Greenpeace recently did a study on gaming consoles and found that the level of toxic chemicals used to manufacture them were higher than what's allowed in children's toys.
The study was conducted on a PlayStation 3, an Xbox 360 and a Wii, all bought in Europe (where they don't classify game consoles as toys). All consoles were guilty of containing toxics like Phthalates, bromium, and PVC — which pose a threat to both the environment and sexual development in humans. Who's a little creeped out?
When I have a choice, I do try to seek out electronics that are greener, in general, like the Energy Star designation for appliances. I'm stoked that my MacBook Pro is mercury-free, and it definitely disappoints me to see my favorite brands ranking low on Greenpeace's greener electronics guide. How about you? Do you worry about the eco-ness of your gadgets too?

To be honest, I don't.
1I haven't either. But that's definitely some food for thought.

Good thing I don't gnaw on my keyboard the same way a toddler chews on their toys.
3i try to be green in my everyday life and hope the drop in my carbon imprint is large enough to offset my gadgets that don't quite make it. but i will recycle everything this upgrade go around!
4wow i never really thought about it like that! i know that i shouldn't leave my computer on standbye and all of that but i never thought about chemicals....
5No I don't but my mom does and keeps reminding me too
6i am concerned, and know that by seeking out quality products that will last a long time and perform multiple functions or be used a lot, i'll not have to replace them anytime soon - which is very green. i also look for the energy star rating for things like tvs and appliances...also my external monitor
7The thing is, I've had, and kept all my gaming consoles and games for YEARS. I still play them on occasion. I don't have any of the toys that I had when I was a kid (maybe a teddy bear). They're no doubt in some landfill somewhere
8I just start charging all my devices with a solar charger and I've hooked up our electronic to a green switch. Oh, and I'm now recycling old tech (thanks to a tip from GeekSugar!) So I guess I don't buy green devices, but I'm trying to change the way I use them to make them greener.
9I really should, but I don't take green into consideration for my electronics. However, I actively recycle, take public transportation/carpool, and conserve energy as much as possible. I figure it balances out, at least a little bit
