We all know escaping your cell phone contact can be brutal, but cell phones provide some serious (and obvious) benefits. They are portable, relatively inexpensive and most of them offer handy features that make your portable home phone look like a brick. I ditched my landline a long time ago because no one called me on it anymore and I always have my cell with me. Have you pulled the cord yet?

I still have a landline but my son doesn't. The night his grandfather died, I spent hours trying to call him from the hospital: he'd been to a movie earlier and had switched off his ringer and forgot to put it back on. I'm a fan of some form of landlines for emergencies.
We don't have a landline. We used to but nobody calls us there and we rarely use it. So it's useless and a money-waster. We cancelled it.
There is some business I'm willing to do on a landline that I am not willing to do on a cell phone. Making payments over the phone? Something I'll only consider on a call I initiated that I'm making not only on the land line, but on the corded phone.
On another note, we even still have a rotary phone in use.
A rotary phone - that's so cool! I don't think I've ever used a rotary phone, though I used to know people who had them. I don't have a landline at my place, but my family has one at home. I'm either reached via my mobile or work number.
We have a landline phone via the cable company, but we don't use it often. We have it hooked up to a fax machine and give out the number if we think there's a chance we'll get unsolicited calls.
Just realized my earlier comment sounded strange. We don't want unsolicited calls, but the fewer we get on our cell phones, the better. Whenever I buy something online and have to provide my phone number, I give the landline.
We take/make certan calls on our landline, and we also need it for our internet service (ISDN) and for our Tivo. We have satellite TV, though.
My new apartment will only run the door buzzer through landlines. So am I trying to decide if it is worth paying 30 bucks a month just so I can get deliveries..
I only have a cell right now. When I did have a landline, the only time it rang was when people were trying to get you to participate in a survey or get you to donate money.
I don't know if it's the same thing in the U.S., but I have a landline included in my Internet subscription : unlimited calls towards other landlines. Now I still have cell minutes at the end of the month because I use my landline a lot.
I had one in Canada but now we're in the process of moving to Norway and landlines are almost non-existent here in the Nordic countries. We won't be getting one. Plus, cell phones are really cheap to use here.
My family has one but we might as well not seeing as how we never use it or pick it up when it rings. It's usually always telemarketers anyways.
i keep a landline at home, because whenever we're trying to get a contract or a credi for a store they always as for that, and yes for emergencys it does come handy.
I have one but don't use it very often, just for local calls. All our long distance calls are from our cell phones.
I have to have a landline for my home security system. We still use it though from time to time.
My mom told me to keep mine in case of emergencies. Also, my apartment buzzer runs through my landline.
I have a landline.
We get barely any cell phone coverage where we live so its a necessity.
I still have a landline. Not sure why but it is just the basic service (no caller id or call waiting) and its only like $17 bucks a month so I just keep it around but rarely use it
i have VOIP but don't have a phone plugged in, as there aren't many outlets and isn't one nearby...plus it would have to be hooked up to the internet, and yeah - just doesn't work well in our space. we might hook it up when we move, though. i get the occasional call and it goes to voicemail. i get my voicemails in individual emails immediately, so since i am always near my computer if i am home, i can return the call right away. i use X-lite to make outgoing calls.
oh, yeah - i have the VOIP thing and no cell phone. i basically hate talking to people on the phone (and i don't find people very interesting in person either. heh)
Yep, still have one. Mainly because we have our fax through it too. But I use my cell the most.
as two college students living together, my boyfriend and i have no real use for a land line. we give our cell phones to potential employers. and since he lives over 4 hours away, for his parents to call on his cell is free (in network, you know) and if we had a land line, it would be long distance calling. so for us it is pretty pointless.
plus we move every 9 months or so... so it just isn't worth it
I want to ditch my landline. No one calls on it except for telemarketers or people actually wanting someone else. I really just need my cell because the only people who have the number are the ones I like to talk to.
No landline for me. Been without one for over 18 months.
I only have a landline so I can have my internet and dish. I never use it. I think my mom may have the number...
I got my first landline in three years recently. The T-mobile and Verizon service at my house is horrible and left me with no other choice.
I have a landline as part of my cable 3 service package (cable, internet, phone). But I don't give out the number -- I only use my cell. My mom is really the only one who calls me on the landline.
my parents wanted to get rid of our landline like 2 years ago (we all have our own cells) but the phone company told my mom if she went with some other plan they offer it would be $10 a month basic everything no call waiting or some other stuff. we never had caller id ever so no biggie. My grandma and a few relatives are the only ones who ever call. I thought about the digital phone but I've read there are some drawbacks to that when things are idle for awhile like when you sleep. so for emergencies I don't think I would want that >.<</p> 28
If you've ever been in a situation where cell towers are down - like the big blackout in Southern Ontario and parts of the Northern US in 2003, then you'll understand why I like having a landline. There are always going to be instances when cell service isn't available and having a landline that works without electricity is very important. I'll always have a landline.
i only have a landline because its required by my alarm system company. it has basic service and i only pay like 20 bucks a month for it. I only use it if im desperate, or using it to call my cell phone to see where i left it lol.
i am thinking about getting my landline back because my stupid cell phone refuses to charge like it's supposed to. maybe upgrading to an iphone will change my mind!
we only really have a landline for our internet connection.
Got rid of my landline YEARS ago!
Yes. We too had to get a landline in order to get internet connection. But we do use it - I can always hear that phone where I never seem to be able to hear my cell phone!
We don't have good cell access in my area of town - if you go to the top of the driveway and face east you can usually get a fair signal. So yes, a land line is imperative. I don't know anyone who doesn't have a landline.
And, no, I don't live in the boonies, but in Southwestern CT.
I have a landline - I only have a pay as you go cell for emergencies (I hardly ever use it).
we have a landline, no cell phones. dont need one.
Haven't had a land line in 3 years, and don't really need it. If somebody can't get a hold of me they can always call my husband's phone.
I only use it for 911 - so the cops know where to come when I'm calling for help
OMG, my parents got rid of their landline last month. It freaked me out a bit!
I still have mine but only until the end of the month, haha.
Landline, but the Voice Over IP kind. Cell phones are fine, but when I have to call out of country the cost really adds up. VoIP is free to call to Canada. And my cell phone is too uncomfortable to talk on for a long period of time.
I got rid of my landline when I moved to the city, and have always been happy about it.
However, now that they have Voice-over-IP for cell phones, I might consider getting a package that would give me both.
I have digital phone and I use it to call overseas - I love their unlimited international calling plan:)
My parents have one, but I don't use it when I'm home. I plan on just using my cell phone when I get my apartment to. I always have it with me, and if it's not on "ring" it's on "vibrate" and I always check it.
I canceled my land line several years ago, but was recently forced to get one again for two reasons.
1) My favorite local restaraunt has started to refuse home delivery to customers who don't have land lines because of all the pranks they have been victimized with.
2) My pay per view with the local cable company needs a two way line in order to use instant ordering from the cable box.
So, even though these two reasons are convenience based, it is worth the $14.95 I pay for a land line per month. But, I do not answer any calls on the land line and I do not give out the number. Unless I ordered food, I know its a wrong number if that phone rings.
We have a landline for a ocuple of reasons. Cell signal isn't always that great and is super unpredictable so in case of an emergency I feel better knowing that I can still call out. Also and this is so shameful we still have dial up internet so we have to have the phone line. Plus with all the bundles available with satellite internet and phone service it's not all that expensive
I haven't had a landline in years. When I canceled my service, I got an Evoice (internet voicemail) account. That's the number I give out to avoid unsolicited calls on my cell.
We have a landline for our alarm system and TiVo and it used to be for our fax but now I use an online fax system...plus we have several homes so this way I always have the same phone numbers.
we have a landline to buzz people in and call cabs.
