it adds up. oh, and don't forget the ancient hotmail account you had in college. haha.
9Four
1. Work
102. Personal Gmail
3. Yahoo email for people who visit my website to contact me
4. Hotmail email for signing up for potential spam
I've lost count. when we set our website, we got all the combination of my nickname on all the sites we could think of. but I only use 2 of them.
11I've lost count. when we set our website, we got all the combination of my nickname on all the sites we could think of. but I only use 2 of them.
12I have over 12 email addresses. One I check several times a day. Some about once a month, the others every 2 to 4 months. I have ones for different sights or my multiple usernames on some sites. As well as an email just for spam stuff (used when I have to give an email to view something online).
13All of my emails are now gmail, I used to have a paid yahoo! account but I liked my free gmail one better.
Four or more.. but sadly can't remember half of them! Primary would be school though, like you said yours used to be.
141. Personal
2. Work
3. Sorority Alumnae
4. Sorority Alumnae Chapter
The upside is I only use the first two on a daily basis. The others only about once a month.
15one for work, one for subscriptions and one for family and friends.
16Work, personal, personal business and social. I actually had 3 more, but got rid of them because they weren't being used.
1711 currently, also have the ability to make an infinite number of aliases since we manage 3 domains of our own.
1. main work
2. work address that I don't check on iPhone (subscribed to mailing list)
3. main personal
4. personal for spam
5. my address on major client A's domain
6. my address on major client B's domain
7. personal domain
8. family domain
9. gmail for stuff I don't want to see every day
10. earthlink- no longer use but ex husband uses an address on my account- need to transfer to him so I can cancel my account
11. used to be part of my free .mac subscription, now part of family pack and used for work demo's of .mac/mobileme
All but two come to my mail application. 5 of them I check on iPhone.
18I got my very first aol screenname when I was.. man, I can't even remember. But in the present, I have three. I still have my old aol screenname, which I use mostly for spam and for registering stuff, and another one for mainly communication with friends. And then there's my school email.
191 - hotmail : this was the first email address I ever had so I keep it active for messenger purposes and in case someone from my past contacts me through it. Check it like once a month.
1 - Yahoo: Used to be my primary for shopping, school, personal, etc until I kept getting too much spam. Still check it like once a month and use it for messenger.
3 - Gmail: one personal, one for shopping and one that is a misc. that I use when signing up for forums, blogs, contests, etc.
I also have one for work which I only use for work.
20Oh, I have sooo many. Some I don't even remember. LOL
I have 5 main ones that I use though:
-work
-personal/junk
-personal friends
-personal family
-newsletters
I have been trying to condense. I have my own domain so I got carried away with email addresses at one point.
I'm trying to get it down to only 3 total.
21I have a bunch. I have a hotmail that I used for myspace but it's dead now and I don't know why.
I have 2 gmails. One is my main personal name and one is a backup.
22I have two Yahoo accounts (one old and one that I use every single day) and gmail which is my "consulting" account and checked throughout the day. Oh, I also have a family gmail account that I use but it's rare anyone emails me there. While I do participate in a variety of social networking sites, etc. I stick with either my primary Yahoo or Gmail account. Why? Because it's hard to remember more than 4-5 email accounts, your username and password AND to check them regularly.
The most important thing is to NOT use your corporate email for personal correspondence, social networking or web surfing. Seriously, there are so many free accounts it's pretty lame if you are still using your corp email to send out crap.
233
24- one for junk mail and misc. sites
- one for personal
- one for favorite sites
i have so many... lol
25Well I have yahoo, aol, juno, and gmail. I have gmail so I could just use it for crap I don't really care about and my juno was set up by my dad because he made one for my brother and sisters. My yahoo is my name and I use it for school and now my aol is because I'm getting sooo much mail from my yahoo I thought a new email address will help so I can get certain things in order.
26I used to have more than 4, but it got really troublesome to maintain all of them regularly. So i deleted all except 2, the hotmail one of which is for MSN, and the gmail one which is for heavy duty stuff. The novelty of having so many kinda died off, and now I feel it's better for all my email to be centralized.
271. Gmail-primary
2. School ( was mainly used for school and registering on facebook when it was just for college kids)
3. Work
4. Yahoo
5. Gmail *resume email*
6. Gmail * newest one*
I used to have 3 other hotmail accounts, years before gmail, but after reading this post, I deleted them (finally!)
28wow 11 I think totally has me beat, but just barely:).
3 main ones:
1a- yahoo- personal
1b- hotmail- registrations (any websites and also brick and mortar retail)
1c- gmail- email discussion lists
4. work
295. alumni
6. current school (and since I also take online courses along with regular on campus ones, with their setup I have 2 emails, the regular school one and a separate unrelated address with a different inbox within each online class environment, which I think is a massive PITA)
7.gmail- resumes/professional associations
8.gmail- art commissions
9.online portfolio community
I have several. One for work, the other for friends and family, and web e-mails for junk mail.
30Just one for signing up for stuff, school, etc.
31I'm sure I have like 7 or something.. but I have 3 that I actually maintain.
1) hotmail I've had for 6 years - personal stuff
322) gmail for signing up and semi-personal stuff
3) mandatory yahoo..
1)Work: Yahoo account 1, connected to work domain.
2)Personal main: Yahoo account 2, which is now amazingly 11 years old and was spam free until fairly recently...damn you, World of Dorkcraft.
3)Personal old: Yahoo, don't use anymore.
4)Gmail: Hooked up to use in future, maybe.
5)Hotmail: Don't use it, just have it for MSN purposes.
33only one
343!
1) my work/school e-mail
352) my personal e-mail @ gmail
3) my e-mail i use for junk-mail or random things i'm signing up for (and for msn)--- hotmail.
well,i have 2 but one of them i forgot the password.so yeah just one.hahaha.
36more than 4 - 2 different school ones, a spam account, my main account, a voicemail account
37I have more than 4.
38One is used for online shopping, one for discussion board (like here), one for official things (bills...), one for friends..... Sometimes I do think it's a bit ridiculous but now that I have this habit...
1) My primary e-mail (comcast)
2) My secondary e-mail (gmail)
3) My work e-mail
4) My ancient e-mail (yahoo)
5) My so-ancient-that-I-should-delete-it-soon e-mail (hotmail)
6) My website e-mail
P.S. macgirl, I've never seen anyone with 11 e-mail addresses! wow!
39I have:
40Yahoo
Gmail
One for my business thru GoDaddy's Web Hosting
Another Yahoo one
1 Professional
412 Friends
3 anything@mydomain that i use when i sign up for stuff.

42AOL

NO GMAIL... MAYBE I SHOULD GET ONE
7 and I need to get rid of half of them I think!
43yahoo
aol
gmail
3 work
hotmail
Not to mention the various inboxes on the social sites like this.
I want to get back to the day I had 1
1. Yahoo!
442. My Work
3. Hotmail for MSN messenger
4. One through my internet provider
I am sure I have others.
literally, hundreds.
I use a new address for every place I have to register, that way I know where my spam is originating and who sold out my information. But you need to be able to manage your own email and mail server to accomplish this...
myspace@somedomain.com
45youtube@somedomain.com
digg@somedomain.com
cnn@somedomain.com
etc

i have at least 6... i dont know why i have soo many... well yeah i do but i don't have it all down to i use this one for this.
i check 4 daily and the others are old
48About 11
I have too much to check out !
49I have been online a lot longer than most people and changed screen names a lot over the years, when I did I would go claim my screen name at any domain I was interested in. So I also literally have hundreds but not for the same reason as Liembo. The vast majority of them I log onto maybe once or twice a year. There are really only two that I regularly give out and basically only one that I use. I have a gmail account that is my name and I give that to people I know in real life or on my resume. I do use the actual gmail from time to time- but I have it forwarded to a yahoo mail that's a screen name so I can go through all mail at once and because Yahoo has unlimited storage.
