With Apple's iPhone 3G set to make its entrance into this world next Friday, financial experts are already making predictions about companies that will be the biggest movers and shakers in the smartphone market over the next few months.
According to Electronista, a study conducted by RBC Capital Markets indicates that consumers looking to purchase a new phone are seriously eyeing up the iPhone 3G. Of the 3,600 participants in the study, only 35 percent said they would purchase a new iPhone back in March, unlike the 56 percent now.
Reasons why they changed their minds? The drop in price of the iPhone, the built-in GPS mapping, enterprise email and third party applications. Yes, yes, yes and yes, I know exactly what you mean! What about you guys? If you don't have an iPhone, are you now thinking about getting one?

iPhone looks alright, I guess, but it's no match to the superior texting giant that is my Blackberry!
1Ace texter then? You might find yourself pleasantly surprised by the usability of the iPhone's virtual keyboard. Its finger rather than nail input means less chips and is amazingly quick to use once you get into it. I personally don't mind typing long messages on it. Written on my iphone.
2I have an iPhone, but I won't be upgrading to the 3G. The data plan for 3G will cost you $30 per month as opposed to $20 per month for EDGE.
I love my iPhone. I tried using my father's blackberry once (responding to his emails for him while he drove) and found it very clunky to use. I don't think I could ever switch to a different phone unless it had the same easy to use UI.
3Nah -- the contracts make it too darn expensive (Minimum $76/month here with taxes and system access fees -- never mind that they say $60).
If I could buy it outright and use it on a prepaid basis I'd DEFINITELY consider it -- especially since I'd mostly use the web stuff over Wi-Fi. iPhones are pretty awesome... but I like to own my stuff, and I definitely DON'T like to be locked in to a service.
Besides, OpenMoko and Android are on the horizon.
4I would love to own the iPhone, but seeing as I'm a poor grad student, the large bill alone is a reason alone to desert any desire for one. I'll keep my Voyager with Verizon, until I make it to the big time and can finally get one.
5I'd get an iPhone, but I'm addicted to my Blackberry.
6I don't know, I think there's a lot of hype for the iPhone, but I'm not really impressed with it as long as it's only offered through AT&T. I have AT&T and they suck.
I'm planning on getting one, especially since my Blackberry Pearl conveniently kicked the bucket last week. The only hesitation I've had is that I do text and email a good bit, and in the small amount of time I've had to play around on my dad's iPhone, it's been a little frustrating. However, he and pretty much everyone else I talk to, like the above comments, swear that you adapt to it in no time and that afterwards it's just as fast if not faster than push button phones. For now though, it does bug me how frequently I slip and hit the wrong letter.
7I just spent $500 on a Nokia camera phone.
8Me no get 1. Me with Sprint on cheap ass SERO plan. I prefer poking rather than touching.
9i recently got a blackberry, much to my mac-fanboy boyfriend's chagrin.
10I want it, but I just don't think I can spend the money.
11I want one, but I have a T-Mobile contract. And then I think about how my fees would go up with AT&T, and, enh... too lazy.
12I've test driven the iphone, and just cannot get into the virtual keyboard. I like my BlackBerry.
13bahh. i hate iphones.
14i'm getting one because i have att even though they definitely suck. but i love the iphone and since the price is less i can do. the data plan is too pricey though
15ugh, agreed bellasugar. tmobile better get into gear and get some sweet phones soon tho, i HATE that they don't have refurbs.
16upgrading my iphone to the iphone 3g, i can't wait!!
blackberrys just have too much unneeded stuff in 'em for me
17yeah i am going to wait in line at the apple store with above proclaimed apple fan boy; he claims his iphone isnt working as well as it used to because he "uses it too much". whatever; but our 7-11 will consist of iphone obtaining, free slurpees, and hopefully spamalot.
