Ew, Ew, Ewww! I've never been more grossed out or intrigued by a gadget that I've posted (oh wait), but this Electromagnetic Cockroach Expeller is giving me the severe heebie jeebies. Goosebumps are forming, and it is unclear when they will subside. Even the plastic cockroaches are freaking me out.
For just $25, the Expeller uses flashing lights to "drive" the bugs away (like saying "I love you" too soon?), rather than just killing them dead, like some other cruel-to-bugs gadgets I know.
I'm curious to see how annoying the lights would be, and if it actually works. I have great sympathy for anyone who has this problem — even though I've seen maybe one live one in my entire life, it will last me my whole life.
Shudder.

would that just keep bugs away from the sensor, erego driving them closer to me?
1These don't work! We have similar things and they're supposed to keep crickets and stuff away too, but they just hop on by like it's not even there.
2ahhhhh, if I had cockroaches, I think all my love for not hurting living things would be swept aside and I'd want them all dead. A flashing light would not be good enough for me!
3No no no, I want the cruel-to-bugs version please. If I have roaches in my house, I don't want them turned away only to snuggle up in my bed or some other place. Ick.
4with all due respect to the bugs, they have survived just fine for millions of years so i'm not feeling any shame in squashing them like the cockroaches they are! forget drive them away. i want them killed dead. precisely because they give me the hebe jebies.
5Flashing lights, sound makers, etc. They don't work.
At the plant I work at we have a pigeon problem. They nest up near the roof. So we purchased an audible repeller that would intermitenly broadcast the noise of a hunting bird of prey. Worked great at first. But the animals simply become conditioned over time to it being part of the surroundings and it looses its effectiveness.
6I live in NYC I saw two roaches, and then put two of these types of things in my small apartment and over a year later have yet to see another bug or rodent. Worked for me.
7I've never actually seen a cockroach for the 17 years I've lived in Canada. It's a different story when I travel though...
But seriously. If I had to deal with those things, I'd want them dead. I'm so terrified of them that I'd probably cry like a little b*tch if one came in physical contact with me. I don't trust a blinking light to drive them away. And I don't want to drive them away. I want to kill them. I want a cruel-to-bugs option, plzkthx.
