I always thought I'd go to my ten year high school reunion. It was just something you do, and my high school friends and I all dreamily talked at graduation of meeting back up when we were grown-ups. But something happened. I have absolutely no desire to attend.
The reason? MySpace. Facebook. The New York Times claims that the advent of these websites — which allowed us to stay connected, and updated us on what our old classmates were doing — has caused alumni magazines to suffer [1].
Why read them when you can log on and confirm that the snobby cheerleader never made it out of your hometown and now works at a gas station? And furthermore, why go anywhere to be in the same room, when you can snoop on everyone from the comfort of your office chair?
I already know who's married, who has kids, where they all work. Curiosity = satisfied. What about you?
