Connect-a-Desk: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

The Connect-a-desk is not the first time I've seen a desk-free laptop desk — remember the Lindo wrap-around hip desk? That was voted "freakish" by a landslide, and ThinkGeek's version hasn't really made the concept any more palatable.

For 40 bucks, you get the ability to walk around while using your laptop, but for $40, you may suddenly not know yourself anymore.

It's not that it can't be useful — the question is really — is usefulness worth the price of your dignity? But am I being too harsh? What do you think?

Is it really necessary to walk and use your laptop? I mean aren't they putting padding on posts in england because people can't even text and walk without walking into things? Slow down people! find a seat and use your laptop.

I also can't wait to see how easy it is for someone running in the other direction to just grab it and run off.

It is really dorky, haha. But I can see how it would be useful for people who have to walk around yet keep checking back at their computer for work. Personally, if I want to walk around with a laptop, I just use my iPhone and connect with VNC.

I think it's too ugly and unnesecary for personal use. However, I can see how it would be practical for those who work in "outdoor" industries, such as construction or engineering, and wouldn't have access to a desk.

Eeww. Totally geeky! Besides, what's the use of it? Who would need to surf the web or take notes that badly? We don't even need our laptops for e-mail, some brief surfing or a quick note anymore. That's what BlackBerries and iPhones are for.

that looks so uncomfortable. i could maybe see someone using it if they were trying to do some things around the house.

this would be very helpful to those in certain industries, as in mine. When I've got four or five guys in a server room the size of a football field, and theres no desks or chairs, they need to plug in and run updates or make changes its ALOT better than sitting on the freezing floor to do so.

As far as walking around town with it :S I think the fashion police would be onto that one!!!

this reminds me of something the comic book guy wore in a simpson's episode. he was walking out of a movie & reviewing it at the same time, "worst movie ever!"

It's super dorky, but I can see someone using it as MisTerious82 outlined...never even thought of that!

I have to say I could find good use for this. Yes, kind of geeky looking, but functional in some industries.

who's that busy to not even sit down. It's a "lap"top, remember? It's supposed to be in your lap when you sit your ass down.
