The writers of the whip-smart Jezebel blog revealed their home office workspaces last week, and what I was most pleased to see was that they almost all use Macs. I have worked in offices where we used all PCs or all Macs (guess where I was happier?); in fact, I became a Mac convert after being exposed to them in an office setting.
It can be hard to have to use one when you're used to the other, leading to more calls to IT, frustration, and sometimes, switching teams. What does your office use?
I use a Mac and probably will never ever use a PC ever again!
My current office uses PC as most of them are the traditional "programmers" but I'm a Mac user. I just have to use a PC at work.
.
I work from home, and I use a Mac. When I worked at an office environment, I used a PC. My work place got their computers from Dell, because that is what they all were. It was never frustrating for me because I know how to use both Macs and PCs, but I prefer Macs.
MEhhh... PC at work.
We have a few macs for web stuff, but that's not my area.
All Macs!
I'm in a creative field so it's more common to use Macs. Thankfully so. I know how to use a PC pretty well and prefer Mac.
I work from home, and I usually use macs
I have windows, linux and bsd boxes around
though, in case I need them.
we're IT for a very large company, we all use PCs.
Like glam sugar, I work in the advertising/design world, so I live in an all Mac office.
In our office, both. But I've got a Mac at home and a PC at work ... I love my Mac but sometimes I get momentarily confused and frustrated switching between them.
We make Windows-only software, but we all use Macs. We have a few PCs areound for testing purposes, and most of us have Parallels installed for Windows programs.
My "office" (lab - I'm a scientist) uses Macs, and I HATE HATE HATE them. Loathe Macs. Hate them so much that I bring in my own PC laptop everyday. And I love pointing and laughing at everyone when they show up to do a presentation to the department and all their images in powerpoint show up as blank boxes because their tiff files haven't converted, or they can't upload their posters to print to the network. Haha!
It's funny, at my office we all use PC's, but our boss uses his Macbook! I wish he would spread that love to us...
PCs
It depends on the dept. The art dept uses macs, while the rest of the company uses PCs. I know it's probably different for people at home.
I do tech support for a software company, so I have two XP PCs and a spiffy new Mac at my desk. Most of our techies fear and loathe Mac. But not as much as they revile Vista.
A 386 running DOS and a Pentium I running WinNT. The NT system is online. It worries me terribly.
(Course, I don't work in an office.)
For the most part we are a Mac place (we transfer audio so the macs are a must). We do use a few pc's for some programs that won't run on mac.
My office uses a both PC (linux and Windows) and Macs. As an windows IT guy I prefer windows PCs for most users as they are easily controlled via group policies, WSUS, and software install policies. It's also much easier to use PC's because of drive imaging software (there may be a way to do this with Macs but I haven't seen or tried anything yet).
I have always used a PC at work and a Mac at home.
At work I use a PC but at home mac. In a perfect world, I would be working off of a Power g5 with cinema display. Trust me, it would make the day so much better:)
we had Apple mac's before but it was harder for our IT people to maintain so when they changed the computers, they decided to go with PC's
Both! Macs for my area (Design work) PC for every other one.
Both.
PC. I've never worked anywhere that uses Macs.
i prefer pc's. i hate macs. they are designed to break down after a couple of years
oh.. i didnt answer the question: PC'S DEFINITELY. mac doesn't have the capabilities of doing what the company needs to get done
I work at a bank so naturally we use PC. My first exposure to MACs were at the school computer lab, and I took such a liking to it I even converted my little sister to it. I plan on getting a mac laptop in the near future.
We use both. MAC for all our creative stuff and PC for all of our data stuff and (unfortunately) for PowerPoint.
My office uses both. Unfortunately, the computer assigned to me is a PC. I've been a MAC girl for several years now, but at least using a PC at work keeps my skills in check.
All Mac. Most of my clients are all Mac although we do have a few that just have tiny Mac departments in a sea of PC's. I'm a bit impressed that this poll isn't as PC heavy as it would have been 4 years ago. I think you will see this being even less of an issue in the next 5 years.
Mac at home, PC at work. Do you know how much more productive i would be if i had expose.. I calculate a loss of 10 seconds for every 5 minutes of work finding the right window out of my 25 open windows for a total of 16 minutes per day. Now if I had spaces I would be in heaven. One space per client!
My office is not cool enough for Macs, I guess.
We have both Mac and PCs but I don't go near the PCs.
With the exception of accounting, we're pretty much all Macs. They have become the film industry standard. I'm totally Mac, posting this from my 3g iPhone.
we used to be split, some departments had macs, some PCs. thankfully i've always been on a PC. now they're making the switch to PC only. mac is too expensive and PC's are better for our programs, adobe, word, etc.
We use Windows. You can't run AutoCad, Microstation, Revit, Act!, or anything else we use besides office on a mac.
PC's at my office but at home it's a mac. I sometimes get confused at work when opening a program or closing it out.
both! the creatives at my job use macs (including me, phew) and the programmers, accounting & admin people use pc's.
i've had macs since the very beginning (my first computer was a mac in '84). i'm a designer, and have had to work on pc's at one job in my career. never again.
My school system has Macs. Hundreds of Macs that are so outdated they can't even run OSX. Macs with USB ports that can't support a flash drive, but that CAN run an external floppy - maybe. Macs with CD drives that can't actually read the CDs. Macs that still have Netscape installed as the only internet option because they can't support any newer browsers.
Not that I'm bitter....
I carry a PC laptop with me to work so that I can get something done.
I work in a PC environment but our IT Manager uses a macbook pro.
My school exclusively uses Mac (especially for music classes), but I interned at a company that only used PCs and I nearly slit my wrists. I know how to use a PC well, but there were so many problems with the computers, that I was very unproductive. If I can help it, I won't use PCs ever again. Unless it is an emergency, of course.
We are a MAC loving workplace. Before I started I had a respect for MACs but after working with MACs for nearly 2 years, I feel in love. I actually don't even know how to use PCs anymore, but I am okay with that!
I use both at work and I have a Mac at home.
i dont have a 'real" job yet but i hope when i get one its A MAC..i want one sooo bad.
i dont have a 'real" job yet but i hope when i get one its A MAC..i want one sooo bad.
everyone else in the office uses a PC, but I get to have a mac. I'm that special... and a photographer.
we started off with pcs then switched to imacs. oh how i miss it. haha. i hope i get a mac at my new job
Thanks God, my office uses PC!!
I use PCs at work and have a PC laptop at home, mostly because it's more affordable than Macs (in SA, at least).
Doesn't mean I don't want a Mac for personal use, no sir.
