I have many fond memories of rocking out hard core with my pals with Guitar Hero until dawn. Since it was the first of its kind, it will always have a place in my game loving heart. But things change, and so do my obsessions. Currently, I bust out Rock Band every chance I get. It's the ultimate party game, and I don't remember life without it. Maybe that's going a little far, but it's seriously that awesome.
With soon-to-be-released Guitar Hero On Tour taking it up a notch and coming stocked with a drum kit and microphone, we're about to have a full on battle of the bands on our hands! But until then, tell me: Which is your favorite rock game to play these days?

Even though Guitar Hero pioneered the genre if you will, Rock Band offers to let me sing if I want or play bass if I want or drums if I so desired! Variety is the spice of life. Besides there is SO much more DLC! ROCK BAND!!
1I'm an avid player of both, but I really enjoy Rock Band because it feels so much more interactive somehow. The customization allows you to really feel attached to your character, and seeing my name on the side of a bus is the coolest thing ever.
2I love Rock Band! I get to live out my rockstar fantasies haha, and those change from guitar to drums depending on my mood so it is good to have options.
3I say I'll stick with the company name. Harmonix is the original company that came out with Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Then Activition bought the brand Guitar Hero from them and didn't really come out with anything original except updating it with new songs. I just really like Rock Band for letting the player personalize their rocker. I don't really care for any of the characters on Guitar Hero. Harmonix all the way!!!
4Gotta be rockband all the way! my daughter even recognizes it in the store
and when
a song comes on the stereo that's from it she drums in her carseat... "Hey Ho let's go, mommy!"
5I am still waiting for Country Guitar Hero. There could be some killer Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and others on something like that! I like GH, but I am not fond of many of the song so I don't get as much pleasure out of it. If there were country songs my wife would have to unplug the thing on me just so I would talk to her.
6I love playing both pretty equally. My kiddo enjoys watching me play Guitar Hero more than Rock Band for some reason, loves it actually.
7rock band!
i love the drums.
8Both games are great and they both have their pros & cons... Lately I came to the conclusion that I can't play Rock Band on my own, it defeats the purpose of the "band" and it makes me a little sad when my friends are not around to join me (most specially my boyfriend when he has had a couple of drinks and decides he should be singing ^_^)
9Also Rock Band is not a game you can easily take places so if we want to play everyone has to head to my place...
i love the drums on rock band even though i'm TERRIBLE at them.
10Guitar Hero, because I played the drums for 12 years (majored in percussion performance in college) and the Rock Band drums frustrate me to no end.
11I choose other. WiiFit is the ultimate party game. Especially hula hoop and ski jump.
12I've not played Rock Band, but I SOOOOO want to!
13Once rock band goes wireless on the 360 I'll be sold but for now I'll stick with Guitar Hero.
14Rock Band ftw!
15Rock Band is my favorite of the two, because I get to be the lead singer, while my shy fiance plays the guitar.
16Neither, really, but if I had to choose I'd pick Rock Band. I can't play Guitar Hero at all since I used to play guitar and my fingers fight against the controller design. At least I can play drums in Rock Band (I'm way too shy to sing), but there's significantly less satisfaction in striking Rock Band drums.
17Rock Band is hilarious! : )
18I don't have enough friends to play Rockband
19Rock Band, because you can SING!!!
And because you can hella customize your person.
20rockband!!
21Um, both, duh!?!?! So at my house, we have -- are you ready for this -- GH2, Rock Band, and American Idol for the 360, and GH3 for the Wii. We're getting GH: On Tour when it comes out too. My husband and I are totally into being fake musicians. He's freaking amazing on the plastic guitar, so much so that he won us round-trip airfare in a competition. And I dare anybody to top my singing performance for "More Than a Feeling" or "Maps".
The only sucky thing is that my 360 is broken. AGAIN. This will be the 3rd time I've had to send the piece of crap hardware back to Microsoft. So typical of MS products... I really wish they would put as much into quality assurance as they do into development.
22I love them both... but I enjoy Rock Band more because you get a whole group together to play.
23I like Guitar Hero a tad bit more than Rock Band but either is fine for me.
24Nic likes Rock Band more so we play it more often than GH
"I can't play Guitar Hero at all since I used to play guitar and my fingers fight against the controller design."
25That's the first time I've heard anyone who plays the guitar/bass say that... I guess it works different for everybody *shrug*
Where is the 'Both!' option?!?!?! I love (and own) Rock Band and Guitar Hero.
26Rock Band all the way! :] Guitar Hero 4 is going to be just like Rock Band, though. So I'm gonna have to try it out.
27i like both, but i like rock band more...lets me practice my drumming skills which need polishing since my actual drum kit is a piece of crap.
and they have more songs i like.
28I don't know very many people that prefer the latest version of 'Guitar Hero' over 'Rock Band.' We have also owned every single GH game and often two versions of the various games across both 360/PS3 platforms.
The last GH game did so many things WRONG. I hatehateHATE the face-offs. That part really irritates me. And I hate the character models - the lead singers look creepy. However, RockBand kept everything I loved about the GH series originally.
By the way, I hardly ever play RockBand with other people. (The drums are impossible!) As a standalone "guitar" rhythm game, I think RockBand still far exceeds GH. I hope Guitar Hero gets rid of the irritating components that they picked up for their most recent game.
29Rock Band...always. Rock Band, even if it is a video game, seems like it's so much more focused on the musicianship. Most of the people at Harmonix that developed the game are musicians and they take special care and consideration when choosing the songs to make sure that gameplay is fun for all instruments. Guitar Hero to me has always seemed like a video game and sometimes the songs are ridiculously hard for the sake of being ridiculously hard. Expert on GH is something that I wouldn't even attempt even if I play expert guitar on Rock Band. I am, however, interested in the GH4 drums because how hard you hit the drums will matter in GH (not sure if RB drums will have this feature). GH4 drums also have cymbals which is kinda cool. I may check out GH4 if the RB2 peripherals will work with it (I highly doubt it will) because I refuse to an excessive amount of drum peripherals taking space in my living room.
Rock Band has always been more of an experience and it has completely revolutionized the way I think about and listen to music. The game also has so much replay value...have you ever tried plugging in two drum sets and having tug of war in the same room? It's oodles of fun...I can't even begin to explain why I like to hear the matching sound of two Rock Band drums being played in the same room. Also, the fact that all my Rock Band 1 DLC is going to be available for Rock Band 2 (without re-downloading it) makes it all the more better. They also listened to a lot of the feedback they received about Band World Tour mode and having it available online. Plus, Pinball Wizard and Give It Away as confirmed tracks? Yes, please. Want now.
30Im a guitar hero fan but I must admit I have only been around rock band a few times
