This has happened to me way too many times to count. My antivirus program expires and renewing it gets pushed to the bottom of my to-do list. . . leaving my laptop open to spyware, viruses, and a slew of other nasty security threats. Rather than paying the $60 - $100 subscription fee to install a new antivirus program, AVG offers a free program that won't bog your computer down like McAfee or Norton. The latest version includes spyware protection and an easy-to-use interface. Click here to download (Windows only!).

AVG and Anti-Vir are both wonderful anti-virus program and a million times better than Norton.
I've been using AVG since 2005 and it's FANTASTIC! I ALWAYS recommend this program to those who are ready to move on from Norton and others. Another GREAT program for removing spyware is spyware detector. it's fan-freakin'-tastic. Just thought I'd pass it on. Let's just say between the two of those my computer has not crashed, nor has it been infected with viruses......
I have three friends who work for Norton, specically on the Anti-Virus software. They use AVG on their home computers.
Pretend I can spell.
ehadams, that's funny. i've never paid attention to when my plan expires but i will download this tonight.
I thought AVG decided that they are no longer going to support their free version? We have been using this for years, but we heard through the grapevine and received notice from them that they will stop updating the virus database VERY soon, like next month. I hope they changed their mind, because I don't want to pay a buttload of money for a new virus program.
I discovered AVG about two or three years ago; I haven't used anything else since. It's not a systems hog, it's free, and it does a great job. I recommend (or rather insist and get all pushy about it) the program to my family and friends.
i used to use AVG but have since switched to Avast. Not sure about what *freegracefrom* said above about AVG no longer updating, but I totally recommend Avast in it's place.
I use AVG and Spybot, and love both. My only complaint about the newest version of AVG is that it prompts you to upgrade to a paid subscription and I haven't figured out how to turn that off, only remind me again later.
I used AVG for a long time, but eventually, I took it off, having discovered that it was the primary culprit of system bloat (I think maybe there's a memory leak in there). I switched to Avast!, which has an even lower profile, faster startup, and just generally is making me happy at the moment.
I concur- used it for about a year and love it.
Been using AVG for a few years and we recommend it to family and friends all the time.
Yeah, I think my AVG's been telling me something about "upgrading" and phrasing it to make me think it's no longer going to be free. Idk tho...
I recommend AVG as well. Since I installed it, my computer hasn't got any virus or spyware, and it had before! Plus AVG doesn't slower the system unlike other antivuruses.
