With season seven of American Idol wrapping up last week (congrats David Cook!), I was completely shocked that a whopping 97 million votes were cast last Tuesday night. From that 97 million, a record-breaking 78 million were generated from text messages through votes, trivia contests, and other SMS content.
When AT&T polled 416 users about their texting and Idol habits, 51 percent said they text more frequently during the Idol season than other times, while 22 percent said they first learned how to text by voting for singers. Although I was totally obsessed with Idol this season, I have to admit that I . . . didn't vote! I know, I know, such an Idol hypocrite. Next season, I promise. What about you? Were you one of the 78 million who sent a vote via text?

I didn't vote at all because I'm outside USA but if I were American i would have used text messages to vote [for DC of course

1I usually called, but I did text one night.
2I don't vote. I hardly watch the show, but sometimes I keep it on in the background. I usually don't know the contestants enough to have an opinion
3Nope, I don't have AT&T. I have T MObile. I don't usually vote by phone anyway for stuff.
4I texted once about 2 seasons ago. I never did it again because they thought it would be ok to text me back spam. Not cool.
5Sorry. I'm over it. But if I wasn't, I would have texted by vote.
6I rarely watch the show. In fact, I didn't watch any of AI last season. I might have caught 5 minutes of an audition episode but that was about it. Therefore, I did not use text messages to send AI votes. My texting plan is limited as it is... I'm not about to waste texts like that. But in general, no I do not use text messages to send votes for contestants on any TV show that I watch.
7never watch it. Well ok, I watch the auditions because it really is the best part. Everything after that is over rated and over played
