The latest news from ComScore reveals that Facebook is beating MySpace worldwide for the first time. I've been trying to figure out why, necessarily, in terms of why people choose either site to social network.
I myself have profiles on both sites, as I signed up for a MySpace page in 2003, and when Facebook started, when it was only accessible to those with school emails (which I didn't have anymore and was a little turned off by that requirement), I waited awhile, but eventually caved since I had friends on Facebook (which is why I still begrudgingly keep both profiles). What about you? Are you supporting Facebook or MySpace with your usage?

I use facebook more now then Myspace because it is easier to stay in touch with people and not slammed with ads and spam. I think eventually I will just delete my myspace account.
1Facebook. I don't know anyone on MySpace.
2Neither. I just can't get into it.
3I have accounts on both, but I've been using Facebook more ever since I signed up, only because of it's more user friendly interface.
4I deleted my accounts on both. Too much wated time and drama. The people I want to keep in touch with have my number, email, and/or address...
5Facebook, since it allows me to keep in touch with the friends I've met in the four different cities I've lived in. A lot of things wouldn't have been possible without Facebook - not even though email or letter writing. I signed up to Facebook back when it only had a very, very small picking of schools to choose from and I liked its exclusivity. MySpace is just too open and I had creepy people sending me posts/messages all the time and couldn't seem to filter them out. Plus I hate the layout and design of MySpace.
6I use both. I like the added features of facebook. Myspace is rampant with 13 year olds. Blech!
7I have profiles on both site, I prefer Myspace though because you can customize it better while Facebook has all those apps which I honestly never get the point of. Either way they are both great fro keeping in touch
8Facebook's interface alone is much more manageable than myspace. I never liked myspace anyway, but after all the spam and people's accounts getting hacked into (mine included) it's just not worth it.
Facebook's privacy settings are amazing! No one can find me, no one can find pictures that people tagged with me in it, and i can even make exclusion lists withing my friends! I love that!
I realize that myspace just got a makeover, but I clicked on the "friends" nav link thinking I could go to all my friends, but I couldn't - "find friends" took me to the entire myspace network! i just wanted to browse my friends. Which is what I get when I click on the same link in Facebook. It is just much more intuitive.
Unfortunately, I hate the facebook applications since they make pages too crowded and noisy. And i'm also perturbed by removing the school email address requirement - but i guess it's not too bad.
Facebook just does it was does much better.
9I don't use it as much as I used to, but it's a cool way to see what's happening with people I know without having to spend all my time calling people, etc.
10I only have Facebook and that's just because one of my nephews invited me. I do like it, there's some fun games/applications.
11I'm with darkangel2305 on this.
12I have profiles on both, but I don't have internet access at home, and both of those websites are blocked here at work, so I can't actually get on either site.
13I have both, but I use facebook more. I use Myspace to keep tabs on my cousins.
14both, but i'm getting really REALLY bored with both of them as well. i was an early adopter of both, so now they just feel played out and overdone.
15I used to have both now I only have MySpace. I prefer it over Facebook because I like how you can modify your page, Facebook only has the apps you can add to your page which I don't like. I really think both of them are kinda lame but for some reason I still long onto Myspace daily lol
16I have never had neither.
17I use myspace more!
18there is way too much spam on myspace.
19i used to be a massive myspace fangirl then it became dominated by spam and alot of friends accounts were being hacked.
I eventually caved on facebook and now rarely go on myspace; if ever only to see how non-facebooking friends are going.
I really just use facebook, though I have a myspace profile from when my a cappella group got a myspace page and I figured I should have one to direct people towards the group's page.
As for facebook, I'm determined to use it for good (instead of evil!), that is, getting connected with old friends, setting up groups/events that will get people involved with things (like our alumni association, or helping undergrads choose a major).
so yeah, I have a myspace account, but I actually do things with my facebook account.
20At first when I was on myspace I loved how you could customize it. I gave myself a plain colored background and links and everything that fit within the color scheme, and I didn't put pictures or anything up. Unfortunately, I was the only person I knew that did that. Everyone else had about 5 million pictures and these really loud, obnoxious backgrounds and it took forever just to load their page.
21So when I switched to facebook, I was like okay I can deal with everything looking the same, because I can actually see it! And now all my friends are only on facebook and it's just a lot easier and nicer to use.
i started using myspace as a mktg campaign for an ad agency and i use facebook to keep in touch with all my college friends. i was annoyed when they opened it to everyone! but i use both to keep in touch with people i actually like. all of my family is on myspace.
22I use Facebook, Twitter, Blip, Behance, Coroflot, mitwit, last.fm, pandora, Flickr, Fotologue, Hulu, WePlayThis, BrightKite, retaggr, and del.icio.us whew!!!
23i have accounts for both but i only really use myspace to check out new music.
24I use MySpace only.
The reason being that all my friends and family are on MySpace, and it is a great tool for keeping all of us in touch.
I just put what I am doing, and upload videos and pics so that everyone can stop in and see what I am up to at their leisure. Much more efficient than sending out 20 different emails or making 20 different calls where I have to explain the same things 20 different times. A REAL time saver!!!
25Facebook just doesn't seem as sketchy..
26I can't honestly say I use either although I still have a facebook account from my undergrad. When I found about myspace I decided that I was too old for that stuff. Now my facebook is unattended to while high school trolls are coming from the woodwork trying to "friend" me prompting me to stop visiting facebook.
27I definitely prefer facebook. I love being able to limit who sees what information. the apps are getting a little annoying, but most of my friends aren't into those either so I don't have to deal with ridiculously long pages(yet...).
28I use MySpace only, mainly to stay in touch with a few friends from back home. I haven't established a Facebook account because I'm wary of their collection of personal data. And (unless this has changed recently) it's an enormous hassle to delete a profile. As someone who's concerned about privacy, I just don't trust them.
MySpace has its issues, but with the way I use it I've never had a problem.
29i have both but dont really use facebook. i started on myspace and dont like facebook as much. i only have a few friends on facebook and i love the bands on myspace, keeps me up to date on what they are doing and where they are going to be playing.
30I've had myspace and facebook profiles for years and they have never held my attention long. In the beginning, it was because there were very few users on either site, and now it's because I have other methods to keep in touch with my friends. I keep them around though, since I don't get spam from either site (I have notifications turned off) and a few of my friends only use one or the other, or both, for social networking.
31silent vamp: i am extremely surprised by your criticisms of facebook.
They have always allowed you to "deactivate your account" just as myspace has. you can also opt out of the collection of information in your privacy settings.
Also, i don't know anyone on facebook who has had their account hacked or profile spammed.
32I use myspace, but only because we had to sign up for it at work. I keep in touch with high school friends on there, but I don't blog on there or add photos.
33I've got both, but I've never used MySpace much. First it was because I definitely prefered the LiveJournal way of having a community, and then it was because the layout at Myspace was bugging the crap out of me.
I prefer Facebook, because it has a cleaner layout - fewer ads - and I can hook up with people I've lost contact with under their real names, and not have to try to guess their screen names.
34I hate MySpace. I tolerate Facebook because it allows me to keep in touch with people back home and some of the tests etc are funny but it's getting more and more annoying and idiotic, like the recent "sell your friends as pets" and the "coolest person contest". Juvenile.
35Facebook. Basically everyone at my school has one and it's a lot more convenient (and easier on the eye with the minimalistic layout).
36I use both, but I prefer facebook for three reasons.
1) I hate the customized pages of myspace users. Most of them are designed poorly.
2) Facebook I think is more user friendly.
3) There is more to do on Facebook (i.e. applications).
37I use myspace to keep in touch with my college friends and facebook for work, since I work in higher ed. All my students are on facebook. I would be lost without facebook. I rather it than myspace any day of the week!
38I can't stand FaceBook. They're trying to get me to share my personal information with those aps every two minutes. I wish my friends would wise up to the scam.
39I have accounts on both. Facebook for my college friends and colleagues and Myspace for my family.
40I use FaceBook.
MySpace is very badly built. Absolutely unusable, rebarbative. I'ts my point
41I guess I am in the minority since I like Myspace better. I have an FB account which I rarely update.
42TidalWave, it's quite possible I'm misinformed about the deletion of the accounts. But I still don't like Facebook's data collection methods; it's true you can opt out, but that really rubs me the wrong way. I feel like this kind of collection service should be opt-IN. Just leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.
43Both but I prefer fb. THe only reason I kept my myspace is becuase a lot of my school friends stayed with it
44Facebook. Myspace creeps me out with all of the pervs that have been going on there. I feel more secure using Facebook.
45FACEBOOK is so much BETTER!!
I'm so serious about this subject haha. I've had it
since it started in like 2004, and I miss when only college kids had it, but oh well. It's still better than myspace; on there I have more friends that are bands or celebrities than my actual
friends, and I only keep it because my two sisters have that and not facebook.
46I find Myspace trashy.
47I started to have a Facebook the day after they announced Facebook for high school students. Then a month later, a childhood friend IMed me, asking if I had a MySpace. I hated MySpace, but I decided to start one so I did. I was on it mostly because my friends were into MySpace then. More importantly, I met my two boyfriends through MySpace (my ex added me and I added my current boyfriend, whom I've been with for a little more than a year). As MySpace became more creepy and annoying with messages from pervs, spam, advertisements, and typical teenage drama, I slowly moved onto Facebook when they introduced applications last year.
48I go on MySpace once in a while, while I'm on Facebook for two seconds to check my profile and my boyfriend's profile LOL.
i have both. tried to disassociate myself from face book after hearing about their iffy privacy policy. but then i got lured back some how and now i have found more people on face book that i ever did on myspace. i HATE the apps on facebook, HATE HATE HATE. but more people are there.
49I totally agree with darkangel.
It's so addictive. And also, (some) people are there just for showing off. Like, look how popular I am. How hot I am. How cool my house is. Look how hot my man is.. and so on
I've been many of those kinds of websites, NO MORE I say.
