Ah, finally the freedom to switch your SIM card from phone to phone has arrived with the white "unlocked" Palm Centro smartphone. This tiny and extremely light cell also includes Google Maps for mobile with the fabulous My Location feature. With My Location you can easily get directions to various locations in proximity to your current location on the map. . . Trust me, I use it on my Curve and it's a total lifesaver! Just visit Google Maps Mobile on your Palm Centro for the free My Location download.
The unlocked GSM version Centro is available for US customers and costs $299 from Palm.

it's a cute little white phone. but since a carrier contract is a forced marriage, i don't see the point in buying an unlocked phone. unless of course i didn't have att and wanted an iphone.
1Wait, so are you saying it's unlocked but we are still forced to be on a contract with them? *confused
I thought they were just selling it unlocked with no strings attached?
2I have the black one and I LOVE IT! And thank you so much for the google maps thing. I just downloaded and installed it and it's awesome!
3I don't know how I survived without this phone. I use Google Maps all. the. time.
4i'm wavering between this phone and the iphone. any recommendations???
5fyi, the new 3g iphone coming out, "starting at 199.99US" is attached to a data plan and you will not be able to buy it out unless a third party unlocks it and ebays it, ect. So basically it's 199.99 on contract like all other phones out there.
Because I've never owned a palm or even played with one - I'm not sure if it can live up to what my Blackberry does for me, or the iPhone for my friends. I would definetly like to try it though!
6chubstaaa, normally unlocked means you can put it on any carrier you want... but you generally are still locked into a contract with that carrier, unless they allow a pay as you go service. I owned an unlocked Palm Treo 650 (which I paid $650 for the privilege) but was able to use it on T-Mobile as they didn't carry this phone at the time (not sure if they ever did carry it). I've jumped ship with unlocked phones before going from Cingular to T-Mobile with a little Sony Ericsson.
