GameStop has announced that it will stop carrying Microsoft's Zune because of shabby sales — a blow to the heart of the device that was hoped would be a worthy opponent to Apple's iPod. I feel a tiny bit for the little guy, who's an underdog fighting the good fight of consumer competition.

But in my own personal microcosm, I don't actually know anyone who owns or has owned the Zune, while I have had many iPods (and my iPhone) and most of my friends have also owned multiple iPods. I struggle to even think if I know anyone with a non-iPod. But I want to know — do any of you own an MP3 player that Apple didn't make?

It's so weird that most people have only Ipods in the U.S. I have had a non-ipod for a while.
1I have a Zune. I can't stand IPod. I do have to say that I'm not terribly impressed with the selection at the Zune Marketplace and every purchase has been a debacle that ended with me hanging up on customer service because I was waiting for the fourth time to get transfered to the next "level" of customer service. Once I get things on the device it's great but Zune Marketplace and customer service for said marketplace is enough to make me sorry I bought it.
2Yes, I own iRiver and Samsung. I love Samsung mp3 products!
3I do...just never use it.
4We own many IPods in this house and I'd never buy a non-Apple mp3.
5I have a sony walkman. I had the bean before, but I dropped it. And yes, I have it working with my mac!
Although I'm a mac girl, I really don't like iPods...
6ONLY iPods baby! I mean, how can it get any easier? Great selection easy to use. I've never had a problem and even if your ipod fails you, you have the apple store to take it to where people can fix it on the spot and if they can't you get a new one. I LOVE it!
7I've only owned one iPod, the 80GB 5th gen one I still have. My sister, mom and dad all have non-iPods but their non-iPods suck really bad. I don't know, I can't see myself switching to a non-iPod anytime soon.
8I like Apple in general, but I hate hate hate iTunes and couldn't justify the ridiculous price tag on an iPod. I have a Sansa player, and it works great and has fantastic tech support.
9iPods break so easily and are obsolete within a year. I had a Creative Zen for years which I *loved* and bought a Zune (and another Zen for my husband) and I wouldn't give it up for anything.
The Marketplace for Zune does suck but I wouldn't buy music online from anywhere but Amazon anyway.
10I have a mini, a nano, a shuffle, and we have 2 iphones....have yet to have one break yet so not sure where you find that they break so easily Lizrocks!
I love my ipods and apple products...I'm such a mac user:)
11i would like to own an ipod, but music is enough for me, i do not need the whole pics, videos abilities.
12I started with the pink iPod mini and from there traded up to the video ipod. Of course I also own the new ipod nano and my iphone. I think its safe to say I won't be upgrading anytime soon since my ipods are all in working order.
13I've had a first generation iPod then I got a mini then a Photo then I got the video and now I've got a classic, I'm just waiting for the 3G iPhone to come out.
The main reason why I get iPods is because one, my dad's a huge fan and two, the interface is the the one to beat. My cousin has a Nokia music phone and just to get to the library is a hassle and to top it all off, when you select a song, the player hangs for maybe a minute. I've never, ever gotten that with any iPod.
14I'm ipod all the way but I do see what Lizrocks is saying.
15First, even if yours doesn't break it is obsolete because they come out with the next newer, nicer generation so quickly.
Second, as much as I LOVE Apple and my macbook they don't stand behind their ipods. If they break after the warranty (I think a year) then they pretty much expect you to get a new one and will not fix the old (for anything less then an astronomical price). I've heard many horror stories about this. But still, I would never go any other way, I love Apple.
i absolutely hate itunes and having to "sync" iproducts with my computers, so i have a samsung mp3 player that's tiny and works great. i like that you can just hook it up and drag and drop what you want into a folder.
16i'm still using my three year old 20gig ipod but am upgrading this summer to the classic. i love ipods and doubt i'd get a different brand of mp3 players. i just prefer itunes over windows media and the others so i'll probably just stick with them. to be fair though my sister had an ipod, it broke, and she bought a zune and love love loves it so it does have it's fans.
17i have a creative zen and love it. i would consider getting an ipod, but i totally HATE macs.
18I've never owned an iPod. I have a little samsung mp3 player which is good enough for me. I actually use it a lot less than I thought I would when I decided to purchase an mp3 player.
19I love my Creative Zen!
20i have a zune, and love it.
21steve jobs is the devil
I've never had an iPod. They're so overrated. It's non-iPod mp3 players all the way for me.
22Only Ipods; Love it! Personally, I do not understand why people hate ipods and the iTunes store; it is so easy to use.
23Also the iPod I own is a 30GB White Video Ipod ( I believe they call it the "Classic" now.)
My first iPod was in Dec 2004; it was a Lime Green 4GB iPod Mini (which you barely hear of now; Apple doesn't even list it on the website, lol.)
24sony baby
25yeah i do not own an ipod but my phone comes with mp3 so i don't really feel the need to get one... and yes i do know a lot of people who do not own one and they're young so i guess some people just don't like it
26i have a creative zen and i love it. i would use an ipod if it was given to me but as it is i'm content with my little zen.
27i have a creative zen and i love it. i would use an ipod if it was given to me but as it is i'm content with my little zen.
28Nothing but iPods for me, I have two right now and am probably getting an 80GB one soon.
29I love my 80g Zune(I named it Shikamaru, its way awesome. My dad owns an iPod classic and he always asks me to trade, he always has technical problems with it. Zune? No problems at all.
30I have a Creative Zen that works great and cost way less than any Apple product. My kids both have Sandisk players, which are dependable and easy to use. I see no reason to buy into the hype.
31i only rock the pod
32i don't have an mp3...
33I just upgraded to an LG EnV a few months ago with a 2G card...I'm all about streamlining the devices LOL...
34I have a 30g video ipod that's about a year and a half old (which replaced an ipod mini), and my husband has a 60g video ipod that's probably close to 3 yrs old, and we love them. They still work great and even though there are new models, we plan on hanging onto these until they die.
He also has a shuffle, and I bought a shuffle knockoff from ebay for super cheap...I lost it, though, so I'm just going to go to the Apple store and buy a new one (now that
they're so cheap!).
35I don't have an mp3 player. I mainly listen to music on my computer.
36iPods for me ❤
37Yes! And I'm very proud of it. I just wanna be different.
38I have a Creative Zen.
39I have a samsung that is smaller than the ipod shuffle with a small display and a clip for when I go to the gym. I have had it for at least 4 years now and will probably cry when it dies since I don't see anything on the market as nice.
40I had a Creative Zen Micro and now I have a Samsung P2.
Creative players are super easy to use and have nice tactile buttons. I was really torn on buying a second one but the P2 won out. I gave my old one to a friend, and it still works great.
The P2 is sort of like a poor man's iPod Touch. No internet capabilities, but the sound and video quality is amazing, and it has a radio (and you can record radio to MP3), a text reader, a calculator, and a couple of games. It even connects to Bluetooth phones, and you can transfer files over Bluetooth. I've heard they're going to add voice recording capability to it, too, through a firmware update. If it had some more PDA-ish capabilities it's be perfect.
If I had to pick a backup player, it'd be a Sansa Clip.
41I've got a Sony Walkman and I liked it so much I bought my boyfriend one for Valentine's day. He's had no complaints.
42I have an old Sansa but never use it. I doubt I'd use an iPod any more often. I have having those earbuds stuck in my ears.
43I meant I hate those earbuds in my ears.
44The only laptop I've had that actually worked for more than 6 months was a Mac. And the iPod was free when I bought my Mac (big plus!), so I've taken a keen liking to them.
Also I think the only MP3 players that work with Macs ARE iPods... naturally I've stuck with them. I've only just bought my second one, after my first free one of nearly 3 years finally gave out.
But you're right, I don't know anyone who's got a different MP3 player. Either they own an iPod or iPhone - or they don't have a MP3 player at all!
45I've been using iPods since my 3rd generation 10GB model I got for Christmas 2003. I upgraded to the 30GB video three years later because I'd simply outgrown the hard drive space, it still worked great! Also, I drive a Scion, so my car is iPod ready (it comes with an auxiliary jack for other devices but one of the selling point for me was the fact that when I plug in my iPod, I can control it from my stereo/steering wheel and keep my eyes on the road. So I'm thinking of upgrading a couple of gadgets next year but I will definitely stick with iPod.
But I just can't decide whether or not to get an iPod touch and a Blackberry OR an iPod classic and an iPhone (I figure no one needs an iPod touch AND an iPhone).
46Wow. The results of the poll are a little sad.
My main MP3 player is my 1st generation iPod Nano. My backup player is a tiny light purple cube thing that's some Korean brand. JNC, je crois.
I want a new MP3 plater but...nyaa. Dun wanna waste money and I'm still attached to my crappy old ones.
47i HATE ipods with a passion! there are way better ones out there. people just don't know because all they know are damn ipods > <</p> 48
i have an iriver clix. it's awesome!
49I have neither. I still use a CD player. I am behind.
