The Rolleiflex Mini Digital Camera is about as vintage geek-meets-modern functionality as you can get. It's a 5-megapixel camera, but it looks its 1920s era German namesake.
I'm thoroughly charmed by the Rolleiflex, especially the up-facing display that lets you shoot without the camera and the hand-lever crank, and how cute it looks around your neck.
But $400 for a 5-MP camera? Is it a justified price for novelty?
How do you feel about it?

I love it! Too bad it's so expensive.
1I saw this on Monday on OU online and thought that it's absolutely adorable and I love it...but there is no way I would get it. It's a little too pricey. $400 for a 5MP camera is a little steep. I know most people who get it are probably looking at it as more of like a fashion statement than at it's function. But if I did have $400 to spare, sure I'd get it. I love gadgets...but esp ones that look this cool, but unfortunately I'm not made of money. :-| So I'll stick to my boring old camera that I already have.
2Adorable and being the camera/photography nerd I am, I would love to have it... but it should cost 1/2 or LESS than that.
3Geesh $400 bucks is steep but I still love it!
4It's super cute! But, it's a bit expensive.
5I think it is cute! But I'd rather have the real thing - we collect old cameras, and the Rolleiflex is one of the few that I LOVE but do not have yet.
6It's crazy expensive for just a 5mp camera, it's true. But it's so unique and stylish!
7I've been wanting one of these since I first saw it on gizmodo a little over a month ago. It's steampunk chic!
It's too expensive but sooo cute! I love it.
8i love it but it's only 5MP! wtf is that
9I love it! it reminds me of a simpler time...(sigh)
10Love it, love it. Definitely love it
11wah! why so 'spensive?? is it the materials? is it the features? if there isn't something else great about it, it's too silly to shell out an extra $200 or so just for the laugh.
12That is so cute!
13it's a step backwards in more ways than one!
14Guh. Too cute. If only I had the money. Could be a cute steampunk accessory :<</p> 15
it's cute ..
16I'm always tempted by UO's novelty cameras, thank god they're a bit pricey otherwise I'd have a closet full of 'em
17I love the camera but I'll leave the price.
18Man that is so friggin cool. I would snap that up in a minute but the price makes me want to hurl. AND the first time I tried to take a picture in a dark auditorium and the "autoflash" went off making everything black I would snap! I hate autosh*t! If I wanted the flash on, I'd turn it on. Same with the red eye remover and stabilizer and all the other crap that is bundled on modern phones that is a pain to turn off.
19i am in love with this camera. a bit pricey but really tempting
20Very cute indeed, but I really like my current digital camera and it was at least as expensive..so no way would I dump it just for the cute factor of this one.
I have purses to buy!
21cute!
22it kinna cute.but i would'nt pay $400.
23I think it's cute, but I wouldn't pay the price.
24If it had more MP, I'd be all over it.
25I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!
26Especially its a vintage style i love it even more!
Rollei missed the marketing mark with this endearing little jewel. It should have been a recreation of the best camera I ever owned, the "Baby Rollei" which I received for Christmas of 1960. It used 127 film which made slides that mixed with 35mm and were so impressive, my slide show at the annual high school father/son banquet in 1961 launched me on a 45-year career in photography. In 1976, I bought a 2.8F which I used for weddings until 1995 and this miniature is an excellent trip down memory lane. It's a shame it's too small to be usable and can't fire a flash or be set on manual. Hopefully Rollei will learn from this and do a professional-grade digital recreation of the 2.8F...or even the 6008 which I wasn't able to acquire before the dawn of the digital age.
