As much as I alternately love and loathe new reality shows, I didn't want to get into MTV's The Paper. But after one episode, I was powerless — not only is the show itself well-produced, edited, and so entertaining, I can't help but empathize with the newspaper geeks because I was one in high school too!

But, times are no longer like my high school days — the MTV class has a room full of eMacs, and the students have the hottest phones. Plucky yet beleaguered editor-in-chief Amanda Lorber started the school year with a nose job and a new iPhone (and my heart broke a little for her when her date texted his way out of Homecoming).
It warms my old journalism heart to see the kids sitting at their monitors, slaving over stories, and wordsmithing their ways to their future. I just know these nerds are going to be my future colleagues, so keep on geekin' on, Paper kids!

Untold
i also am a huge fan of the paper geeksugar! i was on the yearbook staff (and majored in magazine journalism in college) but it was just as competitive and hectic! i love these kids and never miss an episode. i feel a quiz coming on!
1These kids are so cutthroat! I can not help but tune in. I agree with GeekSugar about the dumping via text - harsh.
2I must admit I find myself watching the Paper, but who else is annoyed by Trevor. He seems to be an antagonist to Amanda with no rhyme or reason. I understand his girlfriend wanted to be EIC but she didn't get it so get over it!
3I majored in Journalism in college and I know exactly the drama that goes on in a newspaper room!
4This show is good. The kids need to stop picking on Amanda though.
5i would like to share that Cypress Bay highschool was one of my neighboring high schools, and two of my best friends went there, both of their younger siblings are both juniors there right now. the show is totally fake - amanda is a girl who is just trying to become an actress, and i know from personally speaking with another member of the show (i won't mention his name) that it is totally scripted, and they were even paid $200 an episode. ps - that whole "breakup" -- TOTALLY 100% set up by MTV.
6sorry to burst your bubble, but i just thought i would let the truth be told!
Only seen a couple episodes and didn't like it much. Maybe cause I have a deep hate for Cypress Bay from my high school years. I dunno
7Wow way to burst my bubble danizzle. Well I guess one would be hard pressed to find a reality show that isn't scripted.
8That text is rough!
9Aw, danizzle, you're breaking my heart! Oh well, I play along with The Hills, might as well do it for The Paper too
.
10Seriously geeksugar, I'm with you! I like to pretend that everything on the Hills is factual and not a result of multiple takes, so I guess I'll have to expand it to the Paper.
11Awwwe...i have only seen a couple of episodes but really liked it because it looked "real"...haha...i guess not anymore! But like geeksugar said, i play along with The Hills...might as well...
12I am so addicted to this show. It's so good!
13It's fake? Awwww...I hate feality (fake reality) t.v. on principal. But, can I give this one up too?
14i didn't think i'd be interested in this show but after a couple episodes, i'm hooked! i think i'm quickly moving out of mtv's age demographic...or its getting depressing to see high school life. i'm jealous...
15wish i had mtv.
i was on my high school yearbook (that is where i met my best friend/roommie
of 10 years!), but we didn't have a paper. i should start submitting stuff for one of the univ. papers.
16Who cares if its fake its fun. Also good for them for getting paid something. Mtv is going to make money off of them they should at least get something
17in hs i was a journalism geek but I couldn't get into The Paper. :\
18You know what I would feel better if it were fake because they are SO MEAN to Amanda--I mean I hope (if it were real) that when they watched it they would be ashamed of how they treated her! But it does entertain me!
19wow if she wants to be an actress, she's gonna end up being more like Paris Hilton because she is HORRIBLE at acting.
20Augh I really don't like this show. I tutor high school students that are much more mature and level headed than these spoiled kids. Come Amanda is annoying and its apparent she is acting (badly none the less) and also another bad example for young girls. Really how old is she to get a nose job. I love the hills but with this show I am not giving them another minute of my time.
21I'm sorry, but I can't feel sorry for Amanda. She irks me. I know there are some times when they should be nicer to her, but she's pretty good at standing her ground and ostracizing herself.
